Japanese fans are loving the 'Chainsaw Man Season 1 Compilation Movie' which removed all the slow moments, changed the OSTs, and re-recorded a lot of voice acting in much higher voice/tone.

Mappa released a new Chainsaw Man Season 1 compilations movie to promote the upcoming Reze movie, but it wasn't just compilation. It was directed by the movie director and he pretty much addressed all the issues Japanese fans had with season 1 and the response is extremely positive.

Changes that I noticed/read about from Japanese comments -

a lot of lines were rerecorded with much higher voice so now it doesn't sound muffled (at least what the Japanese are saying)
They changed many lines to make to it exactly the same as Manga. Like Denji's line "don't get in my way" changed to "don't get in our way" which was what it was in the Manga.
The tempo of all fights is increased drastically where they pretty much removed all "slow" moments like Denji looking around or standing still. For example just look at this scene where Denji pulls his cord for the first time, they added those zombie running cuts in between him pulling his cord so it feels a lot more frantic.
All slow moments like Aki's morning routine are entirely cut out (ironic since that Ep was directed by the same dude who's doing the movie now)
Pretty much all osts that played during major fights are changed, even during scenes where there was no ost they added bombastic/hype osts
The OP kick back plays in the final battle between Denji and katana man
They showed the number of casualties the gun devil caused which was in the Manga but s1 didn't have it
a lot of VA work is much more in high energy compared to the low realistic VA work season 1 had
They even removed the anime original talk Denji had on top of train with Katana man in final ep, now there is no pause, they just start fighting.
These Japanese YT videos got 200K+ views talking about this and pretty much all comments loved this new version. This one as well.

Personally, I think you guys got 100 points for changing the "If you're getting in my way, Die!" in the first episode to "If you're getting in our way, Die!" (2200+ likes)
The grudge I held at the TV anime version after the line "If you're going to get in our way... then die!" looks like it's finally been cleared away. (300 likes)
I feel that they are doing everything they can to clean up the mess made by the previous director and get closer to the original work, and that it shows love (934 likes)
In the scene where Denji is singing passionately while tapping on the bathtub and Aki tells him, "You're taking too long in the bath!", Denji's singing voice has been changed to sound 10 times more annoying and loud, which made me laugh. It's soo much better than previous scene i can't believe it. (453 likes)
I'm glad that the industry has heard the voices of dissatisfied fans of the original work, recognized that corrections were needed, and made precise changes to the areas that needed fixing. The first season was already made into an anime, so I thought they'd have to give up on that part, but I was surprised to find out that they could make corrections in the compilation. (1200+ likes)
To begin with, there's no way a director who hates anime could make a good anime. Thanks for the compilation. (609 likes)
It's great that so many of the changes, which completely changed the meaning, were corrected... Why couldn't this have been done from the beginning? I wish the director of the film had made it from the beginning... (1200+ likes)
The quality of the images was originally on par with that of a movie, if only they had managed to capture the feel of the original, it would have been a great anime. (902 likes)
To be honest, there were a lot of voices saying they wanted the first season to be remade, and I was one of those people who wanted to see it if possible, so I'm very happy to be able to see the complete version in this form. (200 likes)
the compilation is available Crunchyroll or it's even available on YouTube for free here. They also have these new funny shorts that they animated adapting the short stories at the end of every Manga volume.

It indeed felt better to watch than the TV series. I'm glad the Japanese audience noticed and shared many kind words for the people who worked on it.

I enjoyed the TV series, don't get me wrong, but this compilation movie (or movies, since there were two, telling different portions of the story) not only felt more dynamic (as expected from a compilation movie, haha), but also more organic, natural, and smoother. Not a lot of content was cut compared to many other recap movies, and the whole project presented a really well-done recap experience.

Thanks for sharing this info.

I wasn't in a hurry to watch this (I would have waited until right before the new movie), but you got me curious.

The faster pacing without feeling rushed (only 25% of the first season was cut) make me recommend these recaps not only to who is planning to rewatch the first season before the Reze movie but also to anyone who never watched it, if they think they might prefer a version of the story with the very same plot but faster pacing.

As someone who loved S1, I never understood all the bitching with the Japanese fans regarding the adaptation. S1 was amazing IMHO, but if this Compilation Movie stops the bitching from the Japanese fans, then I'm cool with it.

Im actually curious to watch this now.

The crashout of S1 apologists is utterly insane. I have seen many straight up racist comments.

It is for Madoka alone." - Homura
or how I would describe Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica.

As someone who enjoyed Season 1 but still found it somewhat bland especially compared to the manga, Im curious whether this compilation movie might change my opinion? Hahaha xD Time to watch.
