Those islanders really are so outspoken...

I wasn't interested in all that drama but the jailer woman that appeared had my interest. Too bad this is the season finale.

Interesting anime but the island arc is too long. And why am I not surprised for a bit to know that Mogura is kind of a big deal character.

And so we end with finishing the merfolk incident and learning about Mogura's origins.

I gotta say, this series was the surprise hit of the season for me. I loved the overall vibes this one was giving off. The character designs were unique and interactions were wonderfully mundane and realistic, but set in a supernatural setting. Mogura himself was one of the most likable protagonists I've seen in quite a long time. The subs called him affable in this finale, and it's a good way to put it. I'm not surprised this has such a low score and viewership number, it's decidedly un-flashy and easy to overlook, but it is unfortunate. I'm giving this a strong 8/10 as one of my favorites of the season, and I watched around 30 shows this season! I'd absolutely love to spend more time with these characters and see what comes next, but I don't think it's gonna happen if I had to guess. Ah well.

The show was better, when it was episodic. Last arc was too long too boring. 5/10.

Well now I have more questions. The series focused on perspectives and on how things are perceived made the supernatural aspects interesting and Mogura's true nature certainly adds to that.

The island’s « royal family » got away lightly for what they did. Although I could understand why the old lady turned like that. And Yaeko’s « gift » to Yui was some petty revenge I did not expect from her.

So Mogura is a fallen God, which I more or less expected, although we still don’t know what he did. Does his name means anything in particular or refers to some specific Japanese legend ?

I rather enjoyed that show. It had a nice artstyle, some dry sense of humour, and interesting characters. Too bad the original manga is probably too obscure to ever get translated.

Another masterpiece this season, an interesting plot, engaging characters, and meaningful humor. The last arc, though long, was engaging, and the final mini-arc is a masterpiece, revealing who Mogura and Ukigumo are, and there's also the magnificent Kyoko, a wonderful wife. Chances are slim, but I really, really, really want a second season.

Overall, good show. I thought it was pretty interesting with a likable cast. Definitely doesn't deserve the score it has, but people on mal are notorious for bad taste, so scores don't matter anyway. Would enjoy a s2 I think, they can have plenty of interesting little stories and stuff while continuing to unravel a main narrative.

Wow, Ukigumo the jailer lady - not only best girl, but also best character.

What a fantastic show this was. Eguchi Natsumi is such a terrific mangaka. Hoozuki got a number of seasons so I hope and pray this will get more too.

@ShiroAlex It has high ratings in Japan, so there is a good chance of a second season. I would love to watch it and learn something new from the Kojiki myths, and I'm also curious to find out what the peach god did wrong.

@evs38 I'm glad to hear that it's popular, but still, the god of peaches, I think he's Ookamuzumi-no-Mikoto, but in the series he's called Okamuzumi-no-yumi, I could be wrong.

The most important thing about the chapter wasn't ending the brainwashing, it was that she was able to find underwear XD

The last few minutes had more lore than the entire season XD.Here we can apply a concept that is said in my country, whether there is violence or not: One hit to make him talk, a thousand to make him shut up XD

So he is actually a FORMER god? Now that twist I didn't actually see coming. I do agree that this Island business dragged on a bit too long, but otherwise a pretty good show that was somewhat overlooked around my parts.

@UtakaSenpai I think it's available in English, but you'd be right it's obscure, the K Manga service from Kodansha USA is still relatively new and they only added EArthbound Mole in June of this year, so it'll take some time to catch up, not unlike Viz amping up translations and now bumping the subscription price to about $4 from initially $2 only about 2-3 years ago. But I feel like the sheer amount of series in their vault, plus access on the website to archived chapters for 18+ series makes it relatively worth it

Mogura going around as a monk with the lantern feels like in ye olde Japan they would still not think it nearly as weird as these days. But most monks in fiction tend to be either walking with the shakkujo or the komuso style, among a few other variants. Does make for a cool character concept

That reveal about Mogura
. It also gives an idea of how old Mogura is, since that was Warring States period, he'd be just over 500 years old or just under. Yaeko's great grandfather even in his old age would seem pretty young to Mogura.

@ShiroAlex yes, there are many questions about how a peach became an bow. Perhaps the bow is made from a peach tree to ward off spirits.

@evs38 Yep, without more detailed background it’s hard to say, but I had an idea that this was a collective image of several gods, and not based on one, but this is only a version, and so there are more questions than answers.

The characters made this series for me. Sure the youkai interactions kept it moving, but every interaction had a charm and wit I don't feel often. I'm not shocked this isn't all that popular, but it's one of my top shows of the season.

And so the anime ended up adapting the first four volumes (plus the first chapter of volume five) of the manga.

Fingers crossed for a second season.

Dunno why I don't enjoy this like the author's other work Hozuki.

Mogura's leg is really strong to go up the hill with bicycle along with motorcycle lol.
His skill with bow is also really good, scraping someone from far away is no small feat.

Overall just decent.

Overall a fantastic show with a lovely and colorful art style, but I'm still miffed that the mobster/murder family didn't get any punishment whatsoever.

And the ending was interesting; I hope we get a season two!

i really liked the show. nice insight into japanese folklore. i know it was a special part ofogura, just his voice was super flat even when he was screaming. but at the end he had his time to really shine. will somehow miss it.

That was a pretty good show. I can see where it might be frustrating watching it one week at a time instead of stacking them all up and watching them one after another.
