I’ve just seen this in the cinema and going I in knew it used rotoscope, 2d and 3D animation for backgrounds. It seemed to used a lot more rotoscope than I thought. I have no complaints, this is just an observation and I found it very interesting visually!

So, I wondered if anyone knows or if it has been said anywhere just how much of the animation was done using rotoscope?? It seemed the majority but I could be wrong?

Also would be interested to hear other people’s thoughts on the animation in general:)

Not sure about how much rotoscoping was done, but there’s a bunch of awesome analysis videos online that might help. I didn’t really start to notice the rotoscoping until later in the movie, and I only saw it once so I’d probably have to watch it again.

I personally found the rotoscoping to be a little bit jarring when I first noticed it, like in terms of how smooth it was, but honestly it didn’t bother me that much. I was just really really happy with how beautiful it turned out. 😄

From what I saw the last time I watched the movie. Tends toward the "nuances" (maybe correct me if I am wrong) such as (small body gestures, several warm ups, and running) from my naked observation.

Discourse for this, is it bad or good?

For me personally I don't mind the rotoscoped animation, it gives it bizarre realism? to the animation and I quite liked it. For the bad side, of course (maybe) there's an impression of an easy way out for the animation sectors. But nevertheless, I am enjoying the movie overall.

Cheers!

I know what you mean about it being jarring. I found it very noticeable. It actually made me a bit motion sick! I really liked some scenes and others didn’t work so well. It was certainly interesting though!
Thanks for the heads up on the video analysis I’ll check some out :)

I don’t know if I liked it or not tbh. It certainly was a unique visual experience.

It actually didn’t cross my mind that this could potentially be a ‘way out’ for animation sectors! This is a super interesting point and something I will think more about and will definitely come into my mind when I watch another film using rotoscope.
