So I haven’t watched Sakamoto Days yet or read the manga, but I keep seeing people online saying the anime “isn’t as good” or “doesn’t do the manga justice.” Some even sound kinda ungrateful considering we actually got an adaptation at all.

I’m just curious — why are people saying this?
Is it animation quality, pacing, missing details, or what exactly makes them feel this way? Are fans maybe overexaggerating?

Not trying to start drama, I just want to understand where all these opinions are coming from.

I’ve really enjoyed it. What I saw most people parrot was “animation quality” especially with fights. But I didn’t ever find the animation to be poor at all, and especially with OPM s3 and that whole fiasco right now, people complaining ad nauseam about that seems even more laughable in retrospect

I’m not gonna pretend like I read the manga so my opinion might not be super helpful.

But personally based off what I heard from others initially I think not many people liked the art style they used for the anime and complained about the animation being subpar.

If I’m being completely honest I think people are tweaking personally, sure it’s nothing special but I think the animation was fine.

Idk how it compares to the manga adaptation wise though. But personally I saw no glaring issues if their was animation issues it was too small for me to notice

It's all due to the animation. Specially Cour 1. It's not bad but it's just above average. And cour 2 can be classified as decent -good. Just nowhere near good enough considering the manga is known for its peak fight choreography. Plus, if u compare it with most high profile shows in the last 5 years, it'll feel really underwhelming.

Let me break it down for you: I'm a Sakamoto Days fan; I really like the series. But I cannot give the manga anything more than an 8/10 because it's by no means an outstanding series. It's fun though.

I haven't really seen much glaze for the series, which is usually what people do when an anime releases. And part 1 was a hit or miss sometimes with the animation, on top of having a slow start and some slow episodes. It is a leading action shonen series, so many expected it to have animation comparable to the top dogs of the genre.

HOWEVER the part 2 anime is where everything changed. I did give it a 9 because it brought to life exactly what this series is, wacky action and people getting beatup with random stuff. If you do watch it and aren't feeling part 1, skip it and start part 2. Part 2 lives up to the hype imo, but remember it's still an average to slightly above average story

Don't know anything about the manga, but the two anime seasons were rock solid.

^ HOLY SHIT I AGREE WITH THIS PERSON!
Never happened before, probably never will again, just felt like celebrating.
It was just the target for the community haters who get off on trying to influence the scores with a wave of negative overreaction. There’s one every season, but they never achieve a thing long term.

Very true. And being negative and pedantic doesn’t elevate anyone’s opinion above someone else’s, yet many around here seem to be of the mindset that it somehow makes their opining more important

I never said that at all. I just meant that the negativity surrounding the adaptation is justified. If u guys loved the anime, that's perfectly fine.

Any anime will have negative opinions about it, the usual. Only you should decide what is good or not for you by watching, which is all that matters

I found the animation to be fine. it's not amazing like jjk or demon slayer level obviously but it's still fun to watch.

Everyone else here is hugely underselling the animation side of things. The animation the whole way through was fantastic; anyone sooking about it is the highest level of spoiled anime fan who has only seen opm s1, Fate, and demon slayer. Dunno how it compares to the manga though lol. But again animation is flawless. Yes there’s better animation, but it’s still near top level.

I didn't read the manga but I think Sakamoto Days anime sucks. It's just a Gintama ripoff that's worse in every way.

I really cant understand how its a Gintama rip off? Totally different premise and characters. Id be curious to see how you compare the two.

As for Sakamoto Days, I thought it followed the Manga really well and the animation fit the Manga design. Yes the first cour was a little slow, but it takes time to build a story.

@chellekitten In both, the main character is a vaguely white-haired former prestiged killer who turns a new leaf as a pacifist, running a run-down business, voiced by Sugita. He has two sidekicks; one the generic/self-insert character known as Shin or something, the other is the tomboyish, red-headed China girl in a China outfit with a dialect typical of Chinese immigrants. The trio serve as the focal point of an action-comedy story.

To be fair, Sakamoto fell in love and started a family and changed his ways. Part of the fun is that he is no longer allowed to kill, so he comes up with creative ways to incompacitate charachters. Shinpachi and Shin have very different personalities. Kagura isnt Chinese, shes an alien (with what id say is orange not red hair but im nitpicking now). Gintama is very episodic and more comedic with some storyline, Sakamoto is more story driven.
Ive seen both. I love Gintama and I love Sakamoto Days. I respect your opinion, but you've got to see there are some key differences. If you dont like it thats fine, but calling it a rip off seems extreme.

Yeah it’s fine. If you haven’t read the manga then you’ll have no expectations going in and i’m sure you’ll find it fine too. I really enjoy sakamoto says.
