I know this is a light novel adaption, but this season feels like it is really just characters talking back and forth (currently only 5 episodes in). It's not a bad thing, and obviously there was some good action in season one. But I feel this is a slower burn than I thought it would be. Re:Zero just hasn't really grabbed me yet, if you really enjoy it, I'd love to hear why.

This season is a slowburn and it does pick up. I do think part 2 of season 2 is more engaging though
The right mindset when watching an anime is hoping that it will break your top 10

In season 2 there is a lot of talking, with a good bit more action in the second half. Season 3 is a LOT of action though, so look forward to that.

Season 2's talking is truly mind numbingly hard to watch, but the payoff in season 3 is worth it in my opinion.

S2 was a much longer arc than season 1 which does come off even slower because of the difference. It will pick up and have exciting moments later on as well but for me the seasons go:

S1>>S3>S2 Part 1>S2 Part 2

I will note that that the show never dropped below an 8 for me either.

I was about to write an essay on why a calm before season thingy is important + Season 3 has the action + I feel conversations are better than fight scenes in writing, Part 2 of this season picks up, Hope u enjoy, bro!!!

ill admit this season has a lot of dialog and I could see why some people might see it as a slow burn.
I also think as a result it has a lot more important info in a smaller amount of time.

It reminds me of Vinland Saga's slow burn. Where people got turned off from it's slow "farming simulator" start in its first cour but all the story threads come back to play in its second cour towards its climax where it starts becoming unfathomably peak. I mean it's just more of what you expect of rezero and you start getting backstories of all the characters that you were introduced to in s1 and new ones. S2 part 2 is still my favorite from all of re:zero we'll see if s4 gets me to change my mind.

One thing I liked from this cour though is that it takes a look at Subaru's parents where other isekais never really touch on the family situation of the main character other than gloss over it.

Thanks for all the info and encouragement. Yeah, it’s not that I don’t like dialogue heavy shows, that can be great, but something about this arc feels really convoluted to me. I’ll keep at it in hopes it can grab me.

You might be right, that is what I felt when I first watched this season. But when I re-watched it for the second time to keep up with the 3rd season, I thought this season is great. So many great scenes are coming up, just be patient. You might feel like it is an endless loop, but this is what the author wants you to experience 👌🏼😁 and you will know later

All animes are talking lol, if you don't like them talking to build world building or development better characters then go watch Tom and Jerry or Mr Bean

Can't say I agree with you, I get that the Sanctuary Arc is dialogue heavy but even the parts where they are "just talking" are fun to watch. I have watched and rewatched S1 to S3 plenty of times now and it still hits like the first time.

I know right haha

Season 1 Episode 18 - the most well known controversial episode in modern anime that kicked off the fandom waifu wars, and the most emotional payoff episode of the season:

85-90% of the episode was dialogue between two characters in one setting standing on a rooftop talking about their feelings.

Because it has a great story and a lot of plot twists, not to mention the big lore behind the world. It’s a story driven anime so yeah it’s mainly talking, tho there is a lot of action too in s3

The novel itself is 90% dialogues. Not very surprising that the adaptation has a similar structure.

I hated this part particularly because of the talking. It’s been awhile since I watched, so I don’t remember all the details, but I wrote a review at the time blasting it if you wanted to read a take like that.

Thanks again for the responses. I knew I would get some hate on this, and that’s fair. I know most anime has lots of dialogue. It just not often two characters in a room chatting, or moving from room to room having conversation after conversation. I’m on episode 9 now, and it’s kinda gaining my interest more.
