How historically accurate is this show?

I clicked on this cause I saw the Shinsegumi uniforms on the Season 2 cover and it piqued my interest.
Is this a somewhat artistic liberty depiction of historic events, or does it just hijack historical figure names to tell its own made-up story?

It’s at least accurate to the time period. I imagine the author takes liberties with the actual plot, characters, and drama. But, the story’s general timeline seems to line up with historical reality. It’s a period drama, basically.

It’s an underrated show, you should go for it if it seems interesting to you.

its to the period. its a ok anime but issue is its been done in parts in other animes with and without the historical tag. I like historical anime this is very low on the scale with my favs but dont think any historical anime is bad because of the genre tag. might be wrong but just my feelings.

There are some amount of made up stuff
- Nio and Tarou are both fictional
- Saitou Hajime isn't quite historically accurate age-wise
- the blood risshidan group in season 1 didn't exist (as far as my knowledge goes)
Just to list a few
Also curious whether they will have the Shinsengumi

Serizawa and Hirayama while they are sleeping with their lovers lol
Despite some historical inaccuracies here and there, I think this will play out like it did irl

This wont answer ur question but, i had high expectations on the anime (i wasn't expecting a battle shounnen tbh) and tbh it turned out to be just a slice of life... I hope season 2 at least has anything interesting to it
