Here we go again with another Waifu War + Promised Girl recipe! This time using "Voice" as the main ingredient.

A good start in which the premise is already set and even a confirmation that the promised girl is among them, Apollo is such a tease. The MC is cringe and way to egotistic? I'll take that over a dense one, at least Arisu is focused in his goal!

As always, I like the Tsundere-like girl at first sight– Nene, but then Rikka just feels like a best girl. Funny enough the Apollo chocolate is a combination of their hair color (totally irrelevant).

Narcissist type of MC is really enjoyable to watch. And I like the pink haired girl already.

Haven't seen the manga but it looks interesting. Let's see if it's worth the hype.

It seems they censored incredibly tame things like outfits and tummies. That’s pretty disappointing, since it doesn’t look like they’re going to respect the original material.

This is my most anticipated anime of the season!

Animation is, as expected, mediocre, but not bad. It could've been worse, but this is enough for me to enjoy, assuming the rest will be of the same quality. As a manga reader, it's a very satisfying episode.

The voices sound so good too. A lot of people (including me) thought Rikka didn't really fit the role when the first trailer dropped, but after watching the second trailer and the first episode, she sounds great. I can't say the same for Shinobu though. Itou Miku is a very talented voice actress and I don't hate her by any means, but her voice doesn't fit Shinobu's as described by Yamabuki "crystal clear". Yamabuki is perfect though. I don't want to hear anymore Sakata Shougou in a harem anime for a while lol

Yamabuki is what I call "modern harem protagonist", quite like Fuutarou in a way. He's earnest, honest, and puts in the work (unlike some guy named chitose kek) to the club. I very like his character even now in the manga.

The comedy is also on point. I like this more than the author's other series "Detective These Days".

Idk, from the sound of your post, you seem to be pretty into it, so what makes it slop exactly? I’m just curious as to why you refer to harems that way, because to me “slop” is a negative way to describe something.

In short, Mayonaka Heart Tune centers on Arisu, who is searching for the true identity of a radio announcer known as "Apollo". With some knowledge about her, he believes she attends Furin High and is likely affiliated with the broadcasting club—whether it could be one or even all four members. An intriguing premise, but unfortunately, the story suffers from cringe-worthy moments, particularly due to the shameless MC. As an anime only, I have no issues with the production, although some might say episode 1 looks rather rough. I don't understand what happens in the end, though.

A masterpiece of a premise, followed by a masterpiece of an episode. I just have two questions. First and foremost, why can’t Apollo tell Arisu who she ACTUALLY is? Second, is Apollo one girl out of the four, or the four of them? I’d appreciate assistance from readers, thank y'all in advance.

The greatest harem MC Arisu GOATbuki has arrived. No seriously, I've never liked anyone as much since Keima from TWGOK. All the girls are also very lovable and the voices are on point. The art isn't quite as beautiful as the manga, but I'm still giving this a 9 for now, really loved the 1st episode.

Been reading the manga of this for since like forever and it got an anime sheeesh. Down to see how this'll go in a different medium. So far I think the first episode is looking good, we're off to another rom-com-ish high school harem story lmao.

Arisu really doesn't get embarrassed. Just only that one moment where he responded with an "I love you" back to Apollo was an exception lmao, that's his dark past it seems. Welp, as this story goes on, we're gonna have a lot of sasuga moments.

Never ending plan to watch list...

When I found out it was harem I was disappointed. But after watching the episode I thought it wasn’t that bad. I just hope the rest of the episodes won't disappoint me.

Slop has pretty much become a catch all term these days. I've seen it being used with qualityslop, heteroslop, etc. Basically it has a negative connotation when it’s being used by itself but when it’s not, it’s usually not serious. Like most internet terms the original meaning gets lost or diluted, like simp or peak.

Understandable enough, I guess I shouldn’t assume everyone is using the word negatively since as you said, the Internet often changes the meanings of words over time. Thanks for explaining.

This will definitely be a three-episode-test show for me. While the MC is easily hateable, he's the kind that I love to hate, like Professor Lockheart in Harry Potter. I think can enjoy parts of his stupidity. On the other hand, his reticence in refusing to directly ask the girls in the club, "Hey, were you Apollo in this midnight show a few years ago?" will infuriate, so the success of the show for me will depend on whether or not his stupid antics can overcome my exasperation with his unwillingness to do things the sane, smart, and easy way.

As a longtime fan of Igarashi Masakuni and Mayonaka Heart Tune, I just have to share my disappointment with the anime, especially the first episode. The censoring of the girls' uniforms, the choppiness of the animation, and its style entirely feels cheap and unpolished. The only aspect I like is the sound design - that's it.

I hope the rest of the anime makes a turn around and it surpasses my low expectations.

I've not red the manga, so I am not tripping over the art like manga-readers are (I think it's fine). The story was what I was curious about and I have to say that despite the typical harem female leads, our male lead is different. He is a confident, eccentric weirdo that you usually see in more traditional slapstick comedies. It is interesting seeing this character type in a harem rom-com and I like it so far.

I just wish that the studios of both Mayonaka Heart Tune and Chitose kun Ramune bin no Naka got switched. Yamabuki is arrogant, yes but he is more endearing than Chitose. Plus with the four girls getting annoyed at him at this first episode, there will be plenty of moments for each female MC to develop their relationship with him. My bet for who Apollo would be is Nene. But I think my personal fave will turn out to be either Shinobu or Rikka. I'm hoping that Iko will make it competitive between the 4 of them.

Girls Ranking (ep 1):
1. Himekawa, Nene
2. Inohana, Rikka
3. Uzuki, Shinobu
4. Kirino, Iko

i think this one is going to be for the folks wearing headphones like myself. the audio is going to be key. i'm unsure if speakers are going to cut it.

this premise does vaguely tickle the grey-cells in my skull though... there's a memory brewing of some anime i've watched before this that is trying to burble to the surface. Quintessential Quintet? mmhm i think that's it... finding the one girl amongst four... but instead of four identical sisters... he's got four girls with similar voices... but instead of one day's outing during elementary school... he has multiple facts from various 'chat sessions' he and Apollo had during one year in middle school, 3 years previous to 'now'.

i wonder if he really IS some bigwig corpo family inheritance scion? of if he's blowing smoke? if he had the cash, a deep-dive net investigation by a pro might not get him what he wants... especially after 3 years... but it definitely could get him something more specific than his 'generic amateur sleuthing'.

I feel conflicted about this first episode. On the one hand, I am utterly geeked out about finally being able to watch the adaptation, yet I am a bit disappointed with how it is being adapted.

The pacing is fine, covering the first two chapters, but the general energy feels a notch lower than compared to the manga. Yamabuki is actually a bit muted here, and the gags he was involved in were shortened. Like, he was on his knees when he first met Rikka. Still, I can understand why the gags centered around Yamabuki are shortened, because said gags added a bit of fluff to what was an already solid character introduction with his speech at the start, and shifting the ending of chapter one, where Apollo starts her stream, to after Yamabuki reasserts his commitment to their promise during chapter two was in my opinion, a nice touch.

But what I don't understand is cutting out Yamabuki's interaction with Uzuki (best girl btw), before she starts the after-school broadcast. Especially since Nene's and Iko's interactions were practically unchanged (Nene's was only reordered). It leaves Uzuki with less time to solidify her character outside of her demure-ditzy appearance, and what was adapted leaves her feeling a bit more basic compared to the others, having lost a dimension to her appeal, which is really disappointing because

Still, what was left of the Uzuki interaction worked adequately. If I hadn't read the manga, I wouldn't have paid it so much mind. Besides that, production seems about average, which is all I can ask for. I really hope they don't minimize interactions like with Uzuki going forward, but I will be glued to the screen regardless.
I have read 2 perfect chapters of manga; They are Usogui Chapter 203 and Onani Master Kurosawa Chapter 23.
Slam Dunk Chapters 272 to 276 are a perfect stretch of manga.

Mayonaka Heart Tune starts with a strong foundation but a shaky execution. The premise itself is solid: a romantic comedy with slice-of-life elements, centered around multiple heroines who actually feel written, not just copy-pasted archetypes. You can clearly tell the source material has substance, and that the mangaka knows how to create appealing characters with distinct motivations and personalities.

Each of the four girls is properly introduced, and none of them feel outright lazy or hollow. Kirino Iko, in particular, stands out early with her introverted personality and dream of becoming a VTuber, which gives her more depth than the usual “shy girl” trope. Rikka Inohana feels like the narrative core so far, with the clearest path for future development. Even Nene Himekawa, while intentionally irritating, works as a contrast to balance the group dynamic rather than being annoying for no reason.

Visually, the anime is fine. The color palette leans toward a slightly retro, soft aesthetic that fits the tone, reminiscent of shows like Komi Can’t Communicate. Animation quality is serviceable and consistent — nothing impressive, but not distracting either.

Where Episode 1 starts to fall apart is direction and pacing. The episode lacks strong timing, especially in its final moments. The cliffhanger is extremely predictable and lands with almost no emotional impact. Instead of building tension or curiosity, it feels abrupt and anticlimactic, as if the director rushed to end the episode without properly setting the mood.

This is worrying, because the episode clearly wants to hook the viewer, but fails due to poor execution rather than poor writing. The idea is there. The setup is there. The payoff simply isn’t.

Overall, Episode 1 feels like wasted potential. The concept and characters suggest something that could easily reach an 8 or higher, but weak direction drags it down significantly. As it stands, this is a decent but unremarkable start, relying heavily on future episodes to prove that the adaptation can do justice to its source material.

Score for Episode 1: 6.5/10 (leaning generous)
Worth continuing — but with caution.

Solid first episode. Although I expect more because they rearrange some events here and there and even cut the funny/comedy parts to fit the 24 minutes allocated but let's see the next episodes. My only complain is why they tone down the design of the girl's uniform tho (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻. That's what make this series unique (beside mc's personality)

@themasterseaso yea this is the worst part really. No thicc thighs either! But it's not like there was an excessive amount of fan service so not sure why they felt the need to tone it down. Overall pretty mediocre, but not bad. Could have been a much worse adaptation.

Unique premise for a harem, I'll definitely take it. And finally an MC with some confidence! I really dig his over-the-top, cocksure attitude.
The jokes and quips felt nice in that they weren't excessive, but at times shocking enough to make me laugh a good bit. Definitely looking forward to what this show has in store!

Some people say it has bad animation... but it's not the worst. It's decent for me. I think i'll reread the manga while waiting for the next episode.

Also suisei's song is great! And the mv is even better. I hope the anime can live up to her performance and give us a good opening animation on the next episode.
