Where things left off, Shibuya became a breeding ground for curses after a big battle there that sees Sukuna awaken, and because of that Yuji is being targeted for execution. While the season was great, unfortunately it was made under a tight production schedule that led to inconsistent animation quality. Hopefully after all the backlash MAPPA got for their toxic working environment with that season that the guys working on this season got to make things under a much more reasonable environment. As this season will be split-cour that it seems to be just that.

Episode 48

To start things out, Naoya becomes the next head of the Zenin family, while his uncle Ogi and big brother Jinchi support him as he leads the operation to cull Yuji. And it didn't take long for Noya to find Yuji. After that happens, a big fight breaks down as Yuji and Yuta fight each other. After a long battle, Yuta stabs Yuji. That's a great way to pick things up right where they left off as last season left a big mess of things and turned Yuji into a villain.

Episode 49

And it turns out that Yuta was just putting on an act under orders from Gojo, and that he's actually his ally, all while Choso takes out Naoya. Yuta made it possible by using his reverse curse ability that heals when Yuta's heart stops. He's hoping that the Zenin family will back off after faking the execution. After that, Megumi arrives telling him that now is the time to return to Jujutsu High, all while Choso was listening in. Megumi does so because he wants to rescue his sister Tsumiki, who is being held captive at Jujutsu High and needs his strength to make it happen. And while that happens, Not-Geto has started the Culling Game.

So with that, the season starts at the halfway point of the series, meaning that it be four more cours before reaching the end.

Absolute Cinema!!! xD That first 2 episode are helluva cinemtaic treat!
Itadori and Choso walking down the stairs, the Zenin brothers and the messenger in a tight room, Naoya just casually showing up in the far blurry background as Itadori and Yuji was having a convo, and of course, the fight scenes. Love it!

I also liked how most stuff has been done so casually, like how Choso is just immediately Itadori's new tag team partner, and Fushiguro just casually joining in on the conversation between Itadori and Yuta.

And this is suddenly at the top of my Anime list this season. Even if it wasn't a double episode release, that first episode would've been enough for me.

That Naoya fight was awesome. I could swear I've seen those exact moves in one of Donnie Yen's movies, but even if I suspect it was at least partially rotoed, I have no objections to the result.

That said I still have long lost the plot thread in this series, but in something with this kind of eye candy, I don't care.

Again, every time I hear a name I'm wondering who it is they're talking about. Yuji's is pretty much the only one I recognize. Who the heck is this Tsukiwhatever person that they're so worried about and why should I care? Too many characters that we're expected to get excited about or care about has always been problem number one with this show. I could give less than a crap about most of them.

Then there's this story which I've totally lost track of. I thought I knew the basics of what's going on. Then I'm thinking what they heck are they talking about? Who are these people who just got powers and how did they get them? This culling game seems like a dumb idea too. From what I remember the whole idea of the bad guy was to expose the existence of cursed energy/spirits to try to create more people to who are aware of it all as a way to finally deal with the problem of curses once and for all. So why then create a game where they are rewarded for killing normal people? That will be a great way to lessen cursed energy and get people to see those who can use it in a positive way right? Obviously not.

I can't think a show is good just because it looks nice.

At least this show is focusing on Yuji now. I hope that continues. He's the only reason I'm still watching this.

Episode 50

And here is an episode that's all info dumping as it explains the rules of the Culling Game in detail and what the main objective is for holding it. This is all part of Kenjaku's plan, who is the guy who has assumed Geto's appearance, to forcefully evolve mankind so that they can merge with Tengen, and Kenjaku becomes one step closer to ruling the sorcery world. So with all that stuff explained, Yuji and company are going to have to come up with a plan to rescue Tsumiki and Gojo seeing that's the main reason why they are taking part in this death game in which losing is not an option.

Me, nine minutes in: "Man, there's no point in my even listening to this bullshit because I'm not going to remember it anyway."

Me, sixteen minutes in: "Fuck me, he's still talking!"

Me, twenty-one minutes in: "Finally! Are we starting the show now?"

One minute later: END CREDITS

Blah blah blah Confusing story expositions blah blah blah Game mechanics to sell this to people who wants chaotic battle royale blah blah blah

No wonder they posted 2 back to back episodes: they wanted treat us to a really good start first, So we can easily forgive the tutorial episode. I'd say it's effective for me. xD

"Unfortunately, there no way to do [this]. But fortunately, there is."

You guys are not ready for how much of a clusterfuck this is going to become. I'm only watching this for the production, because from now until the end, this series just goes absolutely bonkers.

Episode 51

Preparations are underway for the Culling Game, and for Maki she's going back to her clan's stronghold to get some cursed weapons, all while getting revenge on her clan. First, she takes down the clan head Ogi as just when it looked like her grandfather had his way, Mai sacrifices herself so that Maki can deliver the fatal blow on Ogi. Then she makes quick work of the Kukuri Unit, and then the Hei go down just like that. Then Maki's mother kills Naoya before being killed herself by Maki. The Culling Game hasn't even started, and already there's a ton of chaos as Maki takes out her wrath on the Zenin clan.

Bloody freakin' hell!!! That was heavy as fk! Massive Tank Maki just obliterated an entire clan or more. *o*
They really gave this episode extra 4 minutes for Maki to lay down the law, and it was worth every second.

Such a waste to lose Naoya so early, but he served his purpose greatly-- his my 'antagonist of the season'.

Not too crazy about JJK as whole, but I'm really digging this season.

The exposition episode was OK except for the parts where the author was trying to show off how smart they are by making everything way more complicated than necessary. Lord of Mystery was easier to follow than this show.

Most of that was pretty meh until she blasted that guys face into the ground. That part was fun. I might have enjoyed the rest of the fight if I understood more than 20% of the significance of what was happening.

They just completely ripped off Kill Bill right down to the one inch punch.

The part with the mom was, uh, how do I put this... ??????????! That's the best I can do.

All that and no cursed weapons?

@zkeleton yeah, I came to post, it was an obvious homage to Kill Bill.

I must be missing something too. Has the cursed spirit that's the main antagonist now infiltrated the Jujutsu leadership? Why are they forbidding Gojo from being unsealed?

The Zenin apparently don't give a damn about anything but their own place in the Jujutsu hierarchy.

I think her mom tried to stop her from going to the vault to save her from the dad. I am guessing in the end the mom kind of wanted Maki to kill her to atone for all the shit she gave them due to clan pressure, then the mom got revenge on blondy as part of her anger at the clan and herself turning their back on Maki and Mai.

Also I think she walked out of there with 2 cursed weapons

Episode 52

Yuji is preparing for the Culling Game by fighting in underground matches as after all, he is a wanted man and faked his death to get out of danger. The place is run by Hakari, who was suspended from Jujutsu High, and his first opponent is Panda. Seeing that he's fighting a close ally that the two use this opportunity to exchange information. And then Hakari talks about passion as he sees Yuji as having that. Of course, things aren't going to sit well with Yuji there seeing that Hakari was suspended for a reason. So more prepration continues as these sorcerers need to do whatever it takes knowing what's about to go down.

So is Jujutsu High School the only entity in the Jutjutsu world that actually cares about protecting the world from cursed spirits? The rest of them just seem worried about climbing to the top of the hierarchy, they seem more interested in fighting each other than cursed spirits

@HOOfan_1 I guess that's somewhat realistic. It's like how most people in DC are far more interested in protecting what power they have than doing the kinds of things that would actually be helpful. Probably the main reason they don't want Gojo freed is because he was the primary force keeping these people in check.

Another episode that kept losing my interest and barely paid attention to. Just hard to care about the mechanics anymore when it's already all over the place, or would require me to read a guide to connect the dots xD

The fake fight between Yuji and Panda was fun. The uncut single shot scene by the end is also notable. The entire thing with the teacher though felt like it was vaguely over-dramatic. I do like the part where he just casually gave away the information he had before dying, since anyone having that knowledge is pretty much a dead man walking to anyone who wants it, same thing that happened to him.

Episode 53

And now, it's a battle between Megumi and Panda against Kirara as Panda is looking to get Kirara and Hakari to help them out in their battle against Kenjaku. Kirara has quite an interesting curse technique where she tags people with tatoos of star names, and then attack with the Southern Cross technique. But Megumi figured out how her power works and moves in to pin her down. And then Yuji and Hakari have their battle spilling over. Yuji admits he's just a cog, but even so has to teach Hakari a lesson. So after all that, they got their message through to convince them to help out with the Culling Game. In the meantime, a rule has been added to the Culling as Kashimo wants to be able to see everybody's personal information, and he has racked up enough points to make it happen.

JEEZ! We get it! You like creating genius mechanics; Just make a video game already! xD

Kirara's power so complicated, the writer(s) didn't trust us to understand it without the characters explaining every single bit of it as the fight goes on-- even the facial reaction joke they explained. If things are deemed too complicated for the viewers/readers... shouldn't an editor have already disapproved of it in the first place?

Anyway, fairly entertaining fight, and Kirara's cute too. If Kirara's ability wasn't so convoluted, this would've been much more fun to watch as we see Fushigoro trying to figure it out, instead of having Kirara expose her ability to us as well.

Also not real smart to put a giant clue to your ability right on your chin for the whole world to see. As soon as someone connects it to constellations they're going to think Southern Cross.

Episode 54

And with that, the Culling Game has begun as thanks to the rule Kashimo added that they are able to find out who has the points who can make a rule change to get Tsumiki out of the Culling Game, and for that they set their sights on Higuruma. They also found a loophole in the rules about players being stripped of their powers if the don't gain any points after a certain amount of time by transferring their points back and forth. So after coming up with a game plan to get everybody out of this diabolic game alive, it is put into action where Yuji and Megumi enter Tokyo Colony No. 1 to go after those close to Higuruma to find him, while Panda and Hakari enter Tokyo Colony No. 2. Unfortunately, it's tougher than it looks as it's clear that somebody is lying since two different people tell him he's in two different places. And thus, Yuji and company begin their part in the Culling Game, and everybody's survival will depend on finding Higuruma.

Rules Rules Rules Blah Blah Blah Loop Holes Loop Holes Loop Holes Blah Blah Blah

Good thing there was some action and cliffhanger by the latter 3rd part.

This really isn't the chaotic, destructive, dark, super natural, Action JJK that I liked in S1. I miss when villains just cause unannounced chaos and destruction, and the protectors prevents it. Not a fan of this game show BS. One more excessive exposition and I'm out.

It was nice finally getting to see Yuuji just blasting away at some bad guys.

So I guess the guy at the beginning is Yuuji's mom. Or was Yuuji's mom at some point. He was being pretty nice compared to every other time we've seen him.

I have no idea how what's happening now somehow involves ancient sorcerers.
