Synopsis
Flum Apricot was never meant to be a hero. Despite zero stats across the board and a power she can't even use, she somehow finds herself included in a party of heroes. But Flum's life hits rock bottom when the party's renowned sage, Jean Inteige, decides that the useless girl is dead weight, and arranges to have her sold into slavery. Tossed to monsters to be feasted upon for her master's entertainment, Flum makes the desperate choice to reach for a cursed weapon... and something new awakens within her. A grimdark tale about one woman's blood-soaked quest to reclaim her life!

Well another "dumped by my party for being useless" show, though this one is at least brutally violent. I like her power, that's at least something interesting. Too bad the artwork is kinda bad. At least it's not following the usual tropes with the hero being an egotistical ass or her childhood friend. Jeez is the poor white hair girl going to have to wear those bandages the whole time?

Oh one my faves Kikuko Inoue is the narrator and her daughter is one of the characters, nice.

And here's yet another show about being kicked out of the party, but while Jean had every reason to do so seeing that somebody with goose eggs across the board for all stats should have no business being in such a party, selling her to slavery was taking things too far.  However, that turned out to be how Flum discovered what her unique skill Reversal is as it means she can wield cursed weapons, something that would kill anybody else.

From what I hear, the manga is very good.  But given this studio's reputation that I approach this with skepticism, and the animation quality is what I have come to expect, which is not a good thing.

How does slavery work in that world?

* Can a nobleman sell any peasant?
* Any "free man" can hurt a slave with no consequences.
* Wow, a slave is free to join the adventurers' guild without the master's consent.

It has my attention. It needs to work a bit to win me over, though. That reversal ability of hers could be fun.

Yes! More revenge p*rn! YES! Muhahahaha!!!

Protag is the usual stupidly oblivious, and the villain's motivation seems stupid; like a typical 'evil for the sake of evil' psycho.
It felt like the issue was less about slavery, and more about the environment of that world in general being completely rotten. Imagine just about anyone having the authority to decide who they want to turn into a slave, even a member of a 'Party of Heroes', without that individual's say on anything. And the low-class people seem to enjoy having slaves too look down on, to have some superiority over someone.

I won't take the story too seriously until the show gives me a reason too. For now, All I ask from this is they do the vengeance aspect satisfyingly.

This is somewhere between the usual kicked out of the party story and RE-do of healer.

It would be nice if it was a bit less... childish is the best word I can come up with. Take the sage guy for instance. Why not make him someone who can put on a genuinely good/charming facade that makes you actually believe he could fool the rest of the party into thinking he's sincere. Instead, he's such a conspicuous piece of crap that you have to wonder why the other 'heroes' would listen to anything he has to say.

Oh well, there's still enough here to like that I'll keep watching for now.

Episode 2

The quest that Flum was sent on as her first mission would have killed just about any newbie adventurer that Flum is seeing that it's a more difficult mission disguised as an F-rank quest. But with Flum's cursed weapon, she took down the werewolf, and it's easy to see why it throws newbies for a loop seeing that it can still fight back even with a wound like that which would kill most other similarly-ranked monsters. And surprise, surprise that things aren't going so well back in Flum's former party seeing that they miss Flum's cooking as that was the only thing she could do well in the party not knowing the nature of her ability. Looks like Eterna is going to try and get in contact with Flum again as unlike with Jean, the young-looking old witch doesn't like the direction the party is going. So with that, Flum now has enough money to at least live a comfortable life in the slums, relatively speaking.

Yeah not sure what to make of it yet. Lot of mixed signals, like what was with that werewolf head at the end? It knew her name?

Episode 3

Here comes Sara, a nun who helps Flum take down a couple of purse snatchers who are Dein's thugs. And then they go to the village she came from where they spend a night there, then the next day gather some herbs from an dangerous dungeon. If it were just the ogres and other monsters they had to deal with it wouldn't have been any problem for Flum. But some of Dein's thugs followed them there and cast a curse on an ogre to specifically target Flum as retaliation, and is much stronger than a normal ogre. There certainly is a lot of corruption going on as there's something amiss about the church Sara belongs to, all while Dein is out for blood, and now the two will need to find their way out after falling into the hole to escape the ogre's attack.

Okay! Now we're talking. We have a number of good new characters, and the show isn't so dark anymore. The demons aren't nearly as nasty as some of the humans. I'm adding this show to my watch list.

Why is she dressing her like a maid, and giving her the Rem haircu...ohhh. Not very subtle there are they. Little blonde nun is kind of annoying, also what is her superpower besides healing that she could run after and take down that thug? Oof lotsa legs being lost this week. I am starting to see the trend now with Cleavatess and this of giving girls a power so they can be cut to shreds and still live, kind of a disturbing trend. Looks like something took a shit on that ogre's face, gross.

Sounds like the church is wiping out towns that don't worship their god and blaming it on demons.

Yup, I came to post exactly this. The scar on Sara's neck looks exactly like Flum's slave mark...Seems like the church basically made her a slave.

Also spirals...what is this Uzumaki?

Episode 4

And here's another classic case of the guys who claim to serve god are far more evil than the ones they claim to be the worst of the worst as Flum discovers that the church has been engaging in some secret experiments that are cruel beyond imagination, and it resulted in creating those monsters with vortex faces who are out to kill Flum and won't stop until she's dead. While Flum has a special ability to bail her out, she's not strong enough to fully utilize it, especially given the resources she has there, and is wiped out after defeating a single vortex-faced ogre. But those two are saved by a demon as Neigass arrives just in time to save Flum and Sara. It turns out that demons are honorable beings who will never kill humans for selfish reasons, a far cry from what Sara was told by the church about them. So after getting to know a demon, that changes a lot of perspectives as defeating the demon lord will do a lot more harm than good. And whiel Sara allying herself with a demon is naughty, that's a far cry from the awful things the church has been doing.

Meh more "good" demons and a corrupt church. Also I don't really understand these cursed things like her boots she just got. They are only useful to her because her power reverses the curse, making them into something that enhances her power. But since a normal person would have the curse affect them isn't it detrimental to wear them? Why would a normal person wear something that handicapped them? Guess she is going to lose at least one limb per episode. That guy who taught her that technique and his sword sure bore a striking resemblance to someone, hmm can't put my finger on it.

Cursed items are equipment that's become infused with vengeful spirits of the dead. They showed the cavalier guy telling her that last episode when he was talking to her about looting items from corpses--it was a very quick flashback. So I'm pretty sure the items weren't cursed when the previous owner was using them, they became cursed when that person person died.

@zkeleton

Considering the circumstances of all those gruesome deaths, it makes sense that a cursed item was formed. And it just naturally flows that a cursed item would gain things like, say, reduce stats by 1,347 points -- shock the person with lightning -- and an appropriate name will be attributed to the item, such as "Gloves of Shock Therapy". It's all just a typical spiritual consequence resulting from such a vengeful aura.

Episode 5

Flum shows no mercy there seeing that her former captors didn't. So after getting the herbs, she brings them to the client Leitch and her sister Welcy, and the two are looking to investigate the corrupt church, but Flum is staying quiet about what she saw there. So as a reward, Flum and Milkit get a place to live in the West District, and it turns out that somebody has been living in that house as Flum's former comrade Eterna has taken up residence there and is so glad to see Flum again as unlike with the rest of the party, she truly sees Flum as a friend and was concerned about her after what Jean did to kick her out of the party. And once again, while Eterna may look young and cute, she's actually an old lady.

Ooh brutal I thought she was going to spare him then just stabbed herself in the neck. The transitions in this show are really disjointed, the director must be a rookie...or just suck. So what is the witch girl from her party doing there? They just glossed right over it.
Also what's with all the newspaper reporters on these shows lately? Ironic since real newspapers are on the verge of extinction.

@MenchiK1 The thing that gets me is no one else in the party was suspicious that Flum just vanished while Jean is going around talking about how he got rid of Flum and while the Hero is on the verge of tears all the time? There's no way they didn't notice Jean is farking insane.

Witch girl better be leaving the party after this.

Episode 6

Flum finally has the ordinary life she desired as she lives with Milkit, who serves as the housemaid and cook, and Eterna, who left the party to live a quiet life herself and has become her caretaker, along with Sara, who is still working hard to expose the church for all their corruptions and nasty things. Of course, all good things must come to an end, and at least for now that's happening as Dein is none too pleased that two of his thugs were killed after they laid out a trap for Flum, and now he's hiring the army to hunt her down, and now she's in a tight spot as no matter what she does, she's screwed.

No explanation for why Eterna was there? Also the yuri in this is so weird. I know you're just a weak, diseased slave girl, who I rescued and now calls me master but I can't keep my hands off of you. If she was a guy it would be really creepy. I can only imagine what outsiders would say "Hey you still banging your traumatized maid?' The power dynamic is just so out of whack. Let the girl heal a little before pushing her into a relationship.

Arguably, Flum is just as emotionally farked up as Milk and clinging to her. Not that that absolves her of anything but it does make for a pretty unhealthy codependent relationship.

I guess but she isn't also recovering from a violent, attempted rape that happened yesterday. You'd think Flum having to murder the guy would be something it would take more than a few hours to get over.

Episode 7

Dein has turned all the West District against Flum with those wanted posters, and even threatened a child. But it's Ottilie to the rescue as she is the guard who brought Flum into the hero's party and is on great terms with her, unlike with Dein who is a former member of a disgraced noble family. So thanks to Ottilie, she has somebody in the Royal Guard she can trust to protect their ordinary life, all while Dein is about to die a painful death after his guild mate Kahnis turns on him and orders the guard to eliminate him. Dein runs away only to find that his fallen comrades are part of a diabolical experiment done by the church, and is about to join Phil as that vile thing. This goes to show that Dein is a coward of the worst kind.
