Yeah, I'm always reminded of how intimidating Tsurumi is in this franchise. However, I still find to be one of the most interesting characters given his complicated personality and past.

Looks like Sugimoto and the others are trying to retake back Aspira. Although Aspira looked vulnerable this episode, she still had her survival instincts. Definitely interesting that Sophia ended up in the same place as her. Quite a thrilling episode.

Not only entertaining but also explore deeply into minority people and their culture, something very hard for a country that its leader claim to has only one ethnic group for the past 2,000 years. Golden Kamuy itself is also an Ainu treasure.

This season has been excellent. Every week the wait for the next episode becomes harder.

Another great episode; this season is truly wonderful. Tsurumi is definitely one of the most complex characters; he's so intimidating that he managed to shake Sofia. The past that binds them has left deep scars.

Koito and Tsukishima's doubts are growing stronger, a test of their loyalty and a decision to be made. I can't wait to see which path each of them chooses.

As for Wilk, his choice is understandable. Prioritizing the future of his wife and daughter instead of taking on the seemingly invincible Russian Empire is a pragmatic choice, but I understand Kiroranke. Seeing all the sacrifices they made for years for their people's freedom thrown away for the benefit of a "foreign" people is enough to fill you with hatred. It bodes well for what's to come.

Such a great ep. It was so reminiscent of AOT! A lot of things actually. It's really incredible how this ep was mostly dialogue unlike the previous ones yet it was so engaging.

Gotta Love Tsurumi. We go back to memory lane to that ONE episode that they were taking about. I suddenly remembered how it really was one of the best episodes I've ever seen. There's these people trying to start a revolution and shit and this random dude shows up claiming to be a Photographer. Then we see him lose everything. In the final scene they casually reveal he was the Villian all along. He looked so menacing in this ep. That scene from the poster is finally here and it didn't disappoint. The direction and the storyboarding was so good. Also it looks like the trust is slowly fading between his comrades. Never thought Tsurumi's biggest fan boy, Koito would start doubting him one day.

I thought they would keep it ambiguous till the end but was surprised a certain detail was kinda revealed. The entire war on the hill and ofc him getting his face blown off was presented ambiguously when it was first shown, but according to Tsukishima it might have been an all an act afterall. It really was personal.

I also appreciate how actual history is integrated in the story, like the whole arguement b/w Wilk and Kiro there. It's an interesting development. I'll be honest, I might have loved it even more if I actually remembered most of the plot details. It's literally been years since the show started you know.

Looks like more's gonna get revealed soon. It's actually sad people are sleeping on this masterpiece.

This was such a great episode and has really made this season go in full swing now, connecting events from seasons earlier quite effectively into the moment right now. Seeing Sofia have a reunion with Hasegawa/Tsurumi and be reminded of trauma that was lingering with her for so long for what happened to Tsurumi's daughter and wife, Fina, and the doubts created with Koito and Tsukishima was so good and trust issues are forming more and more. The integration of history with the drama from the show just works so well. Loved the scene with Wilk and Kiroranke and their confrontation about Wilk's choice to live on his current life at the time and protect that instead of support the original mission with Kiroranke with the revolution due to what he gained emotionally with his wife and daughter there. They left Sofia behind and ultimately, choosing to live in independence with people of foreign nature than support the revolution and having taken so many lives and sacrifices for freedom is a very complex issue that made Kiroranke's feelings feel justified from his lens. The episode looks very solid too and adapted the material really well. There's still more backstory to come but so far, this has been excellent.

Also, I laughed so hard at the one moment with Sugimoto and Shiraishi driving and once they hit the accelerator, seeing Botaro's corpse just sliding off like that in such a goofy fashion. It was hilarious in a very serious and dramatic context in their journey to find Asirpa again and rescue her. With other Russians looking for Sofia, and them waiting for Hijikata and the others to show up to the church, the buildup for the upcoming episodes has been great.

I've seen enough episodes now to get my faith back. Episode 1 of this season and the way last season was handled really lowered my expectations, but I feel safe believing they will end this show well. I hope my faith isn't misplaced.

I love how an episode that is largely dialogue and tension can be just as riveting as ultra violence. With more ultra violence almost certainly promised in the next few episodes. I'm kinda glad I forgot so much backstory, so the reveals can hit even harder when enough info is recalled. At some point after this season ends, I'm gonna have to watch this whole anime from episode 1 so everything flows better.

Tsurumi continues to be master manipulator, a guy with no problem turning half truths into full lies. Asirpa was able to avoid being tricked by the other guy, I'm anxious to see if she can go 2 for 2. I don't believe Tsurumi would do his thing JUST for revenge, there's definitely some more twists that are going to be revealed.

The humor in this episode was as well timed as ever. Sugimoto fighting every muscle in his body not to assault that church followed by getting ejected from a car with a slide whistle. We only have a few more episodes to enjoy this humor.

This was such a tense episode man despite it being mostly dialogue, that’s how you know it was well done. I didn’t think about Tsurumi and Sofia meeting again when she appeared at the end of the previous episode, but damn her appearance really changes things, Tsurumi wasted no time getting himself alone with her once she was captive, or at least he thinks he’s alone, because Tsukishima and Koito are listening in on the whole thing, this will definitely be a fork in the road for the two of them on whether they stay with Tsurumi or not, personally I can see Koito changing sides but idk about Tsukishima, I guess we’ll have to wait and see. And now Tsurumi’s past as Hasegawa is out in the open, I don’t know what he could be planning here besides revenge, but that also seems too easy, so it’ll be interesting to see what he does here assuming he doesn’t get interrupted.

There was also that bit where Tsukishima realized the true reason why Tsurumi wants to claim Vladivostok, and it’s not so their comrades could be buried in Japan, but so his wife and child could be, I mean both are respectable reasons but this will no doubt shake Tsukishima’s loyalty. And I gotta say, it feels absolutely wild to finally be seeing what went down between the Ainu that knew of the gold’s location after all this time, including the falling out between Wilk and Kiroranke (I’m happy he still has some scenes beyond his death), and as unfortunate as that is, both sides make sense, like of course Wilk would want to prioritize Hokkaido after having a new family there, and Kiroranke is right to feel betrayed after all they’ve been through together fighting for their people back in Russia, it’s just a tough situation.

And from here I’m thinking it’s gonna get crazy again, Tsurumi didn’t get far enough away so it’s probably all gonna go down at that church, I also hope we get to see who killed those Ainu that were with Wilk, there’s a lot to anticipate going into the next one.

What a shame, if the revolutionaries had just waited another decade or so, the fall of the Tsardom would've been the perfect time to enact their plan and take advantage of the Russian Civil War to carve out their little corner republic.

Even in a serious episode like this one, seeing Sugimoto crashing the beer bottle car multiple times while trying to get used to driving it make me chuckle. XD

There was a lot of information to take in, with Tsurumi's part the most interesting. It did reveal the main reason as to why Tsurumi wanted to take over Vladivostock was for his deceased wife and child. Although that reason is understandable, I don't blame Tsukishima for looking visibly angered by hearing this revelation while listening into Tsurumi's talk alongside Koito.

The same goes for the backstory about the gold and the Ainu. Wilk's change of stance after settling into Hokkaido and wanting to protect his family makes sense, but I can't blame Kiroranke for feeling betrayed as he wanted to see through his and Wilk's original goal. Seeing the two former friends clash like that was sad to see.

I can see things getting more intense, not only from the discussion Tsurumi is having with Asirpa and Sofia, but the fact that both Sugimoto and Shiraishi have locked onto the church where they correctly believe is where Asirpa is being hidden. Add in Hijikata's group into the mix and I can it being only a matter of time before things greatly escalate once again.

Great direction for this important episode

There’s few antagonists in manga in recent times that are as fascinating and compelling as Tsurumi. Only Askeladd from Vinland Saga comes close for me.

Just when it felt like a big revelation was about to drop, END CREDITS. URGH. All caught up now, it sucks I have to wait a whole week...

My memory's a little hazy, I got a few questions about what we know so far (please, no spoilers):

1. Has it ever been stated or even hinted that Kiroranke was the one that killed the Ainu chiefs "that night"? I may be misremembering, but I think Asirpa asked him directly at one point, but I can't remember how he answered.

2. How do Kikuta and Sugimoto know each other? Have we seen them interact before this season? Or is that something that will be revealed later?

3. What was Sofia up to in Season 4? And who are these Russians following her? I assume they're from the prison she escaped from?

Does she speak Japanese? I thought she didn't.

Man, gotta love how well-connected everything in this show is. The writing is just so good.

Another fantastic episode. Tsurumi continues to show why he's such a great antagonist and the conclusion with Kiroranke got me all excited for next episode.
