That was a nice build-up episode
So Yuki's mentor's goal was to set a record of 99 games played, im guessing she died before reaching that goal since that is now Yuki's goal
Moegi was brutal, but understandable because the stump team needs to kill in order to win the game
Anyone else notice how both of Yuki's eyes are blue? in present time one of her eye is grey, Im guessing she was injured in a later game and got a prosthetic
Cant wait for next week's episode!

There was a brief moment at the end of the first episode, too, where she didn't heterochromatic eyes. I've been waiting to see why one of her eyes had to be replaced with the grey one since, and it looks like the show's finally getting there.

Ok finally time to see the game we've all been waiting for...Candle Woods. Seeing how bad Golden bath was...this is going to be multiple times worse. For that yeah they killed each other but it wasn't literally the rules or point of the game that they had to kill each other even if it kinda was. In this one the game is literally being hunted or being the hunter. It's not like the first game which was just an escape game this is a killing game.

We also finally see Yuki's mentor and probably reason for her wanting to beat 99 games. She is an amazing player that has managed to beat 95 games wtf. Well this is her 95th? still beating 94 games in a row is insane. That's actually crazy. So the record is 98 and she wants to beat 99 to beat it. Considering the reputation of this specific game and that Yuki also wants to beat specifically 99 games is it safe to assume that the record of 98 wasn't broken by her mentor? I'm assuming she somehow dies this game despite being such a vetern. This is a game that'll cull many of the veteran players I assume? Like someone that has beat 29 games isn't even in the talking table. I guess the game had enough of the many veteran players making games too easy?

Also wonder if the 98 record is actually true? if so who tf was it previous that went that far? did they just stop at 98 or did they die at 99? probably dead.

For this game I'm just assuming everyone is likely going to die besides Yuki.

Stumps hunting rabbits. It's an interesting match up. The veteran bunny players are hunted while the hunters are a bunch of noobs? except one player Moegi. She is the single veteran who has to lead this team of noobs to kill the rabbits. I wonder if she'll survive this game? potentially a new rival or rather old? to replace Mishiro?

Also really do like to see the attitude difference of Yuki in past and newer games. The Yuki in this one doesn't even know why she wants to play these games and doesn't even count the games properly. Also notice the eyes...I wonder if the grey one we see later is from her mentor.

That was a strong start to the infamous Candle Woods game. The juxtaposition of of the hunter vs the hunted game with the bunny suit is pretty amusing. But honestly it makes sense for the plot considering they are entertaining the people behind the camera. Moegi is such an interesting character right put of the bat. She understands what it takes to beat the game and conceals her emotion to get things done. Overall, this episode is a nice start to an upcoming blood (cotton) bath.

Now I know exactly why Yuuki is playing these games.
If you guys notice, Yuuki had two blue eyes in this game, which is different from her heterochromia look that we saw in earlier episodes with one blue eye & one grey.
Now, try to guess who had grey eyes? HER MENTOR/TEACHER!!!

In my opinion, Yuuki had an eye transplant from her mentor/teacher's dead body & now she is trying to achieve level 99 to fulfil the her dream. To make her teacher see with "her own eyes" what reaching that level is like (& maybe also all of the other girls that she had parts of transplanted into her). Basically, Yuuki is trying to make every girl who ever endured these games a winner by reaching level 99 & setting the record for/with all of them.

Damn, this episode had some of the most brutal scenes we've seen so far... Looks like we've got an interesting new antagonist for Yuuki to deal with, too. I can't wait to see how this all plays out! I would also love to know more about Yuuki's mentor, and why Yuuki now has one eye the same color as hers... Iiiinteresting....

The stump team seems awfully handicapped if the bunnies can fight and even steal their weapon.
Can't wait to see where things went wrong!
@EienGem wat? They're handicapped because they have to fight unarmed people and the unarmed people can fight back??? That doesn't make any sense

Does anybody know why they're called "stumps"? The in-ground remains of chopped-down trees don't seem like something that'd typically hunt rabbits....

Holy crap, proper setup and character backstories?!

Feels like the show’s back on track again after that god awful bath game. Spending a whole episode on the setup? Hell yes.

@popa910 It's probably a reference to a Chinese fable:

Once upon a time, there was a farmer who worked hard in the fields every day.

One day, while he was working in the field, he suddenly saw a rabbit running very fast toward him. The rabbit was running so fast that it crashed headfirst into a tree stump at the edge of the field and died.

The farmer was very happy. He picked up the rabbit and took it home for a delicious meal. He thought: “If I could pick up a rabbit like this every day, how wonderful that would be! I would not have to work so hard anymore.”

From then on, the farmer stopped working. Every day he sat beside that tree stump, waiting for a rabbit to come and crash into it.

Day after day passed, but no more rabbits crashed into the tree stump. The farmer’s field became overgrown with weeds, and all his crops died.

Yes, I assure you it’s essential for the girls to wear Bunny girl suits in a death game 🤣 I like how there’s an actual in universe logical explanation since they’re broken into teams with the bunnies being hunted by stumps.

We’re finally at the legendary candle woods game. I’m a little confused by the timeline here, this presumably takes place very early in Yuki’s game career right? They’ve dropped some references throughout the series about how pivotal this game was in her development so I’m excited to see that play out. That said, her mentor is definitely a goner right? So many death flags. Saying she only has 4 games to go and wanted to choose wisely, everyone calling her the best game player, the way she invites Yuki to reflect on her journey and why she’s playing the games, etc. I just know it’s gonna break me.

The direction is always amazing in this show, but I think I just clocked what really makes it special. It’s the music, or lacktherof in so many big scenes. For example, Yuki talking to her mentor. Silence and the lack of stimulation force us to confront our own fears and insecurities which is scary for so many people. Making scenes like this so much more poignant and terrifying. It’s not having any musical cues as to what comes next, just ambient noise.

On the other side, we’ve got Moegi who feels like a mix of Mishiro and Yuki to me and is basically playing the leader role for the stumps. The way she had ol girl open her mouth just to blow her brains out is NUTS. This story doesn’t shy away from very dark stuff. But even Moegi is clearly battling a lot of demons.. ah I’m so excited for next episode, I feel like it’s going to be one of the best of the year.
@Marinate1016 oh, so the games are out of sequence? I just assumed Yuki would lie about the number of games she cleared so as not to appear intimidating to the other players. How early in her career was the pool game then?
Moegi has seen some shit. Watching another girl rip apart that other girl would really leave some scars.
