In both anime and manga, what’s the best/craziest high stakes game you’ve seen ? Because this week episode with the concept of bunny vs stump game with the bunnies being veterans and the stump are novice at best was one of the most interesting one ive seen since the all bets cruise game from tomodachi game (haven’t read or watched liar game)

uhhhh.... if the question is asking if this is the best High Stakes Game anime for me, definitely not. I've contemplated dropping it, despite the season being almost done.

Danganronpa and Future Diary had me seriously invested, with all the criticisms people have toward those franchises granted.
Here, I sit through the episodes hardly able to differentiate the ladies here and hardly able to recall actual plot points when the screen turns off.

It could be that I'm the kind of brainrotted where I need all of the characters to be bombastic to the point of living archetypes, but regardless of what that says about me, I know which ones have me excited enough to look into all the manga and anime and video games and light novels and whatever else may be involved in their franchises... and this isn't one of them.

Oddly enough, outside of the "High Stakes Game" genre question, the other main find I've been enjoying this season has been the Case Book of Arne. Based on an RPG Maker game title I played on Steam. The game itself only has one "case" as a murder mystery where a vampire is a detective. So the anime is mostly original cases (with other supernatural perpetrators) as far as I can tell, which REALLY suffers from pacing issues. The one case it adapted I feel could have been expanded on more. I wish some of the DLC was covered. I wish some character introductions weren't just breezed over. A definitely flawed product, even just looking at what's happened so far. But... I also find it quite a bit more fun.

In a similar vein, I also picked up Kaya-chan Isn't Scary on a whim this season... not a High Stakes Game, but a horror series which basically is Mieruko-chan but the protag is in kindergarten. Apparently, the plot gets pretty deep, despite the contrasting child-like appearances.

For other "High Stakes Game" titles, I have ones like Darwin Game and Tomodachi Game on my PTW list, and Kakegurui I started forever ago that I actually want to go back and watch properly at some point. I think you could count Tribe Nine too, which is basically "'EXTREME' baseball" in fact made by the Danganronpa team which was...fine, and I enjoyed Death Parade too. I picked this series up on a whim from the summary, genre tag, and title convincing me, but it might actually be my worst instinctive pick in a while, I'm sorry to admit.

I'm hoping I'll have more luck with Liar Game next season.

Shiboyugi is great, but Kaiji is better

Also honorable mentions to the Alice in Borderland manga and the Zero Escape visual novel series (especially the 2nd one), though these are not anime (besides the 3 episode Borderland ova)

I enjoyed Kamierabi alot. If 3dcg doesn't bother you, the story is really good. Also loved Mirai Nikki and Hunter exam arc from HxH.

fucking btoom is better atp... this show has been very disappointing. I thought at first that the source would provide a story that might fit the sluggish and heavily stylistic cinematography that did pretty much no favors to gimai seikatsu, but it just happened again. Just 2 incompatible things that aren't really special on their own came together and this show is the result

It's so unremarkable, self-sabotaging and tiresome to watch. The key aspects that would have made it into a memorable watch have been completely discarded, turning it into the anime equivalent of a modern art painting. It reminds me so much of jintai, except that one at least had interesting commentary and a bit of comedy. But the non linear story telling for no good apparent reason, the eye smoldering, headache causing, low contrast bright visuals, just trying so hard to be alternative and different, only to end up being weird.

The anime has very few episodes and only covers a relatively small section of the story. It is a fun little watch for those who're interested or would like an introduction of what's awaiting them.
Therefore, I'd say the manga is by far better. A complete story with interesting characters and a thrilling story full of very risky games, which I'd recommend any time 🔥

There's also a live action yes, which you can watch on Netflix. The first two seasons cover the entirety of the manga's storyline and the third one is more like a Netflix original (though I did spot some inspirations they've taken from the small sequel manga, Alice in Borderland Retry 👀).
Despite some changes they've made throughout this adaption, the live action is a definite must watch too :D

Honestly find myself agreeing with this line of thought with each passing episode. I enjoy differing styles of direction when they contribute to the experience, and there are certain aspects of this direction that I’ve enjoyed, but for the most part each episode has just felt more tedious.

I went and read this too and don’t really understand telling the story out of order - it’s making for a fairly confusing experience at times especially if you are anime only. I feel like this presentation has made a lot of character motivation on Yuki’s part a lot more challenging to discern AND lessened the impact of what happens between her and Mishiro when they meet again.
