Okay, November's almost over, so it's time to start brainstorming a ruleset for the December Tournament.

Let me be frank, we had one or two logistical problems this time around - chiefly difficulties some teams had in scheduling a match, and a number of people who dropped out or went incommunicado, which skewed the bracket and further slowed the Tournament schedule down. I've have some changes I'm planning to implement, but I'm willing to listen to feedback or suggestions.

Firstly, Double Elimination is gone. I like that people can play more matches, but it's just not realistic for a monthly schedule.

Second, Team Tournaments are going to be a bi-monthly event, to allow time for scheduling issues to resolve.

Third, from now on I'd like people to form their own teams. When I assigned them at random, I ended up putting people who wanted to play with people who went incommunicado, and an Australian with a German. I don't have the spare time to interview all of you, so I'm going to require that you find a teammate before you enter teams, so that you can make contact and ensure they won't suddenly bolt.

Fourth, and most importantly, I'm changing the format of how the singles work. I studied up on how a lot of pro tournaments are run, and I found a format potentially applicable to our situation (though this isn't set in stone yet - I welcome ideas). It's called the ladder. Basically what it is is that anyone who enters is placed on a "ladder" with zero points. If they win a match, they gain a point and move up a rung. If they lose a match, they lose a point and move down a rung. At the end of a certain period of time, those who have played a certain number of matches and have a point value of at least 1 are entered into an actual bracket. This system has a couple advantages - mainly, if people did drop off the radar, you could just play others to get your required matches in. Also, it lets people play more free-form instead of having to play every match totally for blood.

Fifth, and very minor: Yoshi's Island Melee is no longer legal, Yoshi's Island Brawl is.

So, those are my thoughts and ideas as the organizer. Now I'd like to hear your thoughts as players.
