Great episode, which showcased the darker and more complex themes of morality and loyalty. Loved the scene with Griffith and the princess, as well as the stare at the end. I think this should set the stage for some good plot developments. Glad I decided to stick with the series so far.

Wow, just a brutal episode emotionally for Guts. We aren't even halfway through but this feels like it will be a huge turning point for the show.

JAW-DROPPING episode. I couldn't believe Guts did that. Griffith is so cunning, and the prophecy seems to be coming true!

What a shitty day for Guts, it's was painful to watch imagining Guts's grief after he killed that kid and many innocent people and also Griffith's words later. But I'm glad that Guts isn't just a killing machine without any feelings.

It seemed off to me that Griffith asked Guts to be the assassin, in the first place. Sure Guts is loyal, but assassinations are supposed to be subtle, and Guts is anything but subtle, of which Griffith is very aware. Griffith is too strategically and tactically competent to have made that sort of decision error; clearly if he actually wanted it to go right, he should have sent Casca. It looks to me like he must be setting up Guts to take the fall, which would also explain Guts' tone of disdain when speaking "Griffith" in the first episode. I guess I'll see where this goes in next episode or so.

I mostly came to this forum to see if anyone else had similar thoughts about that. A few people have, but most are fixated on the young prince being killed. As soon as the showed the prince, I knew that was a red flag, as it was already obvious that Guts would bungle the assassination in some way. ("Dude, you brought the biggest sword in the kingdom with you, and you thought nobody would notice!?!")
