Why can't they go for 26 episodes

Do you have some knowledge of the plot that would indicate that twelve would be insufficient? Many of us are quite uninformed. You'll have to fill us in.

By that reasoning no number of episodes would be sufficient. Really we should just be hoping they leave it open for a second season and don't try to create a conclusion for the story. 12 episodes should probably be enough for the first three or four volumes. When that's all done they can look at the ratings and decide if it would be profitable to pursue this further.

Indeed. This definitely looks like they should be able to keep me coming back for years. Having not read the source material it's hard to say, but this certainly seems like one that will just flatout piss me off if it ends prematurely. Like Ichiban no ushuiro damoau. Still waiting for a decent translation of the LN's. I have a machine translation that's undergone a bit of editing on my hard drive, and periodically I take a crack at it, but it's just not usable :(

Pretty sure with twelve eps though it's got to be a sampler treatment. It's unlikely that they'd be able to get a proper plot that can conclude in 12 eps without completely bastardizing it from straight from the getgo. Plus they seem to have a pretty competent staff lined up so I feel comfortable getting my hopes up.

I hope it goes farther also!

Berserk would be a much better example for ending prematurely.

True, but I meant more in terms of not being able to access the source material to find out how the actual story goes. I can read berserk any time I want, and do so. Ichiban is an example of a story that ended prematurely and that I'm still holding out hopes of a translation for. Maybe it's just me, but I personally don't find it as upsetting when I can just switch from a good anime to a good manga. Soul eater was also like that. Horrible manufactured ending, but hardly traumatic at this point in the process.

This being said I've never actually watched the anime. I occasionally pick up the manga, but even that I didn't start until many years after any of this. I might not have a proper understanding of the issue.
