THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
At this rate every single episode discussion is going to have me praising Anne. Seriously, it's extremely rare to see a character with this much charisma and her way of looking at things is just so genuine it's easy to get caught up in. As far as the other characters, I'm quite liking Marila and Matthew. Particularly Marila's relationship with Anne will be interesting to watch, as frequently the things Anne says seem to shock her such as the prayer scene.

some observations: Facial expressions, despite the dated and restricted animation technique, have been done excellently in every single scene. When Marila talks about Mrs Blewett and when Anne calls her a Gimlet, the expressions on Marila's face clearly tell what she thinks about Mrs Blewett and Anne's comparison.
That scene where Mathew shows her a bookshelf and Anne picks up a book to read, that was a dream sequence very well done.
Again her flights of fancy, and the scenes where her imagination comes alive to express her feelings, very well done. I'm liking both Mathew and Marila. And of course, Anne is so adorable, if I was Marila I would have hugged her at the end.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

Anne's sporadic outbursts of imagination are still cracking me up. I don't know what it is - it's just like a switch suddenly flips as Anne lights up. There's no way I could send her back if she were sent to me.

I certainly have a newfound appreciation for Marilla. It was very shrewd & sensible how she handled the situation with Mrs. Spencer. The prayers segment was absolutely hilarious. It's very seldom that anime actually treats Christianity seriously without mixing Japanese, Shinto elements into it.

What the fuck I cant believe this show is actually living up to its hype. 10/10 for me at this rate, which is something I've never given to this genre. Every episode makes me feel like crying and I love it.

You know a show is good when you get super attached to the main character after just a few episodes.
In this show's case, I can say it is VERY good. I just want to adopt Anne and take care of her, it broke my heart to see her so frightened and sad... At least now she can stay at Green Gables ! Of course she was going to given the title, but I couldn't help but be worried that it would take longer than expected for Marilla to change her mind. I feel truly bad for having judged Marilla. She is harsh but she is a good person. Can we consider her a tsundere ?
Also, Mrs Blewett as a gimlet was priceless. Anne has such a particular imagination.

Reading most of the comments on this thread, and it makes me glad that I'm not the only one enjoying Anne of Green Gables.🥰

I feel so sorry for Anne the entire time she was worried Mrs. Blewett'd adopt her. She looked like an awful woman whom you didn't want to be with the moment you met her!

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!
