two famous composers from two different studios in the red corner we have Maeda Jun, composer for key visual arts, composer for air, parts of kanon, clannad, little busters, and rewrite as well as the angel beats songs, especially the girldemo, also his collaboration with Nagi from supercell was out of this world.
on the blue corner we have Tenmen the composer for Minori works, most famously known for his ef soundtracks, but we can't deny that the ost for Supipara was also quite good, though many over looks it but Tenmen also did the music for Eden, another minori game.

who is the greater composer?

I'd wish I could vote at all here but I'm not knowledgeable about Tenmen's works aside from ef and that one, while suitable for the story, was not exactly varied.

Ah you're right, it's Tenmon. I don't rightfully remember the name too well hence I assumed he wrote it correctly. That said, do you have an actual opinion about the two or you just wandered in to mock the misspelling?

The only Tenmon's works that I've heard are from 5 cm per second. He is quite good in my opinion. I have yet to watch Ef.

Jun Maeda plays an important role in Key's animes and Visual novels. The music played a big part in Key's works such as Clannad to make certain scenes to become really tear jerking. I'm kinda biased towards Jun Maeda because I'm his fan.

I love them both, though in some cases, it's hard to tell who I'm supposed to credit--Jun Maeda or Shinji Orito, since they frequently work together. They are pretty much half and half as far as tracks go for Clannad, which I consider to have the best OST out of any Key work. But Shinji Orito did most of Kanon, so I'd actually probably say that his work is better as far as music goes.

However, Jun does write a lot of Key's shit, but this is a discussion of music, so.

I love Tenmon, but the problem with his works is that there are some noticeable patterns and repetitions. The best has gotta be The Place Promised in Our Early Days, though.

I think Tenmon's music is better than Jun Maeda's. His music is simply more memorable and outstanding, IMO. He just hasn't put out enough. The repetition doesn't help that, either.

Tenmon?

The guy who wrote the soundtrack for 5 Centimeters???

Sorry Jun Maeda. As much respect as I have for you (which is a metric f***ton), NOTHING beats 5 Centimeters' OST. End Theme, Poem of Sky and Sea, every single piece (all 11 of them) in the OST was unforgettable.

Yeah, I really like Tenmon's music.

Same. Plus I didn't really listen to the 5cm/s OST, although what I did hear was beautiful. I have to go with Maeda. But really, this is a forum for something Maeda wrote... Everyone will be biased. 16/3 proves it.

Ask in the 5cm/s forum it'd be the other way. This is not truly accurate.

That's the script. We're talking about the soundtrack here. Shinji Orito and Jun Maeda were two of the five composers for Rewrite. It's not like Maeda left Key or something.

Overall story and most routes were written by Romeo, 2 character routes by Yuuto Tonokawa and an extra one Visual Arts wanted added was written by Ryukishi07.

I misread, my bad. But it's not like Jun Maeda was just a composer anyway.

Orito was never a scriptwriter though. And Maeda was first a composer and then a writer before going back to just composing.

It's better that way for Jun, because it's clear he ran out of ideas.

I heard Jun Maeda QC'd Rewrite though.

he did indeed, Maeda's writing has that theme there he just can't get rid of. supernatural in modern world, car accidents, tragedy reversed by supernatural element. stuff like that.

p.s. kick the can to orito shinji's mortal combat theme in lb,ost.

Honestly Hisaya was more into giving happy endings through magic that Maeda was. Maeda was the one who killed Makoto and all, and he wrote Air which isn't exactly super happy. He felt in the "happy end" theme later on though which is probably why he said he wanted a break. He did actually outright said he kinda ran out of ideas so it's good he's honest instead of making people eat the same thing over and over.

Nice one, you just had to pick both of my most favourite composers and make me pull my hair out deciding which is better. >:

But in all honesty, I love Maeda Jun more as a writer than a composer. While he does write amazing songs, he rarely arranges them, which I thought was a little sad. I feel that the composer should do the arrangement as well so as to get the right mood into the song. Meanwhile, his glory as a music composer is often shared with Orito Shinji, the latter of whom is always the one arranging most of the songs.

On the other hand, Tenmon was amazing in all of minori and Shinkai Makoto's works, combining the brilliance of Western and Eastern music into dreamlike symphonies. And he arranges them amazingly as well. However, most of his songs are ballad-y, and it's rare to hear a more "epic" song from him. But when they do come out, "epic" is really an understatement. #^^#

If you want to know who is best as a "composer", I would have to choose Tenmon.
But Maeda Jun is second to none as a writer.

I think it would be better to compare Hiroyuki Sawano to Maeda Jun than Tenmen.

Yikes, tough call for me. I am a HUGE fan of Jun Maeda...and when I say HUGE, I mean I love pretty much everything I've ever heard him do. Clannad, Angel Beats, and even though I'm three episodes in, I'm so far loving the soundtrack for Little Busters.

As for Tenmon, the only exposure I've had to his music is both ef series. Both were outstanding soundtracks.

Considering how much more exposure I have to Jun Maeda, I have to cast my vote for him. Both are excellent if you ask me, but Jun Maeda has the most memorable music I've ever heard...not even in just anime, I mean EVER.

As composers they are both amazing. I am familiar with a lot of music from both of them, and I actually have quite a few songs from both of them in my playlist.

But as a writer, Jun just did it for me. I didn't really feel as much Tenmon's stuff..I found it fine, but Maeda hit me with masterpiece over masterpiece.

So my vote is for Maeda Jun :)
