| Alexi lies in a pod within the med bay, her fever decreasing but her breathing unsteady. Cyn continues to inform the rest of the fleet about the planet being done, organizing the people who are coming down for construction. Zaine stands in the ship's mess hall, idly eating from lack of something to do. |
| Brink stands up and watches the levels on the pod. "Is that right?" "I never thought it would be so boring now." Alan says as she watches Zaine eat. |
| "Neither did I," Zaine says, taking another bite out of his fruit. "It's kind of...disappointing." Alexi breathes fast in short bursts. The pod beeps and then releases a gas in the chamber, returning her breathing to normal. |
| "What should we do??" Alan asks while thinking. Brink watches her chest relax and sits back down. "I wonder if she will wake up.." |
| "I don't know," Zaine replies. "There's nothing to do really, at least not until construction begins." He thinks. "Brinks over there, Cyn's at the bridge, everyone else is doing what they want..." |
| "We can always play a game or something?" Alan places her head in her hand. |
| "A game huh?" Zaine says. "Like what? I haven't played many games." Alexi coughs, and startles herself into waking. The pod beeps again and opens itself, the sound of her coughing diminished by the hissing of the pod's doors opening. |
| "Are there any games you played as a kid on Phanaphos?" Alan asks. "A-Alexi! Hey are you ok?" Brink jumps up and makes his way to her. |
| "Well, not really," Zaine replies. I got into stealing competitions a lot and fought quite a bit, but never really played games. No one really to play games with." Alexi covers her mouth with her hand to keep from coughing on him. She holds up her other hand to keep him back. Once she stops coughing, she breathes shakily. "I'll be fine..." Alexi stands up, wiping the blood off her hand onto a piece of cloth. |
| "Hmm...do you know any songs?" Alan asks. "We need to get a grip of this.." Brink says to himself. "Are you sure?" |
| "Songs? Like singing...?" Zaine thinks. "Well, I can sing, but they're mostly hymns from the church. Other than that though..." He sighs. "I'm sorry Alan. The only thing I'm good at is metallurgy and hunting, and neither of those are very entertaining." "Yeah," Alexi moves shakily to a stool by the other machines. "I'll be fine." She sits there a moment, then starts taking the plates out to look at them. |
| "I got an idea! Alan exclaims. "We could play hide the stone!" "They seem to be doing ok..." Brink says, observing her. |
| "Hide the stone?" Zaine asks. "Is that a search and find game?" "What are you talking about?" Alexi asks, tired. She looks awful: pale, cheeks flushed, and shaky. She slides a plate under an observer and waits for it to analyze it. |
| Alan takes out a tiny stone from her pocket. "Hand me some cups." "Idunno I guess..." Brink studies her concerned. |
| "Alright," Zaine hands her a stack of five cups. "You're not making much sense you know," Alexi replies. "And quit staring at me would you? I'm not display." |
| "Now let me hide it and..." Alan places the pebble under a cup. "Ready? I'm gonna move them and you have to guess which one it's in." "Sorry, I'll stop." Brink looks away. "Should I get Cyn or...?" |
| "That seems easy," Zaine says. "I'm ready." Alexi sighs. "No, no. Don't bother him for this. Look, I'm sorry. I just..." She sighs. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be so...secluded. No, that's no the word. I trust you Brink, I know I can rely on you and I'm sorry I don't do it. And I know I should talk about things more, but it's just hard. Cyn was right." She looks at her hands shaking and sighs. "I'm sorry..." |
| Alan moves the cups around really fast in weird patterns for a moment then stops. Brink puts a hand on her shoulder."No..don't be sorry. I do think you should push that limit a little though, practice. Take small steps." |
| "Um...."Zaine looks to each cup, thinking. "This one!" He points at the third cup. "I want to," Alexi says, breathing harder. "But...It's just difficult. And I should be sorry. More than that though, I should be grateful. Grateful that you still stick by me even though--" Her coughing stops her from speaking. "...shit..." Alexi curls forward, her hand to her mouth, the other steadying herself on the counter. "Even though I'm nowhere near perfect." |
| Alan lifts it up to expose nothingness."Pick again!" Brink gives a slight smile."It's not about being perfect, it's about having a beautiful soul." |
| Zaine looks carefully at the cups in front of him. "How about that one?" He points to the second cup. "Hmph," Alexi scoffs. "I'm pretty far from that too." She switches plates and observes the other. "Well, I think I've found enough of a sample to use in making an antitoxin. I can't guarantee it'll work, but it's better than this slow death bullshit." She sets a few tools on the table, tubes, and plates down, the glassware clinking as her hands shake. "You mind doing this for me? I wouldn't get very far if I did it." |
| Alan lifts the second cup to reveal the stone. "Yaaay!" "Of course." Brink says. "What do you need me to do?" He takes the glassware from her and sets them on the table. |
| "Yes!" Zaine exclaims. "Well that was easy!" Cyn walks into the mess hall and spots Zaine and Alan. He joins them at their table. "What you two up to?" "Just playing this cup game Alan know," Zaine answers. "I'll walk you through the steps," Alexi says. She starts giving him instructions while he works for her. |
| "Aw! No fair!" Alan says as she playfully throws it at him. "Hi Cyn!" Brink follows suit, listening to her carefully, yet still carrying the concern in the back of his mind. |
| Zaine chuckles and catches the cup. "Hi Alan," Cyn says. "You two look like you're enjoying yourselves." "Yup." Zaine replies. "What about you? Thought you'd be doing something official right now." "Have been," Cyn takes out his holopad and waves it in front of him. "Been communicating with the base, giving orders and such." "Isn't that Alexi's job?" "She's a busy with something else right now." Alexi continues to give Brink instructions from her stool by the counter. She flings the image on the monitor around, observing it while he works. |
| "So what's next?" Alan asks him, not looking up from the cups. Brink looks over briefly then carries on with the work. "How's it looking?" |
| "Well, I suppose we'll start building here," Cyn replies. "Once the probes are done examining the planet, we'll know the best spots to start up towns. We'll decide who goes where and what we build then get started on it." "There's a lot of work ahead of us," Zaine says. "Starting from scratch isn't easy." "We're not exactly starting from scratch, but yeah, it is a lot of work." "You're doing great," Alexi answers. "It's going to need to incubate for a while, so place it under the hood and take a break. We can check if it works once it's done." She heads out of the med bay but stops in the doorway. "I'm going to go lay down for a bit. If you need me I'll be in my cabin." |
| Alan nods in agreement with them both. "What do you think will stay at the station?" "Okay, if you need me, just get me on my CommU." Brink gives her a smile. |
| Cyn shrugs. "Everything that's there and anyone who wants to stay. Nothing from there is coming down here except what's needed to build and the peoples to do it." "Nothing?" Zaine questions. "You aren't bringing anything down here?" "Nothing worth bringing down. The station will start to circle the planet and act as a moon in a way but other than that..." Alexi nods and heads to her cabin. Once there she collapses onto the bed, feeling exhausted and weak. "This sucks..." |
| "Interesting." Alan replies. |
| Cyn's holopad beeps at him. "Oh. Looks like the probes are done." He stands. "Better get back to work I guess. A lot of information to send out and people to direct." "Need help?" Zaine asks. "Nah, just keep playing your little cup game." Cyn heads back to the bridge of the ship. Alexi stares up at the ceiling of her cabin. "If this antitoxin doesn't work...what do I do?" "Oh it won't work dear," a familiar voice calls from the doorway. She hears the clink of the lock. "You need something else for what's ailing you." Alexi starts to get up from her bed, but the man is on her in a second. She looks up at him in disbelief. "What are you doing here Crux!?" |
| "Hmpf, I wanna help more." Alan says frustrated and bored. Brink walks down to the mess hall once he is finished with his work in the med bay. He sits next to the couple. |
| "I know how you feel," Zaine assures Alan. He greets Brink as he sits with them. "What's up Brink? You don't know of anything we can help with do you?" Crux chuckles. "I can't just let my little songbird die now can I?" He laughs at the surprise on Alexi's face. "That little serum you're brewing downstairs won't be of much help either. What you've got can't be cured that way." "What are you talking about? It's just a virus," Alexi says. She attempts to struggle, but is too weak. "Oh no. It's ancient. Only a few people can withstand it." He smiles. "Me being one. But fear not, I've come to help you." "Yeah right," Alexi scoffs. "You'd never help me." "Tsk tsk love. Everything I do is for you." Crux says this with such honest conviction that it's almost believable. |
| "It's all settled right now, really." Brink shrugs. |
| Zaine sighs. "I'm so bored now! I wanna do something." "Just hold still for a moment," Crux says. "What are you going to do?" Alexi asks. "Hush now love. Let me concentrate." Crux's figure starts to shimmer and change as Alexi watches. Like a phantom or a shadow, he appears to have lost his solidarity. "Perfect." "What the hell are you?" Alexi whispers. He smiles. "All in time love." Crux moves, like a mist, and melts into her. |
| "Hmm,...what's something to do?" Alan asks. {wtf....?} |
| "Both Cyn and Alexi are busy..." Zaine thinks out loud. "Brink! Entertain us." Alexi sits up from her bed and stretches. "Well this is an odd feeling." Her mouth moves on its own. "Can't say I've ever been a woman before." (What have you done Crux!? Why can't I move?) She chuckles. "I believe the word for it in this language is control? No, possession. Yes, it's possession." (What!? You're possessing me...?) "Precisely love," Alexi's body stands on its own and heads to the elevator. "Now in the meantime, shall we play?" (Don't! Just stay up here. Give me back my body.) "Tut tut love. I can't do that until I've taken care of this problem for you. This is for you." Alexi hears herself laugh. "In the meantime, I'm going to have some fun." |
| "Fuck that, I've got way too much on my mind." Brink shakes his head in protest. Alan pouts "Aw come on..." |
| "All the more reason to entertain us then!" Zaine exclaims. "Forget about what your worries for a minute and relax. You're too high strung man." Alexi heads down the elevator. She finds Cyn on the bridge, playing with one of his daggers. "Hey Cyn, can you help me with something?" "You're awake?" Cyn asks. "How do you feel?" "Fine," She responds. "There's something I need your help with." "Sure. Anything." "Follow me then." Alexi leads him to the elevator, then down to storage. The two pass by Brink and the couple on the way and Alexi waves to them. |
| "Yeah, yeah. What do you want? I'm not entertaining." Brink asks as he waves. Jackson plops down next to the rest of the crew in the mess hall. |
| "Jackson!" Zaine greets him as he sits. "You're commanding officer here won't entertain us. The task now falls on you! We are all bored! What will you do to solve this dilemma?" Alexi leads Cyn to the back of the storage room. "So what's this about?" Cyn asks. "Hey, Cyn why are you alive?" Alexi asks him. "What?" The question catches him off guard, he takes a step back. "What are you talking about?" "Why are you alive?" She asks innocently, stepping towards him. "You can't protect anyone. You only cause them to die." "Alexi...What are you saying...? I..." Cyn holds up his hands in front of him, backing up. |
| "Uhm,...I have food?" Jackson pulls out a few candy bars from his pocket. |
| Zaine stares at the candy as if it were a lost treasure. "You win. My boredom is gone." (Crux stop! Don't say anymore) Alexi chuckles at Cyn's expression. "It's your fault father and mother died Cyn. It wasn't enough that your own mother died. You took mine from me!" "No! Alexi! That's not true!" Cyn backs up again, now against the wall. "Liar," she says with venom. "You were jealous of me, of my family. So you took them from me. To make me just like you." "...No." Cyn whispers. "It's not like that..." "Your father was right. You should have died when he shot you." She takes the dagger off his belt and examines the blade. "You don't deserve the life you have." |
| Jackson chuckles. "Take one." Brink continues to stare off into space. "I should check on the captain." Alan takes a candy bar and noms on it. "I'm sure she is fine." |
| Zaine opens his and revels in the first bite. "Cyn's with her so I'm sure she's fine." "Alexi..." Cyn says quietly, tears in his eyes. "I'm sorry...I'm sorry." "Sorry won't bring them back Cyn," Alexi replies coldly. "I hate you Cyn. I've always hated you for this." She watches with a smile as he sinks to the floor, tears running down his cheeks. (Crux! Stop! Stop this!) Alexi crouches in front of him. "There's only one way to gain forgiveness." She slides the dagger into his hand and closes his fingers around it. "Make the right choice Cyn." Alexi turns around, laughing softly, and walks back to the elevator. |
| Brink shakes his head. "I'll be back." He gets up and walks to the storage bay. "Captain?" Alan takes a bite and sighs happily. "This is good Mr. Jackson." |
| Zaine's in his own heaven, happily eating his candy. "Brink!" Alexi exclaims, surprised. "What are you doing down here?" Cyn sits in the back of the storage bay, behind the boxes, staring blankly at the blade of the dagger in his hand. Tears still run down his cheeks. |
| Brink walks a bit closer, examining the situation. "Cyn..." He takes a moment to think. "You're not Alexi." Jackson smiles at their enjoyment. |
| "Brink, what are you talking about?" Alexi asks. (You're done now Crux. Game over!) "Candy is a rare treat where I'm from," Zaine says. |
