| Brink looks at him confused. "I'm not drunk, she's drunk." Alan giggles, standing with Zaine. |
| "No one is drunk here." Alexi says seriously. "Now let's go to the museum!" Zaine shakes his head and shrugs. "Alright alright. Calm down there Captain, we're going." The group head over to the museum in the city. It's a short, stately building with a large sign in the front advertising the latest addition to the museum. |
| Jackson opens the door for the group. "Shall we?" |
| "Why thank you, Jackson," Alexi says as she walks into the building, followed by the rest of the group. The interior is simple, and they now stand within a reception area for purchasing tickets to enter. Beyond are the exhibit rooms. A map on the wall by the counter shows where each exhibit is. Alexi walks over to the counter and purchases tickets for everyone. "So the Kavardan room is..." Zaine looks at the map then heads into the museum. "This way..." Alexi walks aimlessly behind Zaine, looking at the art on the walls. |
| "This is you're moment." Alan says hopeful as she holds Zaine's hand. |
| Alexi walks past him into the exhibit. "So this is the stuff from back then huh?" There are display cases lining the left and right walls, filled with odd, perfectly shaped creations. Some spheres, but most are T-shaped, no bigger than a handgun. Each of these are onyx, and black as night. The only color in the room comes from the tapestry on the back wall, a symbol woven of unknown meaning, and two paintings hanging to each side of it. "Just a bunch of dark shapes," Alexi says. "This is it then?" Zaine walks into the small room. He scans the display cases, staring at the T-shaped things. "Look like sword hilts...and those are just balls." |
| "Maybe they have some button or something?" Alan suggests. |
| Alexi walks over to the tapestry and looks at the paintings on either side. One depicts a King, the other a Queen and her sons and daughter. "You know," Alexi says, "They say that the royal family were revered as gods and goddesses." "Really?" Zaine walks over to look at the paintings. "Yeah, they say that they were--" Alexi stops. "Whoa Zaine? You alright?" Zaine stares at the painting, tears welling up in his golden eyes. |
| "Zaine?" Alan squeezes his hand tightly. (Is that..?) Brink stares at the picture as well. |
| "That's..." Zaine shakes his head. "That can't be right. I would remember something like that right?" "Zaine, what is it?" Alexi asks. "That's my father." He points to the woman in the other painting. "And my mother...that means that those are my brothers and sister..." |
| "How can that be? It was like 200 years ago." Brink says, studying the painting still. Jackson cuts in "Studies have shown that cryogenic pods could have been a technology in old Kavarda." |
| "Sparrow did say that he found Zaine in a pod," Alexi thinks out loud. "Maybe..." Zaine walks closer to the painting, studying it. "I had siblings..." Tears fall from his eyes. "But why...?" |
| "It must have been during the war. Are you sure they're...? Jackson asks. "Look at him, it's like a mirror." Brink assures him. "Shhh!" Alan says, holding Zaine. "Do you need some time alone..?" |
| Alexi moves the Jackson and Brink away from the couple. "I doesn't seem like it could be possible, but who knows? The technology they had back then far surpassed our own, and he does look just like the people in the painting." "No...No, it's fine," Zaine swipes at his eyes. "Sorry..." He puts an arm around Alan. "Don't leave me alone right now. Please..." |
| "Of course." Alan moves in front of him and holds him tight, as if to keep him up. The others stand back and watch. (Fuckin' hell) Brink says in his head. |
| Zaine stares at the painting, then his eyes move to the tapestry. "That's the symbol on my pendant. Hey Alexi, what's this symbol mean?" "Huh? Oh, that signifies the royal family," Alexi answers. "Or at least that's what we were taught." "I see." Zaine returns to looking at the paintings, a slight headache coming on. "I think I'm starting to remember some things." |
| "Is it...okay? Should we continue?" Jackson asks. "We can always go back to the ship." |
| "Maybe this wasn't a good idea?" Alexi questions. "No, I think this is fine," Zaine says. He turns his back on the paintings and stares at the cube in the center of the room. "I don't remember everything yet, but I want to." "Well, maybe you just need another push," Alexi suggests. "Like what?" "Who knows? Maybe a smell or a word or touching something?" |
| "We will help you find it, love." Alan assures him. Brink and Jackson nod in agreement. |
| "These are from back then right?" Zaine points to the artifacts lining the walls and the cube. "Couldn't I just--" "This is a museum," Alexi interrupts. "You can't just go around touching things in here." (Of course...if Cyn were here, we could just steal it...) |
| Brink looks around "I'll cover you." |
| "Cover?" Zaine asks. Alexi laughs. "I wouldn't be good at my job if I couldn't do this." She takes out her holopad and types. "What are you doing?" "Shutting down the security systems to this room remotely." "You can do that!?" Zaine exclaims, surprised. "There's lots of things I can do, Zaine." Alexi smiles. |
| "Basic hack." Jackson says looking over his own holopad. Brink continues to guard the hall. |
| A whirring sound is heard as the fields in front of the paintings and around the artifacts disable. "System's occupied now," Alexi says. "Go ahead and do your thing, Zaine." "Thanks," Zaine looks around the room. "Better to be something smaller..." He walks to the display cases. His hands hover over the objects, which glow faintly as he gets close. Zaine grabs one of the T-shaped objects. "Good," Alexi says from behind him. "Let's get out of here then. C'mon!" He nods, his headache worse now. "Right." |
| Jackson reverts the signal of the system as Brink waves them all to the exit. |
| The group walk out of the museum, the object in Zaine's possession. His headache continues to grow worse. "Well what now?" Zaine asks, a bit strained. "Did you want to see your family or something like that Jackson?" "Maybe you should go back to the ship, Zaine," Alexi says. "You don't look to good." Zaine shakes his head, which does nothing to change his piercing headache. "No, I'm fine." (My head feels like it's going to explode.) |
| "Sure?" Brink asks. "I can visit my family on my time, don't worry." Jackson assures him. |
| "Alright, let's get you back to the ship," Alexi says. (And maybe into the med bay...) Zaine nods. "Sorry..." The lines on the T-shaped object glow a brighter blue. Alexi watches it. (It's like it's resonating with him...What the hell is that?) |
| "It's okay~!" Alan assures him with a smile. |
| Zaine nods to Alan, which only reminds him of his raging headache. "Let's go then," Alexi says, shepherding Zaine to start moving. The group heads back to the ship and arrive at the Aurora about ten minutes later. "Hey," Cyn greets them. "You guys are back early." "Yeah, I guess," Alexi replies. Zaine immediately heads to the cabins, ready to sit down. |
| "I'll go help him get settled." Alan says before she follows. Brink and Jackson walk towards Alexi and Cyn. |
| "What's with him?" CYn asks. Alexi shrugs. "He's...having quite the day." Zaine sits on the bed, his head in his hands. The object lays next to him on the bed. |
| Alan walks in and shuts the door. "Why don't you nap? I'll hide the artifact for you if you want. I'll save it for when you're ready." "Seems he has quite a history." Brink explains vaguely. |
| Zaine sighs. "Maybe I should take a nap." He looks to the object, which has ceased glowing since he set it down. "My heads a mess right now..." "Oh yeah?" Cyn says. "Don't worry about that right now," Alexi says. "We don't even know if that's true. There's no proof after all." |
| "I wish I could help." Alan says as she stands in front of him, holding his head close to her chest. "Can I get you something...?" She kisses the top of his head, softly. "That picture was enough, if you ask me." Brink says. |
| "Thanks Alan," Zaine says. "But unless you can give me something to make my headache go away, I'm fine." "Probably," Alexi agrees. "But he wanted something else." "What are you guys talking about?" Cyn asks, confused. "Zaine. He's starting to remember his past." "Well, that's a good thing right? He wanted to know." "I'm not so sure." Alexi crosses her arms. "It doesn't seem to be very pleasant." |
| "There might be something to calm you down." Alan says as she pulls away and takes out her sai. She begins to cut a small vein in her arm, water spilling from it. "My life water is stronger than the water we create, only a Saain possesses this." She holds her arm out to him. "Sometimes the stress of such an event can cause physical trauma." Jackson explains. |
| "Alan!" Zaine exclaims. "What are you doing? Don't hurt yourself!" Both Alexi and Cyn stay quiet, thinking. |
| "It's okay." Alan says with a light wince. "Just...see if it will help." Brink looks over at the two. "Hmm?" |
| "Are you sure?" Zaine searches her face. "I don't want to do something that will hurt you." "It's nothing," both Cyn and Alexi say in unison. |
| "You can't hurt me, Zaine. You make me happy." Alan gives a weak smile. "Please, be okay. I can help you. I hate to see you in pain." "Oh." Brink too begins to think. |
| "I know that," Zaine says. He pulls her down onto his lap. "But I think I'll be fine in a little bit. Don't worry so much about me." "Well..." Alexi says, breaking the silence. "Where to now?" "They must have gotten some progress done with the building by now," Cyn offers. "Think they'll be done with the first town yet?" "Maybe. With the tech we have, it wouldn't take long to set up a temporary town." "Should we go back then?" Alexi asks. |
| "If you think so." Alan looks into his eyes deeply. "I can't help worrying." She lays her head on his shoulder and begins to kiss his neck softly. "Even if they are almost finished, I'm sure they will want more time." Brink slightly protests. |
| "I know that," Zaine strokes her hair. "I'm sorry I worry you. I don't mean to." "True..." Alexi nods. "I don't want to be in their way either." "Then what shall we do?" Cyn asks. |
| "No, it's not your fault." Alan shakes her head as she nuzzles him close. "Hmm, maybe we should avoid the historical stuff for a while, and head out somewhere fun. Let them do what newly weds do." Brink suggests with a wink. |
| "I know but still," Zaine holds her close. "I still feel bad. You know, now I'm not really sure if I want to remember everything. It scares me to not know." Alexi smiles. "I think they've already been doing that stud." Cyn chuckles. "Well, there's a Galacta-Hut on this planet right? Why not go there." He avoids looking at Alexi's death glare. "There's plenty of fun to be had there." |
| "Seeing your eyes leaking, I am scared for you. To know you're family is..." Alan grabs his chin and faces him towards her. "Just remember, if you don't want to, I'm your family too." She smiles. "As long as we can drink and relax, I will go. Alexi?" Brink looks to her. |
| "Alan..." Zaine looks into her eyes and smiles. "Thank you." He laughs. "Leaking? That's what you call it?" He laughs again. Cyn spins Brink around. "Perfect! Then let's go! Right now." He can almost feel Alexi's disapproving gaze boring into his back. "Don't even get her started Brink," He whispers to him. "Let's just go. She'll come too." |
| "What is it then?" Alan asks confused. "Uhm,...okay." Brink says, following him. |
| "Well most people call it crying," Zaine says, his laughter subsiding. "But leaking is fine." Alexi follows behind them reluctantly, dragging Jackson with her. The four of them arrive at Galacta-Hut, the building glowing with neon and the sound of a bass thumping from within. |
