To incoming new members...do you actually buy all the comics you read, or do you download them?

For me, its a mix. My budget's tight right now, so I buy 7 comics a month (which is a huge stretch), then download the rest. Of course, if the budget weren't tight, I'd probably switch to trades-only anyway.

What she said. $21 bucks a month empties out my pockets of disposeable cash.

I typically download to try out and pick up the TPB of anything I like, I'm not really a stickler about reading things when they are released immediately.

I used to do that. I would buy 10 or so issues every Wednesday. But then the economy bottomed out, gas prices shot up, and I just couldn't afford it anymore. And of course right after that was when all the huge stuff happened, Civil War and Infinate Crisis. Currently I have a collection of over 1000 comics. Hopefully once I get a job I can afford it again.

I just prefer holding it in my hand. It's the same reason I buy paperback books instead of downloading e-books. I do have to admit, I respect the technology and admire the initiative.

The only e-books I download are my textbooks, they're just so damn expensive. But I'd have to agree with your reason, it's nice to have something you can hold if you truly love it.

It's just not the same feeling looking at it on a screen as holding it and turning the pages by hand.

Not to mention the fact that most e-books cost the same as paperback, which makes no sense because the companies save money on paper and electrons are free.

I do agree with you Kurisu86. Also, another thing I like is the smell that the old comics have...it's just...I don't know how to explain it, but I really like that smell of old, aging paper.

You should work on that paper fetish man. :D

Anyway, I meant downloads from places like Z-Cult or whatever. Mostly, no company has decent download services available. Marvel has one, but the key word is "decent". I could go on and on about its flaws, but in the end the problem is that they still want you to buy it the old-fashioned way.

I spend more or less $150 in comicbooks every month. However, since there's always a lot of stuff I'd like to read, and I'm cynical enough to download anime, l also dowload a lot of comicbooks, too. Specially, I download the first issues of new books that I'm not sure I will like, but seem interesting to me. Also, I download stuff that I consider awful, but it's a guilty pleasure to read and see how bad it is. The most recent example must be Countdown.

However, if I like them, I'm pretty sure I'd end up buying them eventually, even if it's pretty expensive. For example, I downloaded all the Starman run, but since I really love it, I'm planning on buying the hardcovers that will be out soon.

I buy and download. It depends where the series is going. I tend to buy the best story arcs in the comics and download the rest. I don't like wasting money on something I won't read more than twice.

I do have a ton of comics. I keep them organized in milk crates and pile them up in my closet.

Buy. I've never been a big fan of reading things on the computer, except for things which can't be read elsewhere. I don't really like dowloading static visuals cause then you have to worry about quality and that crap. Plus, reading outside is just awesome. ^_^

I download the most of my comics, because I live in Belgium and it's hard to get comics around here. And there pretty expensive because of the import taxes.

I download a ton, and buy the ones I like the most. My collection on the computer is huuuuge but you really can't beat sitting back on the couch and turning pages of the comic book. It has to do with the paper quality, I think. I've never been able to say I like reading manga irl more than on the computer, but I definitely feel that way about comics.

Recently however, I started reading some comics using CDisplay Fitted-Width on my boyfriend's 52" LCD... Holy crap. I might have to rethink the paper superiority thing. That was pretty awesome.

I buy all my comics, which has led to me having several comic boxes full of them. Though that's not to say I don't download any comics, but the few comics I do download are the ones that I've been unable to find, or the ones I'm unwilling to shell out copious amounts of cash for. I downloaded a lot of the old Deadpool stuff just because the place I work hasn't gotten the old run in yet, but they're on order

I do a little of each, but mostly buy. There's a comic shop right next to my school, and we have open campus, so I go there whenever I can. =D I buy certain monthlies, but usually I just wait for the TBP versions since they're cheaper, and easier to keep up with. I'm OCD, so if I start a series, I have to get every issue. Therefore the TBPs are good for me. But if I'm not really interested in something, or it's Marvel-I'm totally one-sided on DC, except for the SpiderMan Loves Mary Jane series, Nyx, and Runaways-I'll read it in the store. And my school's library has really good comics, too, surprisingly enough.

So far I've mainly downloaded comics. The only thing I've bought has been Watchmen. Once I have a source of income again, I'm planning on buying a few of the series I really enjoy. Definitely going to pick up Y: The Last Man and The Walking Dead.

I buy what's worth it(or as much of what's worth it as I can), and I download anything else that seems remotely interesting or may have an impact on other titles I'm reading. I also buy a good bit of HC/TPB collections, preferring the omnibus format if available.

As my money is pretty limited, I download the first couple of issues to see how the series is. If I like it enough, I buy it, unless it's unavailable.
I hate reading stuff on the computer... And it's always good to buy them because they make more if they sell well (something most people don't understand)

Both... I buy what I can find & afford and download the rest... around here that unfortunately means that unless its a Disney comic or a well-known graphic novel then chances are I can't find it at all... and importing is just too much of a hassle.

I feel that same way. Just something about comics feel so much better when its in your hands. But I do download alot of comics and buy what I like which means I download around 50 comics to every 1 I buy. Its just cost to much to buy them, being in college doesnt help either.

I envy you... I can't help it, if I like something I just NEED to buy it. Maybe even stop downloading the series and start reading them only in the paper instead of the monitor and the curiosity can go to hell. Once I start reading something in the paper, I can't continue reading it in the screen.

I'm honest: I never download comics.

It's not easy to get comic in Europe.
So you've buy them by online shops.
I've to pay 3,5 $ more than the Americans do.

I'm happy to buy comic in USA. BUT my parents say, I'm to old to read comics xD

I buy most of my comics. Sometimes I go to the library to read comics, but they have few of them ...
I buy more mangas than comics, because they are cheaper :x

I purchase all mine or read them in the store, I spend so much at my local comics shop that they don't mind if I read a couple without buying them first. But yeah it is expensive, it generally runs me a max of $20-25 a month and that's only if they have specials like The Boys current Highland Laddie miniseries. Of course the only series I'm buying are The Boys, Kill Shakespeare, House of Mystery, iZombie, and the quarterly Creepy. Sometimes I'll see something that catches my fancy for a little while and spend some more on that but generally it's those five.

I have never downloaded simply because I can't read off a screen for too long and I'm a purist when it comes to comics, I won't even bother to read the trades, I have to have the issues. Yeah I know, it's not cost efficient at all or space efficient but we all have our vices.
