The Seven Sins in FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood were some of my favorite villans in anime series. This is mostly due to how they represtent their sins in a very interesting way. This topic is not really a theory, it is more some sort of question to you guys; which do you think is the most dangerous sin in real life?

Well... if you envy someone, you are constantly trying to better them or even harm them.... there's like hatred.

True, but I think that wrath is a lot easier turned into violence than envy.

My reasoning for choosing wrath was this:

Lust mainly harms yourself (unless you are into bad or illegal things). For most people they would get a bad social status and maybe some deceases but most likely not much more.

Sloth also mainly harms yourself. (And possibly the wellfare state / social care system if your country has one.)

Greed doesn't have to end up being bad. If you get your stuff in legal ways it should be yours to deal with it as you please. If keeping it is your thing I wouldn't see an issue with it, so greed too mainly harms yourself (if it even does so.)

Envy doesn't have to be wanting to be better, it's wanting to have what someone else has. This can indeed turn into hatred and might make you harm someone, but I don't think that it'll happen easy. Envy is most often part of feeling 'less' than the person you envy and that might prevent confrontation, at least in a direct or exposed way.

Pride is (according to Aristotle) more often a good thing than a sin. It is mostly the christian interpretation that sees this as a sin. Being a christian myself; I do have to admit that I agree with Aristotle on this one. Pride can be a very good thing if you are proud of the right things. When you are pride of the achievements you got in life you are more stimulated to keep it and when you haven't made any you are more likely to make them. Pride can be a very usefull motivating factor when used for the right things.

Gluttony too mainly harms oneself.

But wrath; wrath is always focused on someone. When you feel like someone did something so bad to you that you cannot help but want to do something bad to them, you can start a cirlce of wrath. This is often seen in tribal situations but even in war. When one person kills another, his family may kill him, that family may kill the other family, and so on. I think wrath can escalate into something big and bad the easiest. Therefore I also think that wrath can leas to hatred easier than envy.

I guess that makes sense, but envy comes across as being more sinful because it's against someone quite directly

I'd say that warth is way more directly against someone.

You often envy someone for having somenething that you don't have (Items, money, friendships, talents and stuff like that) but only in the most severe cases you envy someone as a whole (you actually wished you were that person.)

Wrath however, can only be against a person or a group of persons. In that way it is against people more directly (and also against someone).

Wrath is not petty though.... envy is just ridiculous yet we all do it :)
