| Strong production values. The first colorful animated film made by the Japanese, simply have the highest quality animation, beautiful colors, good story ... Amazing that in 1958 they produced something of this level ... Good movie 7/10 |

| Well, that sure was okay. Animation was stellar, and whether it's due to how old and degraded the film was when this anime was restored, or by intent, the strong red and blue color bias throughout the whole thing was pretty pleasing to look at. I didn't feel much emotion watching this, but I also didn't feel bored, so it's higher than a 5 out of 10, but I can't say it's much more than that. Also, the monk genuinely seem to care about the kid, and was just doing what he thought was right. I think he made for a pretty good pseudo-villain. |
