So, 28th is almost here and I'd like to know your opinions about the ceremony. What do you guys think of the movies? Who do you think will win and who do you think should win? I don't take the oscar very seriously for obvious reason, but it is fun to watch and discuss it nonetheless.
I think Spotlight will win best picture although my favorite is Mad Max. The indication that bothered me the most was The Martian which was in my opinion okayish at best.
I still have to watch some movies with nominated performances, although I'm almost sure Dicaprio (although I preferred Cranstron) and Brie Larson (although I prefer Blanchett) will win. Anyway, I'd love to hear your opinions and such.

What I want to win:
Best Picture: Room or Mad Max
Best Actor: Leo
Best Actress: Brie Larson
Best Director: George Miller
Best Supporting Actor: Christian Bale
Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Jason Leigh
Best Original Screen Play: Straight outta Campton
Best animated: Anything that isn't inside out

I think spotlight will win best picture because it's the typical oscar winner. Don't think that's Leo's best performance, thought it was more of the same in the last couple of years but I don't think the other nominee is better, and I think Leo should win a oscar, it's a long time coming, previous years there was always an actor that overshadowed him I don't think that's the case this year.

I love Micheal Fassbender but I really don't want Steve Jobs to be his first oscar, like really..
I think it's time animated picture went for something that isn't diseny, pixar, dreamworks. I also happen to not like inside out.

Frankly from the best movies choices I think Room is the best one. I really liked Mad Max but I didn't think it was brilliant. The Revenant is pretty good but again I think it wasn't brilliant, and I think it was weak in it's revenge plot. The survival of Leo's character is what's really great about the movie imo.

My guess

Best Picture: The Revenant
Best Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio
Best Actress: Brie Larson
Best Director: Alejandro G. Inarritu
Best Supporting Actor: Sylvester Stallone
Best Supporting Actress: Alicia Vikander
Best Original Screen Play: Bridge Of Spies

Hoping Mad Max pull off the upset and win best picture.

Predictions:
Best Picture: The Big Short
Lead Actor: Leo in The Revenant
Lead Actress: Cate Blanchett
Supporting Actor: Mark Ruffalo (?)
Supporting Actress: tough call...a lot of people really love the performances in Carol, so I'll give it to Rooney Mara here too
Animated Film: Inside Out, MAYBE Anomalisa
Cinematography: The Revenant
Directing: maybe Mad Max

Haven't really seen much of the films nominated, trying to piece together some of the vibes people are giving off.

Sadly. It's even more overrated than Up. Although I was satisfied with most of the choices. I just think that Carol should have been nominated instead of The Martian, the kid from Room should've been nominated AND won and of course, Anomalisa should've won as best animated movie.

carol > the martian definitely, but has less general appeal i guess. anomalisa as best animated also but animated movie has always been a kids' thing - waking life didn't get nominated either and historically besides like, persepolis? chico and rita? miyazaki movies, maybe? dunno.

It's like a joke (and I really don't understand). If you really want to give a GLORIOUS OSCAR to Leo, then I wish you'd do that in his other performances. This was -- in my opinion -- one of his worst performances ever, but it's like we should give it to him no matter what mentality plays a crucial role here.

I liked him in the movie. For what he was trying to achieve I think pretty he pretty much succeeded, although I thought Cranston and Fassbender's performances were more dynamic.

We're not thinking in the same way, I think :) But I understand where are you coming from.

I generally don't like Leo, also. His carbon copy acting style really irritates me, (or maybe I'm feeling this way). It feels like, almost all of his performances are the same. I can't see the difference between his good or bad performances, or any other characterization and such. Don't feel like he acts.

Also, I'm not interested in Oscar. So, I really don't care whether he wins or not. Just wanted to participate in the topic :) But really don't think, this performance deserves an Oscar, though.

I agree that Leo performances in the last couple of years seem identical. But he can act. Watch other films like Catch me if you can.

I think he should have won the Oscar because he didn't really have competition this year.

Have you seen Jobs? I felt his performance was much more real and genuine. Bryan Cranston was also really good. I'm honestly just happy that Stallone lost as supporting. Most overrated performance last year.

I did. I commented above how I didn't want that performance to be Fassbender's first oscar. Didn't think it was good. I love Bryan Cranston as much as the next guy but his Trumbo didn't stand out that much to me, not close to the level of Walter White.

Agree completely. I think he shouldn't have been even nominated. I was genuinely baffled at the people who praised his performance, felt like I was missing something. Because his rocky was not special, nor was the movies as whole. Felt bland most of the time and predictable.

*i think leo most rule was for tragic and temper character in decades of his career, compare to other actor
