Lmao I've actually never heard of this until I watched Gin no Saji, and oh dear do I want to try this. Apparently, I used to eat raw eggs as a kid but I don't remember (this was in Mexico). Eggs here in the US, are totally different and its hard to find good quality eggs without being expensive. However, I think now is the moment to try this food, as there are farmers who come to my city every weekend and they bring fresh eggs just like the ones I used to have in Mexico. I just hope I find some good quality soy sauce lol.

Nah, it might be nasty if I tried to eat it. Have taste eggs not the chicken kind quite like the breakfast kind. It was nasty that it almost made me throw up. Glad that I hate it, and never tried it when I first saw it.But I haven't tried soy sauce before.

i ate rice with raw eggs and soja sauce... the first time was okay... but afterwards there was somewhat a terrible aftertaste, dunno why... T-T

EDIT: after reading other comments, maybe because the rice were not steaming hot... i might try it later

You should use fresh and clean eggs.

After seeing that first episode I really want to try it, but I'm scared of getting semolina poisoning from raw egg. Anyone else have an urge to eat some?

It seems that you guys don't know a lot about eggs, but they are sterile on the inside, no bacteria and have such a impermeable barrier even when you leave eggs out on the counter for 2-3 weeks and the eggs are still good. "The inside of an egg was once considered almost sterile. But, over recent years, the bacterium Salmonella enteritidis (Se) has been found inside a small number of eggs. Scientists estimate that, on average across the U.S., only 1 of every 20,000 eggs might contain the bacteria. So, the likelihood that an egg might contain Se is extremely small – 0.005% (five one-thousandths of one percent). At this rate, if you’re an average consumer, you might encounter a contaminated egg once every 84 years." I love the runny yokes, so I would probably enjoy that.

I fry the egg a bit sunny side up, top is still liquid-y then put them on the rice mixed with soy sauce. Does that count?

It's not raw, the whole point is that the freshly steamed rice will cook the egg when mixed in. I've tried it and it's really nice.

This basically. My step-dad was half Japanese, so i got to try a few Japanese dishes while they were married and this was one of them. I love it and its a great way to add some protein. The egg might cook faster if you leave it on the counter to warm up while you're cooking the rice.
Though I must say the anime makes it look better than it does in real life -_- still good though.

I like it. You have the mix it in really well otherwise you get blobs of raw egg white here and there which is pretty gross.

I like a fried egg on top of white rice with soya, so this isn't *too* far off....I'd try it if I had a really fresh egg and piping hot rice...seems pretty tasty.

This was one of my techniques to make egg cover fried rice. Didn't work well though My stove's fire was lacking in Power and the wok wasn't getting hot enough to prevent the eggs from sticking to the pan.

But yeah I won't be eating Raw Egg over rice unless I knew the chicken was free of illness and raised in a clean enviroment and the eggs were fresh (Just laid) And washed clean.

There is a Udon shop in NYC that I love sooo much. One day I decided to try a rice bowl there and they put the raw egg on it. I'm not a huge egg fan in the first place so I was a little hesitant...But it was great, and I doubt the egg was fresh so the real thing must be amazing~

I've tried it before

After watching that episode with my sister, I went off and saw it was an actual food so we gave it a try.
It's really good! And now we eat it on a regular basis (not a smart diet)

I've never been really concerned about eating raw stuff (as long as it's not meat) and I've eaten plenty of raw eggs before.

Also, it tastes better with Japanese rice (since it's stickier). I've tried it with Jasmine rice and it doesn't have the same texture in it and ends up kind of... loose?

Does anyone know if Japan's eggs are different from in the US?

One of my first thoughts while watching that anime was to try that. But I'm still too grossed out by the idea of the texture & stuff.. I wish that when you dropped the egg in, the rice could be hot enough to cook it all the way & then it'd be sort of like fried rice but not fried lol.

I've tried it before, and I didn't think I would like it but I did! It's really good, if the rice is hot enough it cooks some of the egg. If you're a texture person, it may not be best for you since it does tend to be a little slimy because of the egg.

I do however like to make soft boiled eggs and cut them up and put them on top of my rice or noodles. I like that much better. :3c

I tried this a couple times and after I mixed in the egg & soy sauce I sprinkled salt and pepper on top.

It was delicious.

I recently got into the habit of mixing a fried egg with my rice, and mixing sriracha into it instead of soy sauce. I say FRIED egg because I'm kind of paranoid about salmonella and things like that. Started this habit yesterday, on episode 5 of Gin no Saji and in love with both my new breakfast and the show.

I just started watching this and since I didn't like eating it in Japan, I'm now feeling that maybe I missed out on something. I didn't add soy, but that's probably not going to improve things until I enjoy the flavor of soy.

Anyway, I'm a texture person. It was very slimy. It didn't sit well with my stomach. To make things worse the Tonkatsu had dark meat, which I later found out was I guess common in this particular dish. Japanese like dark pork meat I guess? It doesn't taste very good. I don't like dark meat in chicken much either.
