Episode Explenation?

Princess Principal already have 6 episodes so far, but i was kinda confused with the timeline and plot, its just jump everywhere and having hard time to understanding the plot and each character background story.
Episode so far :
Eps 1 = case 13
Eps 2 = case 1
Eps 3 = case 2
Eps 4 = case 9
Eps 5 = case 7
Eps 6 = case 18

If I watch closely, the plot move more linear and easly understandable from the case not from the eps, so is this how the anime gonna "work"?

I still want to know why they're going with this, because at the moment it just seems like a gimmick.
