How popular is this manga in Japan? Could this possibly have an anime in the future? The art is so beautiful and visually well-constructed, I wonder how it could be animated.

For now I'd say very low chances, the volumes don't even seem to sell 10k and it doesn't help that this had a magazine change and a long hiatus. Assume it won't get an anime, if it does get one, then you can start thinking about it more.

It's only going to get animated if it gets picked up by a more sophisticated mature anime time block, like Noitamina or something like that if it ever does get picked up.

Unlikely, but I would love it.

The manga is about to end (five more chapters perhaps?) according to Yuhki Kamatani themself* (
thanks Parabi), so I don't think it's a possible idea. But I would love it.

Sorry about that mistake. It can be a bit difficult to find information about mangaka artists on the internet sometimes.

I linked the tweet in my post. I think its finished by now, waiting to be published.

seems unlikely, but there have definitely been a small handful of shows about LGBT topics that do not attempt to cater to a straight/cisgender audience. Hourou Musuko immediately comes to mind.

tho, that was a different and more experimental era of anime so i dunno if something like that would get approved today.

Shimura Takako has solidified her name in the manga industry, mainly yuri, and has worked for more anime (battery, aldnoah, aoi hana, hourou musuko) plus she worked far longer than Kamatani.
If the legendary gay artist Tagame Gengoroh only got a live action adaptation for his manga, then I don't think Kamatani will get the same treatment.

Nabari no Ou has an anime adaptation though.

I know, I was gonna say that. Though, does Nabari no Ou have prevalent queer theme? Shimura's seniority and how half of her anime works are LGBT-catered and she does bless the yuri fans means that she has more support? Kamatani's shimanami tasogare here are mostly read by queer fans. Forgive me if I sound so grim but I don't wanna be so positive about the possibility of getting an anime because I'd hate to get hyped only to find out that there are no adaptations. It's a precious series :(

They ended the manga in chapter 23 unfortunately, so it was less than a lot of people expected (25 chapters), including me + ithe ending was kinda rushed. Sad. :(
