| well it was a pretty meh starting episode...i guess the mermaid is cute and some jokes were funny(including the first kiss one, had me giggling) 3/5...let's see where it goes |

| I watched this more than a decade ago, so this is technically a rewatch, though I am logging this in MAL as a first watch. I remember this as being funny, but it looks like I've outgrown the slapstick that I feel this did not age well, much like that the current Emperor then is now a former Emperor. On the other hand, just learning a little Japanese, I now appreciate some aspects that I glossed over before. I know the word sekinin 責任 meaning responsibility, and I smile as the kanji is displayed in the background. I also appreciate the bit of wordplay here: ningyo 人魚 (mermaid) and ninkyo 仁侠 (chivalry), which is also a Yakuza term. While I am looking forward to the really cute and kawaii class president in the later episodes, I forgot Sun's mom, Ren. Sun is cute, but Ren is hot. |

| Pretty standard 2000s comedy I guess, fast-paced and a bit random. Not my favorite one, but let's see where this is going. |
