| It was pretty okay. The audiovisual presentation is nice as I come to expect from Watanabe projects but the writing from this other Watanabe (Aya) leaves me a bit worried. She comes from a background of writing for television dramas and I’m skeptical of how well she’ll be able to transition to anime. Willing to give her a fair chance of course, but as far as this episode was concerned the pacing was kinda wonky as we jumped from character to character and I felt like this took away some of the intended impact of the episode. Had we gotten to know Carole and Tuesday just a little better it would’ve made their meeting as two kindred spirits more gratifying for the viewer imo. Since they’re both painfully lonely people, their instant desire to befriend one another is not at all hard to accept but again, had we gotten just a tiny bit more insight into them it could’ve provided more emotional investment, thus making the ending scenes of them playing together and vowing to continue making music together truly heartwarming. But hey, it’s only episode 1 and I am more than willing to give this the benefit of the doubt in hopes that it develops into something truly special. Carole and Tuesday are very charming characters so far and there are some other potentially interesting characters like the child actor and the has-been musician and I’m curious to to see how they fit into the overall narrative. |
