So,

Other than the stuff that came on TV like Pokemon and Sailor Moon, I never watched any anime. It wasn't until I went to college two years ago that a girlfriend of mine totally introduced me into anime. We used to watch it together and since we were two girls in love, it was primarily yuri and shoujo stuff; though I start to watch other stuff now too. I said 'this is awesome' and I thought going on the web and finding more and watching it was better than watching most stuff on TV nowadays.

Well, my friends that I grown up with don't know about it rly. They know I watch anime and they say I'm silly for it, though they haven't the idea most was yuri. The word would be unfamiliar to them. One of my older sisters came to visit my apartment, which is my private zone that family shall not enter and went on my personal computer, first of all, and saw my desktop is a yuri of Minami x Yutaka (cutest couple ever) and got all on my case about it. I'm turning 20 next month and I haven't told my family anything about my girlfriends, or yuri no less. So I was wondering if all of your friends and people know that you like to watch yuri goodness.

My mom knows I watch anime. Unfortunately, since I started like everyone watching Dragon Ball, she thinks anime are all like that. Not that it's really a problem for me, because she's not interested and I can watch what I want. Well, she does watch Miyazaki stuff, but that's it.

With my friends is all another story. Of course they know I watch anime, and of course they know I watch yuri :D I can't discuss any of it with them though, because they don't watch anime AND they definitely are not interested in yuri. Such a shame, really.

My friends have become yuri experts because of me :P

But my family does not know about genres for anime besides the obvious like samurai and mecha. I was watching Project A-ko and El Cazador de la Bruja with my little brother and sister, and they seemed to be very aware that there's something more going on with the girls in those. I didn't elaborate though. Chickened out and said they were best friends. I dunno how ready I am to teach them that homosexuality exists.

My friends that are anime fans know about it(obviously), and my friends who aren't anime fans have a pretty good idea too. My parents don't though, I'm not gonna be like "hey mom, come watch this chinese cartoon about lesbians with me!"

My family doesn't know, I don't want them to be awkward around me just because I like yuri. They accept homosexuality, but I don't know how they'd react, so I don't plan on telling them. Of course, if they ask me directly (even though they don't even know the term) I'll say yes, I was raised by anime values, so I can't lie xD.

All my friends know and accept it, but they thought I was a lesbian. They finally accepted that it wasn't the case like a year ago, but they're not disgusted by yuri owo

Um, I live with my mum, and she knows that I watch yuri (she also know that I sometimes watch Hentai XD). But I think that, for her, all animes are like Pokemon so... :/
I don't really feel like talking about it with my dad. He knows that I watch anime, but not about yuri.
I mean, when I told him that I'm bisexual he said that It's fine (but he thinks that a lot of girls in my age have doubts about their sexuality blah blah blah) but I don't really feel like telling him "Oh dad, I watch "cartoons" about lesbians~"
And about my friends...
Well, those who watch anime know about it.
And my best friend knows about it (because I bug her about everything I watch XDDD)
But most of my other friends don't. I just don't talk about anime with them... :/

LOL box of dvd's.... always fun. Who grabbed the mail? UPS must have sent a box with PORN written on the outside. I hate mail delivery so much I am thinking about getting a PO box.

So my sister is still bugging me about it. She asked me if I was gay and it's one of those questions that I'm guilty not from answering yes, but for not answering at all. I guess it's best to keep yuri in the sock drawer.

Well, I remember once, I had a "I <3 Yuri" badge on my bag, and my mum asked me about it. I just simply answered "It's a genre of anime", to which she asked "Yes, but what is it?".

"A romance genre", was my final bit of information, before walking out of the room.

Let's just say that my family isn't exactly open-minded. I've nearly been thrown out of the house for having seasons of "The L Word" and Ellen's comedy dvds. So Yuri anime and manga is a big no-no for them, and I won't speak to them about it. And I don't think I ever will, to be honest.

Well, some of my friends do, but why would I like to tell it to my parents o,O ? It's a private issue which just like a sexual stuff should be avoided in conversation with family in order to not embarass anyone.

I can discuss both with my closest friends, who are young enough to understand, open minded and respecting. They see nothing wrong in watching yuri~~ we all are adult people, with our own needs. We all know that watching porno isn't out of normal so why would yuri be? However, though I'm hetero I can't even imagine tellin my mum "Yo, listen mum, beside normal anime I like watching yuri, which means lesbian anime, but no, im not homo, i just enjoy it. What do you think bout it?". For me, it's just almost the same as telling her about my sexual relationships. There are some topics which should not be discussed with the closest family, that's just the way it is.

Let's see... my mom once saw me looking at an Utena&Anthy picture, and she asked: are they both women? xD I said yes, and she said nothing else. They weren't kissing though.
My parents are not homophobic, but sometimes they get a little intolerant, specially my dad, so I would never say: "Hey dad, I like this..." It's not necessary.
My little sister is 11 years old and I think she knows about shoujo-ai, she once saw me watching Aoi Hana, and she's ok with it, i'm raising her well xD but she's too young to know about hentai yuri <__< I hope she doesn't find my NSFW pics haha.
Once I mentioned it to my twin cousins that are one year older than me,girls, because they like anime, and they just replied that they didn't like it, nor yaoi. But they were really respectful.

About my friends, just my best girl friend knows, I only talk with her about anime, I have other anime-liker friend but he likes Naruto, so bleh xD
A guy friend I had in high school knew too.
My ex-boyfriend knew.
My current boyfriend knows, more than anyone xD. He asks me: "What are you doing?" And I say: "Watching yuri ^^" or "I'm going to watch yuri *o*"
Sometime I even send him pics.
But he loves me anyways xD

And this was a long post <.<

For the most part, everyone I know doesn't watch anime at all, let alone, do they know what yuri anime is... My mom know that I like stories about females assasins and ambiguous frienndships... and I told her about Candy Boy, and discussed it for hours (from a psychiatry pojnt of view)... So I dunno if she knows about the yuri and/or "the rest of the stuff"... I try to go" hint- hint" as much s possible...
About my friends... my best friend, who happens to be the only anime watching friend I got... completely ignores... and I say , completely ignores the fact, that she's got in her collection, a couple of yuri classics... hahaha, that it cracks me up...

Well, I am a guy so it's not as weird as it could be, but here's what happened:

dvds comes in from the UPS (sbp, msgm, elfen lied)

mom grabs it and takes it in (living at home again till next year)

i run in to unpack and check it out, was doing something outside

i unpack 80% of it and my dad suddenly needs help doing something

My mom finishes unpacking it for some reason (wtf.)

i get back in the house and she basically asks me about anime and "what's with the 2 girls on the cover" with a weird look.

i had to explain why I liked yuri, thought it was cute, but didn't buy this stuff for the reasons she probably immediately thought of. It was... lets just say it was difficult lol. I'd never talked to anyone about anime except like 2 friends and people on the internet, let alone yuri.

Now I watch it in the living room on the 40"~ TV lol. I don't give a fuck :P. Elfen lied is actually more strange to watch in front of people though (pissing on the floor, exposed tits, multiple personalities, bloodbaths etc).

That's it? I'm sure plenty of anime have two girls on the cover, it's weird that the first thing she assumed was "Two girls within 5 feet of each other?! They must be lesbians!"

In fact, that was probably the least likely thing for it to be. I mean, two girls posing just looks cute, so I don't see how someone who doesn't know about anime(and the existence of yuri) would even consider that.

You basically got pulled over for speeding and admitted to killing someone xD

heh, it was the SBP box man, it's obvious some shit is goin down ya know :P. I just decided to tell the truth rather than be like oooh it's nothing (that would make me seem distant and strange, rather than just strange). It really was my best friend who introduced me to yuri... She really loves it. And I kinda started to like it ever since... Now is like a part of my life.

My family, well... They hardly know what I do in my life, so it's not important to me that they know I like yuri (they might not know what it is...) I just think I'm to lazy to explain to them what is yuri and why I like it. So I just don't tell them about that part of my life. And it's not like they would scream to me if they notice I like yuri. ¬¬'

Both my father and sister know that I like anime. Although my dad doesn't know much about it, little lone yuri. Though he knows what yaoi is, he found out the hard way on that one. Which was actually kind of funny. My sister knows what yuri is, and knows that I like it and she doesn't mind. They also know that I am bisexual, so that if my dad did know it wouldn't be much a shock to him.

As for my friends well like most everyone here, they don't even know what anime is. Save a select few friends, however most of them like the anime that comes on Adult Swim, and Toonami. So they wouldn't know what yuri is, as far as I know.

Haha... hahaha... no. ;A;

My parents know I watch anime and always hint that they think I'm a weirdo for enjoying "foreign cartoons" and mom especially likes to harass me with, "Why do you even like this stuff?". Oh well, they can deal with it. It's not like I'm a bad egg and am shooting up drugs or anything.

All of my siblings know what yuri is (except my baby sister, derp) but they don't know I watch it... though I sometimes try to drop hints, that way if they really wanted to know what I watched they have the opportunity to look it up for themselves.

I have yet to find anyone IRL who's as connected to Japan as I am, so I just don't talk about anime with friends. I mean, I have a few friends who watch the extreme mainstream stuff and never want to explore outside that box of anime, but they're never interested in anything but yaoi and bishounen. I doubt they know that yuri exists. D:

No, my parents don't know about Yuri, but my brother and sister do.
Since I am a lezzy myself, I doubt my mom would care of it, like she won't freak out or anything. It'll be like a guy getting caught looking at hetero porn! :D

My sister doesn't care, she enjoys Yuri also, just not as much as I do, she likes Shoujo-ai and Shounen-ai more. While my brother on the other hand, enjoys it probably as much as I do, but sucks at finding my stash. >:3

My friends don't care, a few of them like it also, those are my anime loving friends, I have some other friends who are interested in anime but don't like it as much as I do. They like some Yuri here and there also.

Once though I was in an insane Aoi Hana gushing mood, which led to a interesting conversation with my mum lol. I scrambled as I tried to explain why I was so enamoured with Fumi without actually omitting certain information...

My mum knows I'm gay but I think if I explain to her what yuri was she would make a direct collation between yuri and my sexuality. Basically I’d be worried that she’d think I was a total pervert lol.

My family know that I watch anime and they have guessed that I watch yuri, they just didn't know it was called yuri. It's one of those things where they know I'm a lesbian so it would make sense that I would watch stuff that I related to somehow. But when I say 'family' I only mean my immediate family, parents and elder brother.

Of course my friends know I watch it since they watch anime too, and I like to share some of the ones I watch with them, namely Noir or Utena. Sometimes when they're trying to convince me to watch a particular show they try to lure me in by saying there is some slight yuri or there is a EPL (evil psychotic lesbian) in it. ....the EPL gets me every time ><.

Something similar happened to me once actually. I live in the dorms since the university is too far from where I live. Well, my grandparents live in the same city as the university so I'll visit them whenever they invite me to dinner. One time my family came down to visit them so I went to meet up them.
Well, sometimes I forget what shirt I happen to wearing, and so I visit them with a 'Yuri is my anti-drug' shirt on. I only noticed that I was wearing it when my mother gave me a strange look (she knew what it was). My grandmother read my shirt and asked me what yuri was, and both my parents looked at me to see how I would answer. I simply said that it was a 'type of anime' and left it at that, luckily she didn't ask any further questions and dropped the subject. I wouldn't want to have to come out over the dinner table just because of my shirt ><.
