There are some character development made along the way in the TV anime series, which makes the movie more enjoyable. You aallso may be confused in some parts too, since there are characters that you might think they just came out of nowhere where they actually are introduced in the TV anime series.

So yeah, you have to.

It's highly recommended you watch the series first so you can fully experience the movie.

Yes? I mean, the movie adapts Volumes 6-7.
Plus, the movie introduces too many characters in the scenes and is not holding your hand explaining who is who, because the movies assumes that you watched the show or read the novels up to this point. No, not really recommended as a stand-alone. You will be lost and you will be wasting your time and most likely you won’t be able to enjoy it.

Watch the series you definitely won’t regret, it is one of my all time favourite anime’s, and so much happens in the series that would make the movie 1000 times more enjoyable, I would highly recommend watching them both!

You 100% have to see the series before the movie because the movie is just a continuation of the series

Sakuta and shoukos relationship doesn’t make any sense without watching the series first. Neither does Sakuta and Mai. You can’t skip 80 percent of the story to watch the last 20 that’s built off that 80, just doesn’t make sense. I’m not trying to be mean when I say that but the movie wouldn’t make sense if you hadn’t seen the series. Also the plot mechanics and puberty sybdrome will not make any sense without watching the series. It’s good, watch it.

Yes you have to watch the series first before the movie as the movie is a sequel to the original series. It will only confuse you as there isnt as much character development in the movie as the series because the characters have already been established in the series so just watch the series first and then go to the movie

Absolutely yes, you just have too. It's basically a sin not watching the anime before this
