I didn't watch any of the other ones and went into completely blind. I can honestly say: what the actual f*** just happened

Maybe it'll get explained in the coming episodes but I wouldn't get your hopes up. Entire episode is very weird in general.

You can, but they don't explained the card game rule

Considering it's more action focused judging from the first ep I don't think you really need to know it

You absoloutely theres no connection, can as for the lack of explanation in that episode, that had nothing to do with previous, and may have been artistic to represent character not understanding yet either, and just show off action aspect. Likely the rules will be explained in episode 2 but it really didn't make absoloutely clear what had happened exactly at least card game wise whether you understood it or not that one so don't worry about it.

What he said, this episodes fight was a artistic choice.

There is no need to watch the previous series.

Also rules will probably be explained next episode

Ok, i'm gonna explain it to you, since i watched all of vanguard.
This is new era, new characters, new mechanics in game (after a reboot).
So you can watch it even without knowledge of the previous series.

Main character, Yu-Yu, just knows that Vanguard exist, he didn't play it. We're shown the game from his perspective. Just think about it like your friend brings you to locals to show you this game. You would only hear like few words that they're saying (like in episode; guard, ride, attack etc.)

In the next episodes Yu-Yu will learn how to play, so they're gonna explain rules.

This is my first cardfight vanguard anime. I'm watching this anime mainly because Shindou Amane is here 😍 But I was greeted by Yuyu who is a cute crossdresser 😍 Perhaps that will make me stay too but it seems it's only episode 1 where he will crossdress 😭 I hope he will do it again in episode 2 !!

I would imagine this is a great entry point to the franchise, seeing as it is only slated for 12 episodes and is not connected to any of the previous long running installments.
