I'm a prospective viewer of Texhnolyze so please no spoilers. Feel free to make your case of which one is better w/o spoilers preferrably, but what does the community think? I think both have rightfully earned the title of classic based off what I've heard from them both, but I want to know if I should raise or lower my expectations when I watch Texhnolyze after having already seen Serial Experiments. In other words, should I jump on the hype-train of depression I've heard so much about?!

Just beware that the beginning can be kinda slow. I didn’t mind it too much though, and I thought Yoshi was a very interesting character. Aside from that, the story is much darker than SEL, and the ending is... not one I’ve seen before.

IMO Texhnolyze and SEL are both 10/10, and I’ve only given a 10/10 to 4 series so far. So yea, I thought Texhnolyze was great and u should totally watch it.

Both are masterpieces, but for me texhnolyze has something plus.
The problem is that texhnolyze is unpopular and few people have watched it

Texhnolyze for me, it's one of a handful of anime that I'll never forget, especially those last episodes. Very profound.

Both are mediocre but Lain is shorter so my vote goes to Lain.

even though I prefer Nakamura over Hiroshi Hamasaki, and he did a great job with Lain, i prefer Texh. simply appeals much more to me on a conceptual level and also being twice as long helps it a lot.

^ Context: 5 to Cowboy Bebop, Lain and Kara no Kyoukai, 6 to EVA... but 9 to Gintama, FAIRY TALE, BLEACH and 8 to Hyhype Kaisen

lmao

Yeah, that is right. It is tough having a subjective viewpoint.

Lain is pretentious, doesn't have enough of a narrative, not as well crafted as Texhnolyze, leaves too much to interpretation, doesn't answer enough questions, etc.

Both are essentially and virtually about the same thing, next step in human evolution, but Texhnolyze both handles it way better without going completely off topic and brings a lot of other new, important stuff to the table. In the end, both have distinctly different messages.

Texhnolyze speaks about technology, evolution, progression, society—and the hierarchical order and 'classes' within it, human condition, religion, purpose, behavioral sink—for lack of a better word, and handles all of them pretty good. I don't think it necessarily screws up or makes a big mistake in any of them.

Lain's themes are technology, evolution, perception, identity, reality, consciousness, it handles a few of them pretty good, and messes up in some.

Lain also has a very strong story but Texh is the more better brother.

Texhnolyze has a way more coherent and substantial story, it's much more relevant — especially these days — and its execution is very good.

I also thought Chiaki J Konaka's next anime Ghost Hound was a very good anime, but not as good as Lain or Texhnolyze. Texhnolyze could also be interpreted in a way that it also includes what Ghost Hound is going for.

Lain for sure, not really a fan of Tex, the set up was really nice but the latter half felt bland to me, wasn't impactful at all personally.

Wow both are almost edging out each other

I think Texhnolyze is a bit underrated though

They both had equal votes haha. But I prefer Texh to be honest, although pacing problems was an issue to any anime but it gave depth to what Lain has left off... though I love them both.
