This series was created by Vinland Saga's author....but why is it sooooo underrated among people and why it's rated so low...it should be at least in top 100 of MAL...like Space Brothers is also rated pretty good...8.51...

it is solid show i gave it 9 it was interesting to me i love space but it all comes down to people at the end

But it is not rated low. 8,27 is quite a high score, even amongst more mainstream titles. And as you've said it's a hard sci-fi released almost 20 years ago, so it's a genre for niche audience, which means it won't attract much more audience.

An old anime from 2003 with adult cast and no highschool superpowers is bound to not having any hype or popularity among a lot anime audiences.

I dunno, those statistics are looking pretty good to me. A 7/10 average is the norm for pretty much everything on here, so there'd be tens of thousands of anime that this outperforms.
