| I only recently watched the 2 seasons a month or 2 back, and they're basically the same quality. S1 starts of really strong, but I guess that's because there's no disappointment to be had since it's just the setup. This results in the first 6 or so episodes being the best Beastars has ever been in the anime. S1 2nd half is so stupid and illogical that it became the worst Beastars has been. S2 first half was dull and didn't add much, whilst the latter half was unexpectedly enjoyable. Yet, both seasons are still just weak at its main goal. Though, because s2 focuses more on it, I guess I'll give my vote to the sequel. |
| Without question, season one. Season two was something of a downgrade for me. I didn't appreciate or enjoy as much the sudden change in focus for several episodes on the bear character or bringing up side characters and then not ever really revisiting them again to follow up and elaborate on, such as the snake security guard. Don't get me wrong - I still by and large enjoyed season two and would definitely watch a season three of Beastars at some point if one is ever made and released. I rated season one an 8/10 and season two a 7/10. So the difference on paper just looking at those two numbers doesn't seem huge, but for me, a 7/10 is my average "good" rating which I hope to end up rating the majority of series I watch. Whereas just that one point difference to reach an 8/10 requires a little more of a spark of something special and extra incorporated into it which I felt season one possessed and season two lacked. Whether I end up rating the Beastars series an 8/10 or 7/10 as a whole in retrospect then depends on whether there is a season three or any other future seasons beyond that, and whether they're closer in quality level to the first or second season or even above the first or below the second. |
