Yeah, with more resources, you can make a movie-quality tv-series, and with even more, you can make a Redline-tier quality movie, go bankrupt and close. This is not a damn shounen selling a gazillion copies of manga every month, what kind of ridiculous comparisons are these? MunaXs said: The biggest problem is not animation. It is the adaptation of the characters. If you compare for example Ruby's personality, Weiss' personality and their relationship between animation and manga, they are two totally different stories. What does manga have to do with it? Manga is not the source material, the source material is a web series. And in the web series, the characters at this stage are exactly like that. They will change, but at this stage of the narrative they are exactly that. Even if the source is not the manga, it doesn't detract from the fact that the Tsundere-Dandere relationship is something that has been more than exploited in multiple productions. That's my criticism. |

I wouldn't go as far as to do a redline level of quality, just the fluidity of simple movements of animation like running or walking is enough. Idoly Pride doesn't even have fight scenes, yet its animation on normal stuff like dancing makes it a better eye-candy than high-velocity fight scenes. That's what this show is lacking. I wouldn't be bothered if this level of animation still exists in ep 4, but newcomers sure don't take it too well. unless they do improve with better pacing. |

How did it even happen that you read the manga, but you don't know about the original web series? This manga is of the kind that is usually interesting only to existing fans... I mean, there is no -dere in Weiss rn - she just realizes the need for cooperation and tries to cope with emotions. There is no real tsun- either. There is no fundamental difference in the animation of an action scene and a dance - both are difficult and require a lot of work. Dancing is a thing of equal complexity and brightness, and not some " normal stuff" with which you fill the free space between the action. And Idoly Pride has only about 10 short dance scenes for 12 episodes. But here you want a well-animated action and a well-animated "normal stuff", and that's not how anime TV series work. Normally, at best you have one short animated sequence and everything else is "limited animation". But these segments of limited animation can still look beautiful and interesting. And that's where the things I mentioned become important. I wouldn't say that. |

This isn't for me, really, but for any anime watchers who can't accept this level of quality. Dropping it immediately without giving it any second chances. I would've abandoned this series after those 3 episodes, but the shortcomings ain't a big deal because it's RWBY. A company going as far as to create a disney level of animation would definitely lead to financial problems or something. Idk if Ufotable was facing that kind of issue, but that's what it seems like to me. I know that animators decide how many frames they want to put on their animations, but newcomers don't know that and will continue to believe their own opinions. Thus, threads like this are a sign that some don't really like what they're seeing and I can understand where they're coming from. |

Why should they give this second chance to a show that's not for them? Why should anyone care if they drop the show? These are not "newcomers". This is a tiny layer of those who watch exclusively high-budget shounens. There is no need to please them with every show. You say that Idoly Pride is eye candy, but it's barely animated, outside of these few short dance animation sequences. And the density of these well-animated sequences per episode is way lower there than in rwby. See? It's not about more sakuga from high-class animators, but about how the segments of limited animation look like. Take a look at the last 2 minutes of the third episode of rwby - it's a limited animation, but I doubt many people had any problems with it. It looks good. The backgrounds look nice, the shots are well composited and characters match the model. And that's what other scenes in rwby sometimes lack-especially in the 2nd episode. |

That's exactly the quality I'm talking about. Small stuff like that is enough for anyone to enjoy anything. But for the ones who want "yutaka nakamura" levels of animation, they can go watch what they like better. Just normal ones moving properly. Hair waving, walking, running, jumping, anything typical done well and not stiff. sometimes you may find limited animation, but only for when it doesn't need a lot of movement, like standing/sitting while talking. Making the little things move is enough eye candy (for me, at least). And I know every show isn't for everyone. But even shows that aren't for the right audience are entertaining for said audience. I'm not into romance or sci-fi anime, but I watched the genres and I was amazed by everything simple, aside from the storytelling and god-tier animation. I'm trying to please more people, hopefully the ones who have an interest in this stuff, because hearing good stuff about it from them with a logical/reasonable explanation is the best reward ever. Hearing new people talk about link click, Monster, this show or Berserk and say good stuff about it was so rewarding for me. Negativity with no reasoning or dumb reasoning will rub off on anyone who takes it to heart and a lot of people have done that for years now. |

If you can't appreciate it, then you just don't like anime, but I think you can - you just don't quite understand what you don't like in some rwby segments and what you like or what you don't minde in some other shows. Let's go back to the Idoly Pride - the 2nd episode of IP is barely animated. There's nothing of what you're describing - it's just a lot of still shots and a moving mouths. Rare animated cuts are extremely simple - a looped basic animation of legs or an up-and-down movement of a static head model and things like this. Here is literally the best animated cut of the entire episode! 2nd episode of rwby is incomparably better animated, and yet you call IP an eye candy compared to rwby - think about why? |

Oh, the 2nd episode does not include what ep 2 of rwby had. And the reason why IP's 2nd episode doesn't have what I said, because it doesn't need to. Probably the choice of the directors. One piece has it, most of the time. Yet it doesn't have the noticeable errors and awkward movements that came from rwby (at least, from what I saw). Oh, and I'm not comparing rwby and IP. No, haha. I'm using IP as an example of how normal movements should be done (in parts where lots of motion is needed). The errors and stiffness in some parts of rwby can be spotted by anyone with good eyes and that might discourage them in some ways. It's not as bad as S2 of OPM and Record of Ragnarock, that's for sure. Berserk 1997 has minimal animation most of the time, yet I consider it a better experience and version than the movies. Edit: The problems of animation doesn't bother that much anymore. Current spongebob has insane/exaggerated, somewhat clunky animations with a noticeably absurd art style that I don't approve, yet I still watch the new spongebob episodes, regardless. |

Ahaha, it doesn't have that, because it's cheaper and easier that way. Don't you think it would be better if you were shown the dance itself, and not a panting girl who just finished the dance? Do you think the director wouldn't be happy to show it to you? He just doesn't have enough resources, because it's just a regular seasonal TV anime. Yeah, you can say that this is not necessary in a way, because even without seeing any animation most of the time, many viewers, it turns out, will still call the show eye candy. And here we go back to where we started. This is literally my original point. This show doesn't need more great animators - there are already a lot. It needs better work (read as "more time") by animation directors who would correct errors. |

They have a lot working, but Vincent Chansard was the only one that stood out to me (yet Idk where/what segment is his. maybe genga). That and of course, with more time for tweaking. I have no hate for the results personally, goofs are expected everywhere, happens all the time in spongebob, but others surely will and nitpick to keep complaining. |

I wouldn't say it's something good either. Even limited animation can be inventive and interesting, and this is not what we see in the IP, but that's another conversation. Oh, dude, I watched Monster, Berserk (read the manga a lot), OPM is kind of a shounen if that makes sense, most of these aren't touched by Shaft. Haven't seen a single shaft anime until now. Maybe I'l do the monogatari series someday. I don't really pay attention to names of animators a lot, only when I'm intrigued. Wow, Vincent barely did anything, if that's what he actually did. |

Since 2017, I made dozens of OC semblances in a semblance thread that's now dead, got as taste of the toxic side of the FNDM, and after that, I still crave for rwby greatness, despite the storytelling downgrade in recent volumes. I just want it done well and this version might bring more people in if the writing and pacing is executed well, it's not the worst animated show out there. Hearing good stuff about what I like pleases me a lot, man. I wouldn't be wasting time here if I hate this so much. |

| oh man. this new character design. just look at them. SO CUTE. I just look at Weiss and Blake OH MY GOD. She's so ADORABLEEEE! I'm sorry Saori (ruby's voice actress) but I just in love with Weiss's voice. I'm talking about the voice role of weiss only of course that is not the normal voice of the voice's actress. voice actress of Weiss is also play in dr. stone but in a different tone of acting role. anyway, 1: I wanted to ask. is this anime a remake of the original? 2: what is the different between the CGI used in Original RWBY cartoon and this Japanese Ice queen version? (I could see the original version and the eyes is moving and feel kinda 2.5 D or 3D when they are turning around. |

| While the story is set in the same universe as the main show, they are calling it “canon adjacent” - wait hold a minutes. are you kidding? this is obviously a alternate universe and a remake with a brand new story. no way this is the same universe as original. who is Zaiden? why didn't she debut in the original? this show just restart from the beginning and alter the story along the way. the story is alter after Zaiden is introduced. Same universe ,really, then how are you going to connect this ice queendom to the original. how are they going to merge. |

| "One of the worst" this show is mid at worst, and considering they had to adapt 2 whole seasons of really boring stuff in just 3 episodes they did fine. Too bad they'll skip the best fights which were in S3 but it was a pretty boring torunament arc in general so no wonder and if it's original from now on, great, I dropped the shit out of S4 of RWBY. Considering how bad RWBY is outside of the fights, this rushed pacing is actually a gift. |

That’s ridiculous Because RWBY consistently develops plot points that are laughable and incoherent at best. The characters are consistently thrown all over the place and it keeps setting itself up for something big that winds up being pushed off, forgotten, or changed for no apparent reason. It is a huge pile of wasted potential that gets progressively worse with each volume. Look at Adam and the White Fang, what could have been a literal set up that explored the moral corruption of the Schnee Family and the Schnee Dust Corporation got completely swept under the rug for what? And that's just one thing. Let's not also forget that RWBY has an issue of bringing in characters that have little to no importance to the story or are only relevant for a few scenes or a plot point before being cast off to the side and never to be seen again. It's just funny that people are bashing this version of it when in reality, it's already doing a better job of handling the characters and the world itself than the original project. |

They definitely did not do a better job handling the characters. Characters like jaune are extremely lame in volume 1-3 and they kinda made him not so lame in the anime but they stripped team RWBY of any charm or personality from the show and they are what made volumes 1 and 2 watchable. It just feels lifeless. The big grimm bird fight in volume 1 is way cooler and more fun to watch and packed with personality than anything the anime has ever did so far. It also replaces vital character moments for people like jaune by replacing their arcs with a new grimm that gives them nightmares or something and this new random character only in the anime comes in to solve their problems for them in an instant. It’s so lame. Half of the characters in the anime barely exist and it’s such a mess. |

I really like the character designs and the fights (even if they're a bit generic) but i just can't stand everyone talking and acting like a cartoon network licensed anime as if they're 5 year olds in the body of super models I’ve heard that everything after episode 3 will be anime original but I’m not sure if it’s true, honestly you are SOOOOO much better off watching the original even if the first 3 volumes of the original look bad. This anime butchers the show Pretty sure RWBY butchers itself after Volume 3 RWBY actually gets better after volume 3 and i have no idea why you think it doesn’t. Ah yes, let's put expectations of high octane fights from a medium that uses 3D animation and compare it to a medium that is primarily 2D animation and expect the same or similar personality with frame by frame works. I literally die inside every time I see people voice that issue. It may not have been as stylized as what was in the original show but it was pretty satisfactory given the assets they used here. And yes, please tell me how the lame ass Jaune gets bullied arc was such a major point of character development that was such a major factor in Team JNPR's storytelling. I mean the fact that people literally thought this was going to be a verbatim adaptation of what RT did is just funny. My only complaint was that they didn't give more time to Sun Wukong and Penny. But other than that, bringing it in and focusing on Team RWBY and Team JNPR? That's what should be done. Focus on a control group of characters first before introducing a mess of new people. What does RWBY do? Constantly introduce new characters and do nothing with them besides make them look cool and forget they exist once they served their purpose. Then again, that's all RWBY has done over the past few years...that and drag out the Salem conflict which if the writers were smart, they would have waited on introducing Salem until everyone least expected it. |

There was never an argument about the animation. This is SHAFT, arguably the best anime studio ever, and the animation is AT MOST alright and its going against a show made in fucking Miku Miku Dance. RWBY animation and how it looked at all in volume 1 was fucking appalling that show looked like complete shit but it didnt matter because the grimm bird fight had funny but awesome character interactions and teamwork and music. The animation does not matter. The anime only kept one of those three. It kept the teamwork and it still wasnt as cool as volume 1. Yeah they used the same powers together like in volume 1 but oh my god it is so lackluster compared to the original. The interactions in the anime feel hollow. The music in the anime is marvel movie bullshit, the original RWBYs music is kickass. There’s like 4 things that happen in that fight in the original that make me laugh, and I haven’t grinned a single time at the anime. Where is ANYTHING that the original RWBY had?? Why haven’t I smiled a single time at the anime but the original made me laugh so many times in its worst volumes? And yeah jaunes arc was lame, so replacing it with something even lamer makes it even worse. They should not have introduced this random lame ass lazy character. |

| Shaft's changes seem to be addressing fundamental issues with RWBY. Here's a list: Ruby and Yang feel like sisters who care for each other for once Yang addresses her mommy Summer Rose with a simple yet elegant scene where she winks to Summer's grave. Weiss has her family situation established from the start. Pyrrha is famous and the reasons why she likes Jaune are more blatant when we actually see the boy not caring about her status when everyone else does. Weiss doesn't just accept Ruby as leader after a quick talk with a teacher she just met. Instead, her kindness is contextualized as her trying to get in the leader's good graces to use Ruby as she pleases later. Blake's discussion on Weiss' racism doesn't end after a singular big talk and is instead the catalyst for an entirely new arc where Weiss ends up trapped within a nightmare where she becomes what her father always wanted her to be—a ruthless, racist ice queen that's struggling deep down with the political beliefs and prejudices being challenged by the real world and her new friends. Which is a far better way to address the topic and the character of Weiss than just forgetting about it. Plus we get military Weiss out of it. |
