The change of context and the reconstruction of Thorfinn's history after the death of the king may be part of the plot that leads to the meeting of Vinland, but so much action that we had in the first season and knowing that the war continues, but especially knowing that it is a story of Vikings, it leaves you expecting more dynamism and a little more misfortune and violence in the story instead of the tale of some farmers. I don't know where they are going to direct the whole plot, but this radical change is disappointing me a bit...
the theme of vinland was already laid down for you in season 1. if you didn't understand why the story changed like this then you might need a rewatch

Pseudointellectuals going insane because some other anime makes farming tons of time more interesting than the weak Gin no Sanji, rofl.

Anyways, tough day for VS because I just finished the third part of The Human Condition movies and it is hard to overcome that, I'll be nice and rate the episode a 7.3/10.

More farming stuff, pretty chill episode and Thorfinn suddenly has beard.

That’s what I’m saying , bro suddenly grew a beard. I wonder how much time has gone by for his hair to have grown long enough for a ponytail and grow a beard

Story content aside (adapted beautifully), the actual artwork of this episode (character artwork, backgrounds) were exceptionally great this episode. It's difficult to capture the very detailed faces of the characters from the manga, yet they did a great job to make sure each frame of characters look good! (Aside from the far shots, which makes sense).

Your criticism is valid, but when literally almost every single live-action television show/movie about vikings presents us with the same rehashed content (violent and bloody viking battles), it's honestly a breath of fresh air to get something different & allow Thorfinn's character to grow.
If anything, having the first season be focused on battles/political intrigue and having the second season cover a different perspective of the era (farmers/slaves) helps to educate what life was like for different people back then.

Haven't watched the ep yet but it's nice reading this and being able to look forward to that. I've found that some of Season 2 episodes, the characters have looked slightly off model precisely because the realistic manga faces are hard to draw. Overall WiT did great in this regard in the first season, but even that season had a couple stinker episodes in terms of those visuals specifically.

After two weeks of only reading manga and novels, I had to make this the first anime I resumed watching.
Sverkel does not care about class as long the deal made is fulfilled, he seems closer to Snake then independent Ketil.
Einar striving to get the fields cleared and the crops grown to get a step closer to freedom brings tear to my eye.
It was later than expected but Einar finally said it, he and Thorfinn are indeed friends.

Novels I have read/am reading pending approval: since November 10 2022

Vinland Saga continues to look great but this was easily my least favorite arc of the manga and the adaptation is certainly not changing my mind on that.  It is fortunate that when I picked it up there was more to read as I might have dropped it otherwise.  Thorfinn farming as a slave is just not interesting for me.

Great to see Thorfinn step by step finding back to being a human. Even tho him and Einar are currently slaves, they're working hard and slowly creating something for themself. Overall it's such a great contrast to what especially Thorfinn had to go through in his childhood. I believe that Einar was the best thing which could've ever happened to him. He not only learns new things on how farming works on a daily basis, he also steadily begins to breaks out of his introverted shell which can easily be noticed by the amount of talking between him and Einar. Most importantly for the first time he made a real friend. Something he never experienced and what I'm very happy for him.

Sverkel is a real honest, down to earth guy. It also appears that Snake has a way better relationship to him as the  independent Ketil who seems to search for more and more wealth.

Since Snake mentioned that thieves appear from time to time, I wonder if this will play a bigger role later on. Something like the farm gets attacked and Thorfinn has to defend. Obviously I let my imagination run wild, but eventually I'm not too far off with it.

3.5/5

Back to the farm now. I was a bit turned off at first coming from all that Canute shine last episode but the it grew on me every passing minute. Decent animation but great background & shot compositions

Nice two birds and a snake symbolism at the beginning there. Einar seems a bit too energetic which might come off as annoying but he's doing his best to stay motivated. He has far superior farming skills (of course) and it us apparent. Quite nice seeing Thorfinn actually care about something else than despair and farming might just be the solution, as dumb as it sounds but I digress. It was nice seeing the old man helping both of our guys with ploughs but that twist of him actually being the real owner of the farm was superb and one I didn't see coming. I didn't even bother memorising his name until then xD

Kettil and Sverkel, Oil and Water... more or less. Just like Kettil and his son too, along with many others, a age old sturggle between man & son. Einar Thorfinn don't care much as they're invited to one of the more better nights in their recent memory. They find Snake just lounging about, waking up with non-stop banter with Sverkel, which was pretty entertaining ngl. They discuss theives and why they leave Kettils farm alone. A little stingy subject for Thorfinn but he needs to get over it. Sverkel than proceeds to spit some profound wisdom before a pretty satisfying and wholesome ending of Einar & Thorfinn finally acknowledging their long due friendship, which hopefully is everlasting

So that's the Master's father. He's a good man at heart.

Einar and Thorfinn made great progress with the horse and the plough.

Thorfinn and Einar have surely grown a lot during their stay on this farm.

Ah, so we’re introduced to the master’s father! Interesting old man, he may look scary but he’s quite considerate and kind, all things considered. At this rate Thorfinn and Einar will both be able to buy their freedom back~
