Ritsuko Akine is back at it with the violin in the infirmary again, and Hajime takes interest in her playing, even though he has denounced his playing and Takeda-sensei still remembering the vibes of his young days, awaiting to be reinvigorated once more. And Akine following Hajime to fix her violin, it looks like a lover's quarrel in public that he concedes to her request and brings her to his home to see his father's studio room, which she has no complete idea about him. Akine wanting to her his playing, he won't because it brings back the unpleasant memories of his family, and other than his prized possession of medals and accolades that dig his grave further, he just won't. Fine then, Akine playing of Pachelbel's Canon wouldn't mind, and the sound stuck with him since his father taught him the same song back then to his enjoyment. Even though he went through his family's episode of divorce, it doesn't affect the violin at all, and Hajime certainly, slowly changes from the inside.

It's been a year since the divorce, and Akine too has her own episode of trauma, which incites Hajime to seek further clarification with Takeda-sensei, which he has seen a fair share of her struggles with the class over the typical bullying phase. And he hopes that Hajime will become her friend and teach her how to live again through the violin. Sitting by the riverside, the both of them speak about their own lives from then till now, and continue their practice on the violin, which other than Akine's somewhat improper posture, it gives a chance for Hajime to showcase his playing, without his dad's shadow behind him.

One thing's for sure: Hajime's trauma too, is finally starting to be overcome by the love of playing the violin once again.

Waiting for subs 😭😭

Edit: there we are!

The fact this isn't being streamed right now is killing me man! I find that the story progresses a bit quick for my taste, but they're also kind of easy steps to overcome right now, so I guess it's fine. There is also the teacher. The more we see, the more I see how his intentions are the most pure, but his methods are not. He's really forcing Aono.

In the end though, it turns out alright. Akine turns out to hold a lot more issues to heart than she let's on to have. She also seems to have (kind of) moved on from those issues too, or playing the violin is just a coping mechanism for her. We will see.

Aono's playing is just... My god, I actually love that so much. She totally wanted him to flex on her and he dunked her so hard lol. He is so incredibly good, that ending piece was divine I tell you!

Oh, I forgot to add! I totally got massive deja vu to the same sort of riverbank scene that played in Hibike! Euphonium, where Asuka played that Euphonium piece for Kumiko. Instantly I was transported to that scene again and needed to pause to recollect my thoughts. I'm unsure if that was their intentions, but I loved that scene, it played out beautifully.

Thought the ep was gonna end before she got to hear him. Glad it didn’t.
She made it possible for him to play again and he looked so happy. That last scene was beautiful.

really the episode that made my emotions mixed up, the reason why hajime was reluctant to play the violin anymore and that akine always went to the uks because he wanted to play the violin. added closing song with The canon rock song that accompanies it, makes me want to cry 😭😭😭. Usually I hear the guitar version of Canon rock songs but they brought it on the violin version

So happy that I found out that this is getting 24 episodes, certainly didn't expect that. Akine was fantastic this episode, first episode she may seem a bit rude but this episode showed that she is actually a very sweet girl who unfortunately got done dirty in the past by her classmates. She also helped the mc realise that he still loves the violin.

I like the theme, but the character dynamic is so irritating, it makes me seriously consider dropping this. But the music he played in the end was good. Really hope it gets better.

My goodness... I'm falling in love with this show already. In episode 2. LOL Such a beautiful show. I love both of them so much. Akine is adorable and Aono is such a nice kid. Plus, Takeda sensei is an awesome teacher. So... so... so good. I want this show to get so much attention and I hope this show gets better and better. Very good storyboard and direction. Loved it.

It's nice anime and whatsoever, but I can't. I just can't. Pachelbel's canon in D is something I just can't hear anymore... As a pro cellist player, I'm just bored with it. I just can't hear it anymore, as I have like 7 notes repeated over 50 times or even more... Everything, but not canon in D. Double Bach is great, I want to hear more in the next episodes!

Good episode, some of the visuals were pretty solid at the end, and while the setup was a bit generic with the sad childhood and Akine's rough past, I'm glad they got that out of the way quickly and Hajime finally played the violin again. Overcoming that hurdle means the story can progress a little faster, and I'm all for that.

So this is basically me now.
I didn't expect that this kind of thing had become fiction in Japan (or actually this fiction is based on a lot of people's stories), because this kind of stories are still part of usual life of some in the Southeast Asia ...

Brilliant episode. Canon by Pachelbel is one of them 'starter packs' for anyone who wants to enjoy classical music and they made use of it well for this episode using its proper violin composition. I can really not resist a lot of music-based animes specially it can be made well like this. Looking forward to this series and I am glad it will have 24 episodes in total.

I'm not gonna lie, I didn't like the 1st episode, but this one was simply beautiful, it's amazing how many things happened in just one episode and how they managed to redeem both the characters for me, in the end I even cried, really beautiful. Also, it's easy to make me cry, especially with Canon:

I really loved it, one of the strongest episodes of this season for me so far, it really touched me.

This episode was really touching! Aone finally understanding that he doesn't have to imitate his father sound, instead he has to find his own and have fun. I've loved that.
On the other hand, knowing Akine's backstory makes her more valuable and I reaaally want to know how this continues!

This series is just a masterclass and it sucks that it’s not got an official license because more people need to be on this. I am absolutely amazed with the job the seiyuus have done in these first episodes, particularly aono. Had no idea that was my boy Shinei and Kiyopon at first.

I really appreciate how grounded and natural everything feels in this. Especially aono apologising for his rash comment about ritsu not having friends earlier. That whole scene at the riverbank was so cathartic and pure. Can not wait for next week, in a season of great slice of life this’ll be near the top.

Also, I didn’t see a romance tag or anything on the anime/manga, but is there any type of ship here or does it stay platonic?

A real shame that this anime is so unpopular comparing to other ones this season. These first 2 episodes gave me such a good impression. The animation when MC plays violin are top level, even better than Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. I hope they keep the good work, and this anime gets a more fair score/recognition.

Ah I can now see why this is an award winning manga, that was fantastic.

I am always a sucker for some well done bullying stories. Bullying will always suck, Akine's really really strong to still be able to stay positive and handing out 1 or 2 deserved slaps.

I am glad Aono realized quickly, well quickly for us, that violin has nothing to do with what his father has done. He stopped playing the violin as an act of rebellion, but at the end of the day, it probably won't even mean much to his father. Well, can't wait for them to get to high school, though I am going to miss Takeda-sensei.

I remember reading the ending scene next to the lake in the manga, and when the anime was announced, this was probably the scene I was most excited about. I was excited about the arrangement that Hajime was going to play and to see him pick the violin back up and begin to learn to love it again being animated. One of the members in my Discord server shared a sheet music of the arrangement Hajime played and I'm so excited to try it out soon!

I honestly found it amazing it took him 1.5 episodes to even realize it was Canon in D. Every string musician knows that opening immediately off the first 2 chords. F#EDC#BABC#

First thing I thought of as well. Good to know that there's someone here who still thinks about that scene, it's almost seared into my brain.

I'm a little sad that it instantly made me compare the two shows, though. This scene being in only the 2nd episode and all, it just did not have the same impact as the Hibike! Euphonium scene did...

Still, enjoyed the beautiful art and music, aspects that are really carrying the show at the moment.

1. Disney + lock I think?
2. Animation and budget is not high. (You need to have Your Lies in April level of production to attract attention)
3. Not a well-known studio
4. Ep1 is rather mild.  (EP2 gets much better)

Dont get me wrong I like this anime a lot after ep2 ending.

It's not that I've been comparing the shows, I didn't even compare the two scenes (and in Ao no Orchestra, this scene had a massive impact, I was so blown away when he started playing). I have been thinking about Hibike! Euphonium while watching it though, since it's a similar-ish anime and I've finished it not long ago.

If every kid had a teacher like that in their lives school would become more enjoyable. I was going to say the main character seems immature but then I realised his age and now it makes sense. The girl is very mature for her age. The spectacular way he plays the violin reminds me of The Piano Forest.
