I think it’s both tbh. CXS probably died but Lu Guang went back and changed the timeline by saving him. Either that or he saw the future and changed it from his present. And he’s done it over and over again creating many parallel worlds which the main in the black coat mentions.

S3 might be about fixing and bringing all those parallels together.
