Chill first half, just Kita and Dia having a fun date. 2nd half though was weird in it's pacing and how it was presented. The amount of camera panning with the models was overdone, felt really odd to watch when you compare the camera scenes to the other 2 seasons. The last stretch felt like it was drawn out super long though and the camera pans between Kita's feet and face felt the same too. RIP Cheval getting 2nd. Overall, it was an okay episode, but the presentation of the race felt very weird/off with all the 3D models and camera panning, it felt super unnecessary and the race felt less involved compared to past races where they focus a good portion/half episode on it. https://twitter.com/uma_musu_anime/status/1729886709238866269

Kitasan and Dia has such a wholesome relationship in this show. It's charming and adorable. Truly, I like their relationship the most in this show. On the racing tracks, it's still an intense race among all the competitors as everyone aims to be the best.

The first part was nice seeing the girls traveling like that and having fun. Kita showed the she can plan during the race after all and did a really good performance. Now the question is what will happen during the next episodes , really looking forward to it.

Guess Kitasan isn't nervous around Diamond unlike last episode anymore. One morning, out of the blue, Kitasan invites Diamond to embark on a journey. It's a destination-less adventure where they decide their next stop through rock-paper-scissors. Along the way, they enjoy sightseeing, indulge in snacks, and revel in the aimless journey. Eventually, they reach a lighthouse where the sun sets over a crimson-dyed cape. There, Kitasan confesses a certain feeling to Diamond that he has been holding in his heart. This episode stands out as one of the season's highlights for me. The solid setup featuring Diamond and Kitasan enjoying life subtly hints at their close relationship before they openly share their ambitions. The race, in particular, captivated me—it was presented in a detailed manner with participants' thought processes voiced out, which, in my opinion, is one of the most effective ways to approach it. Now, with four episodes remaining, I'm curious about the direction the story will take. Given the depth of this episode, it almost felt like a next to last moment especially with the special ED, making me wonder how everything will wrap up in the upcoming weeks.

I've been listening to all the Uma Musume music in chronological/release order for a long while, and today I got to the Winning Live 01 album and realized that the "kachitai" - "I want to win" part in the OP is a reference to/a leitmotif from a part in GIRLS' LEGEND U (first song in the album), the song that plays when you first launch the game! (it's also the trailer for the game) This is really cool. So yeah, now 90% of music I listen to is Uma Musume music. Also the name of the episode is the same as the name of the Kitasan Black's SSR support card from the game! What brought this on lol? But their travels are really wholesome. I wonder why they can't use 3d models from the game instead of these ones. 16:42 Okay, this transition from 3d to 2d was clean. The race was really epic! The best one this season. Oh, the ED is "Ambitious world", the song that was released for the first anniversary of the game in 2022! Loved this episode too. I don't want this to end so much. (Don't really get why many other people are disliking this season, I guess it's because I don't follow Japanese horse racing closely, or maybe I'm in an Uma Musume honeymoon phase or something idk) And oh god the commemorative drawing for this episode is drawn by the mangaka of Made in Abyss. I mean, it's cute, but... lmao Btw there are leaks saying that there will be an Uma Musume movie! Not surprising honestly, given the huge popularity that this has in Japan. I've been imagining this happening for a long time. And unrelated to the episode but I recently decided to learn more about Equinox, irl Kitasan Black's son, and he's an absolute monster. Taking first places left and right in both Japan and Dubai. This at first made confident that he'll become the protagonist of S4/S5 in 4-5 years, but then I thought... How do you make a protagonist out of that lmao

The Spring Tennoushou will be another heated rivalry, but for now, a rest period between best friends Kitasan Black and Satono Diamond. It's just like Tokai Teio and Mejiro McQueen the last season, though more chillax and fun, with a declaration of war. And soon, the Spring Tennoushou arrives, with the best friends in strong rivalry, as well as past G1 winners Cheval Grand, Divinity and All Haiyu, it's just like Tokai Teio and Mejiro McQueen's race all over again, the fight for glory in one of the most contested races ever. As it draws to the finish line, Kitasan's spirit bursts and leaves everyone behind, her training paid off to win her 2nd consecutive Tennoushou, a new record and her 5th uncontested win. Cheval Grand sadly lost 2nd place, and Dia wil take her race further beyond with Kitasan. Good and impressive showing to the best friends (especially Kitasan), you've marked your day.

Yeah, in terms of Kitasan and Dia's character arcs, this episode feels pretty final. Dia has broken the Satono jinx, while Kitasan avenged her previous defeat, won for the second year running and set a record in the process, all while this episode reaffirmed their friendship and competitie spirit. Hell, we even ended with a unique ED over a black screen with credits, further enhancing that feel of finality. So, with 4 episodes left, that raises the question: what next? Or, rather, who next? Will the focus shift to that Cheval character for the final four episodes, or will we get some more one-off episodes for side characters like we got for Gold Ship earlier on?

Locations from this episode. yes! all of them are real. Goi Station. After that, they've ridden on an open-sided tourist train, Satoyama Torokko, of Kominato Railway to Umatate Station. The temple is Kasamori-ji The waterfall in this episode is Awamata Falls. Then, they were ridden on an Isumi Line passing through canola flower fields and sakura trees to Ohara Station, which is the terminal station of the Isumi Line. The final destination of the trip is Taito Lighthouse.

Also side not - Kitasan record stands till current day, moreover it's worldwide record for 3200m races (they are not really common, everything is shorter). But they said "she broke record that stood for 10 years" - which is technically true but in 2nd season Rice Shower had the record on the same race (IRL they are 23 years apart ofc) so at least 10 years had passed since season 2 :P Also maybe I'm mistaken but this references to the past are from real commercials? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd7cnvSY9u0

The race may have been the big moment of the episode, but personally I loved the first half of the episode the most when it was just Kitasan and Satono Diamond having fun, really loved all the moments shown throughout even without dialogue, instead we had a very nice ost which honestly didn’t completely fit but it was a damn good score, only thing they were missing was some fishing but horses and fishing don’t really match huh lol. And of course you had Kitasan’s declaration at the end which was a good moment to end on before the race, I think that gave it away that Kitasan would win tho lol. And the race itself was a good one, I was kinda rooting for the girl that was up front for a while but those types almost never win, and as she started losing momentum up the hill I knew it was over for her lol, same with Cheval who keeps getting the shaft, maybe we’ll see her have a Rice Shower style arc near the end of the show, that would be cool. And damn man, Kitasan isn’t out here just whooping ass, she’s also beating records lol, it makes me wonder if we’ll ever see Kitasan in a bad spot again after this but I do not know the story of the horse she’s based on so I can only wait and see. And that was a nice new ED for this episode, I don’t think it was really warranted for this one in particular but I did like the song.

I really loved how this episode handled the build-up for the Spring Tennoushou. Firstly, was Kitasan Black and Satono Diamond having a whole day together, travelling around parts of Japan without relying on mobile apps to guide them, which really captures the feeling of an unplanned and unexpected adventure, where every step of the way is a mystery. A good chunk of this part had no dialogue whatsoever, which made it all the more relaxing and heartwarming, as we see Kitasan and Diamond taking in the scenery, eating treats and both smiling wholeheartedly. Once the pair got to the lighthouse by the ocean, Kitasan finally showcased her resolve of wanting to beat Diamond at the Spring Tennoushou. Diamond responded in return about wanting to win the race as well as her dream of going overseas and winning in France. The race itself was exciting from start to finish. The CGI and camera angles was pretty good overall, with the odd bits here and there not looking as good as it could've been. Either way, Kitasan ran the perfect race, launching fast at the star, maintaining her speed throughout the race and pushing as hard as she could on the charge towards the finish line, winning the race and setting a new record in the process. Seeing the pair together, still smiling and promising to have the time of their lives with future races was really sweet. =) On another note, Chevel Grand ran a really good race herself, beating Diamond to 2nd place. You can tell that she wanted to win outright and was very frustrated at not being able to do so, but she' clearly improving, so I do hope she can get her victory later down the line. I will say that this episode had that "finale" feeling to it. Not sure what'll happen next, aside from Diamond's overseas goal, but here's hoping that we can get to see more exciting races with four episodes left to go.

BTW I think it was on purpose that authors made Kitasan a big Teio simp and Dia is a Mcqueen simp. While in general if you compare their running styles/physique it probably should be the opposite. Kitasan black was a massive horse, 540 kg at the end of her career, while usual weight is like 500~, Teio was 470~ kg. Mcqueen and Satono both there like 500~. So it general if you compare Kita to Dia they are like Mcqueen to Teio - 1st one is much bigger. Also about running styles. Teio never was that good at really long races, she skipped 3000 crown race cause of injury and lost 3200 race to mcqueen. While Kitasan was probably one of the greatest stayers ever, winning 3200 race twice, once with still present world record, and winning 3000m crown. Not only this but running style of Kita is really like Mcqueen, run really close to the front and overtake them at last turn with durability and stamina and then maintain the lead. While Teio/Dia/Duramente/Rice shower were more about running in the middle and then do a really massive speedup really close to the end. So in general if you compare styles/size Dia is close to Teio while Kita is close to Mcqueen. Btw Kitasan son Equinox for w/e reason is exactly like Teio, runs almost dead last and then speeds up and wins, also is much smaller than Kitasan but already is top earning japanese horse I think. Even in this race you can see that Kitasan didn't go for Teio strat, aka trying to speed up at the end, she took her lead at 3/4 of the race and kinda went from there, Mcqueen style.

@Vizvezdenec Yeah kitasan running style is kinda almost near similar to mcqueen when you think about it.But there are a bit of difference too imo. While mcqueen also use the overtake opponent at last turn with remaining stamina, she will mostly start doing long spurt and forcing other opponent to follow to the outer lane at the final corner, making it absolutely become stamina battle between her and the remaining umas that is catching up to her. Also,it can be said that mcqueen also have higher top speed making it easier for her to use this plan but she will pretty much lose if the opponent can keep up with her even with this strategy(eg rice shower). On the other hand, kitasan running style is more to the logical side where she mostly will take the inner lane during the final corner.Kitasan also prefer taking the lead but not fully broaden the lead against others so the pack will more likely follow the pace she set and it can be considered as the signature strategy of kitasan that the announcer sometimes said something like "it's Kitasan pace".

@yeetusdeletus160 sure, Kitasan was kinda unique. She had insane physique, being a stayer with 540 kg weight is smth that was more or less unheard of. But in general her running style was direct opposite of Teio while Dia had style much closer to Teio, this is my entire point.

I'm glad Kitasan decided to take Diamond on a trip into Japan and just have fun together. After Kitasan's defeat by her much more serious and focused rival (at that point), she still kept a close relationship with Diamond instead of feeling inferior or jealousy to the person that has been with her since childhood. Then, at one place with a clear view of the area below them, Kitasan takes the opportunity to confess her goal and challenge Diamond, when Diamond on the other hand replied with the same enthusiasm. Then came one of the better races of the franchise. Kitasan actually managed to break a record on top of defeating Diamond at last. Such a glow up, with many awesome details during the race.

After rediscovering her purpose, Kitasan was able to fully realize her potential and became stronger than ever. That last spurt was insane. |

Locations from this episode. yes! all of them are real.
Goi Station. After that, they've ridden on an open-sided tourist train, Satoyama Torokko, of Kominato Railway to Umatate Station. The temple is Kasamori-ji
The waterfall in this episode is Awamata Falls. Then, they were ridden on an Isumi Line passing through canola flower fields and sakura trees to Ohara Station, which is the terminal station of the Isumi Line. The final destination of the trip is Taito Lighthouse.

@AkeZZZ thanks for the irl location! Turns out they hadn't venture out really far considering they didn't take the Bullet Train (Chiba is literally next door to Tokyo) --- Love how they audience cheered for Kitasan as they did for Teioo (although this time it's the Spring Tennoushou where Makkuin reigned supreme!)

One of the best episodes of the entire series, felt special from the first frame with a chill first half and intense second, animation was really pretty too,was as good as Teio/Mcqueen, still for me nothing will top Suzuka's last race but this is close ! And man i expected a boring beach episode at first too xd

There we go, now here's the first actually good episode of season 3. And it's definite because we get the rolling credits on a black screen at the end. Ok but seriously, a great first half, quiet, simple, a good build-up to the race, which finally is one that felt like it held some weight to it, that felt like it mattered. It's almost as if they wanted to speed-run the first couple years of Kitasan's career to get to this one where she and Satano Diamond are racing head to head more often. Worth it? Barely, but yes. I hope the season closes out with at least half the strength of this episode.
