@P3ndora Fax My Brother! Spit Your Shit Indeed! I'm surprised with how well-drawn the guns in this are. The adaptation for Girls' Frontline was so ass in that aspect and guns were its main shtick. Can't wait for the rest of the show.

@fitsahats i have never played the game so do i need to know anything or i can watch it without any knowledge of the game?
@-Sleek- most gacha animes are fan service intended for the players, it would be nice to have context by playing the game before hand, but in some case such as arknights anime, which i have never played the game, the anime explains the basics and delivers the story amazingly that even non players can still enjoy watching. i can only hope they keep delivering this kind of consistency because everything seems to be above my expectations

BELIEVE IN SENSEIIII!!!πππππ The episode is starting phenomenal already. You can tell where the direction they are heading with that banger of an OP of the season. They top everything with fluid animation which I will be expecting more in the coming weeks. It's kinda funny because of the splendid cam angle shots as if the anime director of monogatari series is cooking in it lol. Of course, the transitions and changes of story flow will definitely be different but I can tell they are in the right track. When they showed "her" first at the beginning, it can confuse some viewer as much it made me too when I start watching the game story. I take no issue with that. The VAs are really raising the bar by doing an above and beyond job. Appreciate them and still waiting for my fav characters to appear. Those who have not played or know nothing of the game, they should be able to pick the first episode up if the "girls with guns + cute + wholesome and chill + great music" already is up in their alley. It is nothing too complex but certainly is out of this world logic. Guns shooting, bullets everywhere but none are fatally injured. That would basically made them scratch their heads sooo much. HAHAHHA

that was really boring. The characters felt super bland, exposition felt lazy and rushed, it felt like the relationship between the girls and the sensei guy was also quite rushed since there was literally no conflict or even so much as hesitation in his acceptance. Maybe the story works in game format but from what ive seen so far it is not playing out well in anime form. Atleast the animation was pretty solid although not super standout aside from the op

@NipahAllDay The problem isn't about explaining everything in the first episode. It's about showing a bunch of nonsensical content and expect the audience to have the patience to wait until it finally gets good. It's like Homer's snow plow ad (that it was a parody to perfume ads) it's totally nonsensical and at the end the target audience doesn't know what they are supposed to be buying. This is a terrible choice from a perspective of luring new audience to a stablished ip, and most new audiences would easily just watch anything else from the 30 or so new series airing this season. Heck the Train to the end of the world does have a rather similar setting and did it way better in it's premiere episode.

@Kimurah I feel like you're kinda over-analyzing and looking too deep on the first episode. I need to watch Train to the end of the world, but I'm pretty sure from looking bits of the show, they're completely different in terms of tone and what the setting will be. I think the issue is that you're expecting Blue Archive to be a post apocalyptic world. when it's not. (Yeah, I read the comment you posted earlier) Tho, I do blame the anime for skipping the prologue, which made you thought Kivotos was covered in desert. It's only in the Abydos district bc of harsh desertification

Epic OP, I love it! The animation was rather too weird and inconsistent, or more likely to be animated like that. Comparing the animation to the game was somewhat decent but it's not my ideal animation for the series, but it was still a nice animation indeed. Only Ani-One has it, thankfully.

EP 1 So. yeah. bloo archiv. I'll be honest i have no idea at all. all i know is there's a lot of girls Maybe even too many? who knows Game adaptations are uh. i mean surely there has to be some good ones right? shrug well im utterly confused for sure so anyway yes. introductions. we have five girls. and uh i have to say though i dont quite recognize anyone, maybe its just me. shiroko does sound vaguely familliar but eh i have to say that, as an anime only i have no idea aaand of course something happens like what daheck is the sensei supposed to do anyway a bit uh but what can i say I'll be honest i dunno. like is there supposed to be something or just the usual first ep weirdness syndrome Well they clearly spent all their budget on the op Honestly i still dont know the names of our five girls here so yeah uh And whatever happens next ep So basically after this entire episode I still dunno anything. Game syndrome for real maybe or what do I know EP 2 has a LOT to make up for It's quite clear to hear ogura yui in the op, though I was actually speculating but still. Not sure how I feel about this

| @Inexplicable no worries, and yeah I can see where you're coming from. I'll just say this now, if you're still expecting that then it will not happen, the only way to kill them is to destroy their halo, and it sure takes a damn lot of effort to do that. Neither three episode rule nor six will work because the story that is adapted as anime now is the Vol 1 of the game, which is arguably not the best part of the story. The parts you've heard such high praise are highly likely Vol 3 and Vol F, which I won't go as far to say they beat FGO in storytelling but they ARE indeed really good. The current Vol 1 that's adapted as anime will be just character/world introduction and some chill slice-of-life parts at the start that will get a bit serious near the end. And I doubt this season will get more than 12 episodes so they prolly won't have freedom to adapt more Vols either. So just keep your expectations low if you're expecting a story that 'beat' FGO.
Geez, that's why I wanted them to adapt straight up Vol 3 for anime. Each Vol has little to no connection until Vol F so if they want to adapt Vol 3, they can do it. They prolly chose Vol 1 to adapt as anime cuz the cast in it are the face of the game. But by adapting Vol 1, I KNEW there'll be anime-onlys like you who'll come here with wrong expectation. I dunno how many more people I need to inform this by repeating the same stuff smh. Please do me a favor by spreading this info if you see more anime-onlys like you.

@Csend it's already explained but their cat ears are just pure decoration, yes the story of the game is very good but it remains an adaptation of a mobile game managed by yostar, and we all know it, yostar are far from to be the best at adaptations. in fact the notes mean nothing, we will see later if the adaptation is successful or not

This is clearly anime made solely for fans. Episode 1 is really good to gatekeep itself. Blue Archive is already successful and the goal of IP is not expanding it but sustaining it. At least it being watchable is enough to satisfy fans. Literally just like priconne, it just happened to be backed by CyGames' connections to industry, compare to Nexon that couldn't even get at least B-tier animators to animate the entire anime. That's why even by revenue alone BA is always above Prionne, and the anime quality isn't about the budget but also connections. | @Coollldart Priccone wasn't non sensical at all. It was incredibly friendly towards the new audience. I watched the 2 seasons when they came out. The only overarching mystery was Yuuki's backstory, but everything else was pretty straightforward and easy to digest with zero knowledge about the game. Being backed by loyal fans doesn't do anything in the long run from a business perspective. You're just milking the same target audience and it won't make your franchise grow. Something I missed in my original post, it's the subs. They are absolutely garbo in a lot of places like that "I'll revenge" line. It feels like they used machine translation. What a way to give their loyal fans the middle finger (or probably their fans are really that dumb and love being given the middle finger). |

@Thai777 Yeah, I get it. People have their own opinions about why Vol 3 shouldn't be adapted first. As long as they're civil enough, I don't mind accepting their opinion and I have no intention to go "REEEEEEEEEE VoL 3 MUsT bE adaPTed FIrST!!!1!!1!" kind of attitude. I mean, the user @LotteWeiss pinged me about this too but I just read their opinion and didn't reply cuz they seem civil. But the above user's comment almost seemed like they're gaslighting me saying "You got the whole squad laughing bro" so I just asserted my dominance, that's all. (Not to mention the account seems like an alt.) This is not my first time discussing about this either. To clarify a bit more on my side, it's all fine and dandy they adapted Vol 1 for 1-cour anime season, cool. KYH also said he wants to adapt Vol 3 into a movie if the current anime is a success. But too bad I'm not such a positive thinker so I can't help but worried BA anime will end with adapting only Vol 1 half-heartedly and never heard again like Azur Lane anime. Then the anime-onlys will be all sarcastic like "Where is this amazing BA story its fanboys are praising to sky-high? lol" etc and I don't need that. And about this seemingly possible Vol 3 movie, you know how long is Vol 3 so it's nearly impossible to cram it all into one tiny movie. If they did, it'll be a disaster. It needs at least 2, or 3 at best for movie format. Or 2-cour for TV anime format. And I sure as hell don't think they have such budget. Not to mention the game is currently encountering some problems in JP like slow update schedules (only 1 episode for story update, 2-weeks rerun, etc) and translation issues, if you've heard. Not sure how much of these problems are related to anime but it's still suspicious that they started when anime starts to get in groove so it makes you doubt if devs are biting more than they can chew. With matters like these, hoping for another anime season reeks of copium tbh.

Well, that was certainly anime.
I don't think I've seen more bullets being fired and missed any target since probably B-Train's Noir. By the looks it feels like it doesn't even make an effort to introduce the audience into this post apocalyptic world and most likely it's entirely aimed towards the already hardcore fan of the original game.
I'll give it 2 more episodes, I'm sure the whole desert world, girls with guns and the need for a teacher that will magically improve these girls marksmanship will come in the long run. I'm just testing the waters to see if I can handle whatever BS they will throw in 2 more episodes to decide if I should watch it all the way.
This is the most superfluous show don't tell. They just showed that some girls are somehow as hard as titanium to some low caliber bullets, but it makes absolutely no sense outside cartoon/videogame logic. If they were wearing heavy bullet proof gear it would make some sense for those of us who don't eat bullshit on daily basis. Same with the girls wearing helmets, even a low caliber bullet would had been a fatal wound on any of them.

Good to see that they are going the route of show not tell when it comes to their halos or how they are resistant to bullets.

@Kimurah Episode 1 isn't going to give you the breakdown on immediately everything, first thing they did was tell you that the girls are bulletproof during the gunfight. This is a fictional world but even then the literal halos should at least hint that they are not normal girls, hell the ones with the helmets are revealed to not even be using them for safety reasons, but because they want to hide their faces. It isn't a desert world as told before, infact the anime literally calls it the desert district and specifically states that the district is suffering from desertification.
