I just finished 2nd season of this anime, it's pretty good. But one thing I don't like about this show is the comedy scenes. It happens too much, sometimes at the wrong time. There are many good scenes that are ruined by a lame joke. There are some similarities with this anime however Ping pong the animation does a lot better for me.
This is just my opinion, if you like those comedy enjoy it.

P/S: I know it's not a comedy anime, but why are there so many unnecessary comedy elements? that's what I'm talking about.

I had the same issue and I recommend reading the manga: quickly glossing over a small comedic panel is much better than an anime adaptation that makes every comedic scene overstay its welcome.

what comedy? It's not a comedy anime and has a lot more darker tones to it so I never noticed comedy once

The funniest scene in this entire show was when Kyouko climbed through his window just to beat his ass.

Sure, it's not a comedy anime, but what are these comments saying there is no comedy at all?

This show has a lot of light-hearted moments and humorous interactions. Maybe these don't "count" as comedy to some people?

I personally loved its gentle sense of humor, even though it didn't make me burst out laughing.

I totally understand if the comedy didn't work for you.

But I disagree that the comedy is "unnecessary." It's a drama with slice-of-life stylings, with a character who is in a truly dark place but learns to connect with people. And he starts smiling, even in sad and serious moments. Without the humor and occasional goofiness, the story just would not work very well.

I agree with you, I understand those comedic elements show that Kiriyama's life is getting brighter. I just don't like it when some jokes ruin serious scenes. Anyway, thank you for your comment.

Actually, what are some examples? It's been a while since I've watched this, but I can't remember a scene that was "ruined with jokes"...

I'm really sorry, I don't remember those scenes exactly, even though I just finished it Xd. It is scattered throughout the series. It might be a small detail, or a short joke with sfx but they bother me. Maybe it's because I went into it with quite a lot of expectations for a really serious story, although I still give it a 10 out of 10. I love the storytelling of chapter "the other house" in the first half of the last episode of 2nd ss, that's what I really want.

I really like the cats. They do not behave like real cats but they are perfect counterpoint to some of the stressful or darker parts of the anime. The youngest Kawamoto girl is cute/comic in the same way, but all of the sisters are. But they are light and they are not witty or gross, so not necessarily "funny" to everyone. But heck March can get Dark, it needs softness and light to sustain the journey. Or that is what I think. If you think it is 10 out 10 even if the comedy is not funny, well, it seems like it is not a problem. And maybe it is me, but the older one gets the cuteness of kids and pets gets funnier because it contrasts so much with the world.
