Here to ask before it gets old. To clarify, I’m not asking if this anime will be better than Solo Leveling. Rather, I’m wondering if fans of the novel/manwha believe that this will be comparable to Solo Leveling’s success and popularity. I haven’t read the manwha myself, but I saw the trailer on YouTube and thought that it looked interesting. I have no clue what it’s about other than what the trailer showed. So for people who did read it, thoughts?

Solo leveling manhwa is clearly way more famous, if you look at the numbers on mal.
But the orv anime still can be more successful depending on the production quality.
I would say, in an ideal world if orv gets a good adaptation, it should be 25 times more successful.
Imo comparing solo leveling to orv is as laughable a topic as comparing tokyo revengers to steins gate.

As someone who likes ORV more than Solo Leveling, i kinda doubt. Most people who don't know the novel would say "this is just cheap Solo Leveling" it doesn't bring anything new and well the introduction of orv is quite the power fantasy shit we all see every anime season. I'd like to get decent animation and to be as famous as Solo Leveling but just idk.

I love both but love ORV way more. If the animation is on par with Solo Leveling's or good enough, then maybe. But I'm just hoping atp.

You couldn't be any more accurate in your last statement. 😂👌🏾

Just comparing solo’ season 1 to the soon to be season 1 of orv. I’d say the story is a lot better and way more crazy than solo, so in that regard it will be extremely popular. The animation also has to be good, though I think the story alone can carry the popularity.
Just my thoughts.

Well it's getting a live action movie this summer which is sure to bring new fans but depending on its airing season it might be the hidden gem of that season, like Solo leveling. dandadan, and sakadays were
anticipated manwhas/Mangas with a nice following that's boosted when the anime comes out by the fact that there's nothing else interesting on

Man i hope it gets a good adaptation....just like solo leveling did....i honestly loved orv more than solo leveling but then Ragnarok came out and the story of solo leveling got insanely good......For me both are great and i would suggest that don't compare them...
If this gets a good adaptation with a good studio, then may be some day manwha's can get more recognition....🤞

Why are the ratings so low.....is it that bad.... because personally I am enjoying the show....it's fun... Action is good and all but I love the charecter interactions...

solo leveling is much more popular but when the anime releases (and if it has a good production) I can guarantee you all the heads will turn to ORV. The story and the characters are so much better.

bro I absolutely LOVE this manhwa, I haven't seen solo leveling yet so I don't know how the story is, but this manhwa is the best action manhwa on webtoons so I'm really excited to see the anime adaptation

It won't break the records and servers that Solo Leveling broke. It won't be up there number wise because the hype that SL carries is insane and is quite underestimated. You can go to any manhwa website and it will be among the top 10 even years after it is finished. But after a season or two, ORV's popularity will likely surpass SL mostly due to the story's quality. But regular anime viewers will only tune in if it maintains the same quality as SL in terms of animation and direction. Also Season 2 of SL is basically the second cour of its first season which is why it came back within nine months. It will adapt the first season of its manhwa which is like 110/179 chapters of the story. Even though the creators said that it will receive at least four or five seasons, I think it can be finished in like sixteen to twenty more episodes after this season. But compared to that ORV is insanely long, the mahwa adapted its first part last year in like 220 chapters, although each part has different lengths there still are four more left. So with more source material it's popularity will continue to increase although it won't be as explosive as the one SL has.

Look at how many members Solo Leveling has and how many memebers any other manhwa has. The difference is insane, Solo Leveling is like Dragon Ball of webtoons, the one that started it all: it would take years, maybe even a decade, for the Big 3 of this medium to show up. P.S. I guess, Tower of God is something like Astro Boy and ORV can be like Yu-Yu Hakusho.
Imagine normies saying: "Peaky Blinders is mid and overhyped. Just another typical crime drama show. Breaking Bad is much better.". Or: "Without action choreography no one would've cared about John Wick. Kingsman, on the other hand, is not like other action franchises!".

I read all of Solo Leveling and almost catching up with ORV. Objectively I have to say I really think ORV is better. The story is more complex, many more interesting round characters, we get much deeper into the MC’s feelings and emotions, which makes it easier to connect with him and with other characters. I found myself excited, surprised, touched and even laughing out loud countless times while reading ORV.
The problem is - that’s not what the crowd wants, I guess. I have no idea why Solo Leveling got so big as it lacks in so many basic things… I guess the majority of the people these days prefer good action and fast pacing over complexity, deep emotions and smart writing? I may sound like a boomer but as someone who grew on classical long running shounen anime, this is what I think.

At least in novel communauty there is no match, ORV is a lot more popular.

kinda afraid for orv even though it's peak but Solo leveling has action more whereas ORV as explanation and plot building due to which it is slow in the start and less action base due to introduction and character development whereas we see the rating of solo leveling goes up with action and declines with explanation not a lot but it does do. So I hope to God ORV and TBATE are booming too

Most people watch multiple shows at once. Sometimes people are in the mood for a mystery show, a horror show, a romance show and sometimes they are in the mood for action and hype. That’s just the way it is. I don’t think it’s that surprising that Solo Leveling is getting that popular. Just look at the damn team working on it, they are making miracles!

@nvxiis You're talking about different genres, but Solo Leveling and ORV are pretty much the same genre. The team working on the anime is making great animation I'm sure, but I was talking about the story and writing. It's my own opinion but I know I'm not the only one saying that ORV's story is much better than Solo Leveling, which has a pretty mid story imo. Actually there are so many better written anime that didn't get popular at all, and extremely good animation is not a good enough reason for me.

For me the writing is the most important in every story, be it manga or anime. action or romance. It's just that seeing the most popular shows lately makes me think I'm the minority, and most people prefer fast paced easy to follow action packed shows, unfortunately.
God, even the humor of ORV is better than SL!!

In conclusion it's not really surprising that SL is popular, and I won't be surprised if ORV won't have much success, because this is how things are, this is what people want and all I can do is shrug, shake my head and continue speaking up for the good stories out there.

I am PRAYING that ORV gets the adaptation it deserves; in terms of quality I think it far outranks Solo Leveling and it brings a lot of very interesting concepts to the genre. The story is great and the character dynamics are engaging, so I don’t think it should struggle with gaining attention from those outside its current fanbase. IF it gets a good adaptation, I think it has the potential to exceed Solo Leveling’s popularity.

I'm reading the Manhwa and I'm currently in Ch. 22, this Manhwa is great so far; I just hope the studio gives it the animation it deserves because it will need it if this plans to compete with Solo Leveling.

Solo Leveling so far has pretty darn good animation, it's top quality stuff in that aspect so I hope this anime adaptation keeps the quality up too.

I've read the manhwa for both Solo Leveling and ORV, so I'll give my two cents. Solo Leveling is the epitome of a power fantasy, in which the protagonist goes from being a worthless nobody to someone with the abilities akin to a god. The storyline is completely linear and predictable, the protagonist barely faces any huge obstacles after a couple of episodes, the worldbuilding is completely lackluster, and literally every single character aside from the protagonist is fodder-like and unmemorable. Solo Leveling is enjoyable if you don't care much about anything aside from amazing animation and fights. Also, the protagonist is basically a Gary Stu so I guess people love that he's not dumb and everything goes his way, which is satisfying to watch since you're supposed to root for the protagonist.

Now, as someone who's not that big of a fan of ORV either, I will say that it at least has a hell of a lot more good points compared to Solo Leveling. I don't really understand why so many people compare the two manhwa, aside from how both manhwa art styles look somewhat similar. The protagonist is also pretty damn OP, but at least he faces a lot of struggles and there's actual tension that something bad will happen to him or the other characters. The worldbuilding is good, and a lot of the side characters are likeable and memorable. It took me quite a few chapters to start warming up to the manhwa (75+ chapters) since I thought the storyline wasn't anything special until a certain point, but there are some twists later on that make it actually worth the read later on imo.

Anyways, if the quality of the anime is at least somewhat comparable to Solo Leveling, I could see it easily reaching at least Oshi no Ko's level of popularity....not sure about Solo Leveling, since there's not as much mindless fighting. But if the production quality is on the same level as the anime adaptation of literally any other manhwa but Solo Leveling...RIP. Considering Aniplex is one of its producers though, there's a very good chance it'll get a solid anime adaptation.
