The Digimon vs Pokémon topic came up a few days back. Only recently did i finish Digimon Adventure, and, honestly, it was a fun watch. Even though missed it as a kid, some say it was the epitome of their childhood. Back in the 90’s I did watch Pokémon, and, of course, it’s a good watch, a good game, a funky franchise.
I did some research on the matter, to try to understand this argument: Digimon VS. Pokemon

Although I always ponder, deem and value an anime in its singularity, when the topic arose, some iniquities popped up, as well, to versus the two series – what’s your opinion?
Are you a Pokémon, or Digimon fan? Or both.

Is it Digimon really a rip-off of Pokémon?
Which one has the better animation? Concept and narrative and characters.

Digimon is a one of a kind masterpiece, both are great and the comparison only exists only because of the name, they aren't really similar
Pokemon is a fantasy world based story with the main focus of the wonder of the world, notice how every introduction starts not with Ash but with the world and the Pokémon before introducing characters? That's because the whimsy and wonder is the focus, Ash is only the vehicle for it
Digimon is a character centric sci-fi with the focus of coming of age and character development, the world itself isn't a focus outside of the characters

Personally, I love BOTH Digi and Poké Monsters! While they do have their SIMILARITIES and DIFFERENCES, both are still great CHILDHOOD FRANCHISES!

One has a fire-breathing dragon as one of the protagonist's Pokémon, while the other protagonist has only one fire-breathing dinosaur! BOTH ARE JUST AS COOL AS ANY OTHER MONSTERS!

EDIT: Honestly, the Holy Trinity for me is Digimon, Pokémon, and Yugioh Duel Monsters. 🐦‍🔥

For me i enjoyed the digimon anime way more than pokemon. Of course the games were dominated by Pokemon however i enjoyed the digimon media, the first two seasons and the digimon movie with the absolute fire soundtrack still holds up to this day.

I prefer Digimon's anime, but I think that Pokémon's universe is better. ^^
In Digimon every "chosen" child has its own and only Digimon, In Pokémon everybody can catch every Pokémon they find. ✌️

Digimon the anime is more Super Sentai than Pokémon (even the localization was done by the Power Rangers company), and originated as Tamagotchi for boys. Pokémon doesn't have a monopoly on the monster friends concept by any means.

I think one thing Pokémon does better is being truer to the concept of befriending monsters. Digimon portrays most of the non-hero mons as mere monsters of the week (most egregiously, the Seadramon line which was the counterpart to the Greymons in the original VPet was purely villainous until the second series finally introduced a kid with Betamon). Meanwhile, Pokémon are not type casted into single personalities, like the normally adorable Togepi or Teddiursa being one-off episodic villains or Tyranitar, which is usually the go-to mon for villains, being a caring mother.

Also, despite Pokémon fans complaining about anthropomorphism creep (which is still more like Sonic or Donkey Kong than Digimon's Gundam style mons), Digimon is more disproportionately humanoid and way earlier. While this helped distinguish it from Pokémon, it also further detracts from the mons concept and makes it feel more like a standard shonen anime.

That being said, Digimon does go more interesting places while Pokémon is basically the consistent Sunday comics (e.g. Garfield) of anime. It was the one big children's anime series apart from Mega Man Battle Network that dealt with the implications of the early Internet taking over our lives. Our War Game was a clever take on this, while Ken from the second series was a good early portrayal of the terminally online asshole gamer (who's still pretty tame even compared to some users on this very forum). Also, apart from Saban dub Mimi, the female characters were more interesting than Pokémon at the time (though this aspect dropped off a cliff from Frontier onwards).
Thanks to @KIOSHI_17 for the wonderful present!

Personally, I prefer Digimon for the anime since the plot is better, while Pokémon for the games. My favorite Pokémon is Minun (hence my username), and I love DemiVeemon from Digimon too. 😊

It depends on the particular season, as Digimon is not as consistent as Pokemon.
