Hope season 2 will have a bigger budget so the anime can actually be scary, not just a comedy disguised as horror.

As a fan of the manga, i have to admit that season 1 of the anime had serious issues. They toned down the horror elements so much compared to the original work that it lost the terrifying atmosphere it once had, making most viewers feel neither scared nor disturbed. Many scenes in the anime were altered, drastically reducing the horror impact to an alarming degree. For example, the scene where Keitaro is dragged into the air by the fake Yayoi in the H Castle ruin, studio OLM turned Yayoi’s Jeff the Killer–like face from the manga into something more like a clown (Joker) in the anime. I still remember laughing in despair at that moment, realizing just how poor the production quality had become.

Horror in Manga is almost impossible to translate into animation, I've never seen it done well. Doesn't make me any less excited for this though, season one entertained me to no end. The tunnel ghost arc was absolutely amazing.

It's been the only horror anime that got me to feel dread, and tense. Hope for a s2 to come around soon.

I did feel scared a bit during that young kid ghost arc (the one with meatballs and stuff). And I found that part really creepy, so I think they did a good job there. It's very rare for horror manga to translate well to anime, so I hope they can do it more justice next season.

Anyway I am happy that we are getting a second season for this very underrated anime, I feel like I was watching this alone when it was airing.

I don’t like horror much at all (yes I get scared very easily). However, I remember really enjoying this show despite that. It’s probably nothing compared to the manga but it did genuinely scare and disturb me and there were many moments which had me on edge. I also liked the occasional bits of comedy.

I mean a lot of anime just can’t produce a manga’s quality that well. Some manga’s just have way too distinct art styles

1) the manga isn't that scary either, did you unironically look at Yayoi's face in the manga and got scared ? lmao

2) the anime adaptation is fine, it's just hard to to translate horror into another medium, you dumb clown

1) I never said that scene was scary, i said it reduced the horror intensity compared to the original, didn’t I? Got a reading comprehension problem or what, man?

2) “It’s just hard to translate horror into another medium”? Corpse Party, Shiki, Higurashi, and Mieruko chuckle. Scenes like the one with Yayoi in that picture appear plenty of times even in other shounen or isekai anime, and they pull it off way better than that one. OLM just did a lousy job, sweetheart. Oh, and there are lots of other scenes that are way more sloppily adapted compared to the manga, not just this one. If a horror anime isn’t even scary, then it’s already a failure, darling.

I didn’t really want to point out these issues in the first place, but aside from toning down the horror, they also messed up and got a lot of other things wrong compared to the original manga, that’s why i had to bring up at least one example. Among all the horror series I’ve watched, DG is honestly the most average one. Even Mieruko-chan, which is a horror-comedy, does a much better job at delivering scares and shock value than DG ever did, sweetheart. I’m talking about the anime, alright? When it comes to the manga, Mieruko-chan doesn’t even come close to DG.

the next arc should be scarier and creepier by the designs but you know anime limitations, manga details can't never be translated properly to animation so yeah we will get at least the same

1) then why does it matter if it doesn't look scary in the anime lol, you just debunked your own terrible argument

2) no way you unironically said that corpse party's bad adaptation is " scary " and miruko chan which is filled with fanservice lmao

what kind of drugs are you taking

I love Dark Gathering, and the story is good. But, yeah the animation for the first season was quite mid.
