The Jump Station stage for Osamu Akimoto's Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo (KochiKame) manga at Jump Festa 2026 announced a new anime on Saturday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured above).

Gallop, the animation studio behind the original television anime, is returning to produce the new anime, Shin Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the manga. New information regarding the anime is expected to be revealed in September 2026.

Akimoto serialized the police comedy manga in Weekly Shounen Jump from September 1976 to September 2016. Shueisha published the 201st and final volume in October 2021.

The original television anime adaptation by Gallop aired in 373 episodes from Summer 1996 to Fall 2004. The first side story movie, (Kameari Park Precinct), opened in December 1999, followed by a second movie, UFO Shuurai! Tornado Daisakusen!!, in December 2003.

The manga has also been adapted into multiple special episodes, with the latest The Final - Ryoutsu Kankichi Saigo no Hi, premiering in September 2016.

I've had the original on my PtW for over 3 years now, and likely this'll end up being my introduction to the series. I really do hope for the best.

I hope it's a remake and a proper adaptation of the manga this time, where it adapts the manga chapters in order. But because the manga is episodic, this might not be a remake and it'll just adapt chapters that have never been adapted before in the 1996 series.

I'm still not over the fact that the mangaka shamelessly added his family name on blondie

@Catalano bro Reiko isn't the only blonde in the series..
The hottest one Jodie's mother never appeared in the anime, only shown once in a wallet photo.

I spotted the signs perfectly that they were gonna remake or release a new series for the 50th anniversary. I picked up on the breadcrumb trail recently when Remow released old episodes on YouTube with subs.

Did the old anime have any problems or is this more of a nostalgic remake?

Oh hey, that's nice. I'll be sure to check it out. I've seen bits and pieces of the OG series and love it.

@RobertBobert Dunno about the whole thing but I do heard that the old anime contains some filler episodes and obviously it didn't adapt the whole thing since it ended decades before the manga does (Well the manga have like 2000 chapters in total so it's not surprising lol).

Interesting, somewhat surprising even. I hope they finish the subs for the original series. So far we have ep 1-50.

@MahiaErebeaNegi So, depending on the things, they might adapt the entire manga more faithfully to the original this time?

@RobertBobert Well, the original anime is already faithful as it was excluding the fillers and skipped some manga chapters, so I don't know how much they could improve for the remake.

It would be crazy if they're actually going to adapt whole 2000 chapters in more than 300 episodes (Which seems very unlikely in my eyes lol)

@MahiaErebeaNegi Is it possible that they'll do something like a soft reboot in a modern setting?
