The manga is soo good that I expected some good production but episode 1 looks rough.

Another anime adaptation that is so hype and failed to deliver.

Man.. i hope a season 2 goes to a more reputable studio like Doga kobo or Cloverworks, but i feel like we won't see one.

I figured this would be the reaction upon this dropping after seeing the hype behind it. It’s understandable to want a next level adaptation for your favorite manga, I definitely get that, but I thought Gekkou did a great job as of episode 1, they did what was needed and did it well imo.

I haven’t read the manga so obviously I’m new here but I don’t see the huge issue with the animation so far. It’s definitely not perfect but it’s not as bad as people claim imo.

I don't really see any visible issues with the animation, how they handle some scenes is a different matter tho.

Honestly just hoping the animation becomes better the longer it goes, or just a little improvement.

Just hoping it wouldn't get worse than this.

JC Staff would have been perfect, as we have seen from their OPM S3 adaption.

I think it’s because the manga is apparently really good, and so fans wanted an adaptation fitting for how good it is. I’m an anime only like you, and I don’t have any issues with it either, but yeah I think that’s why some folks aren’t super into the adaptation as of episode 1.

Exactly, The art of the manga is god tier, among the best, whereas the animation and art of the anime are just... Average, as a manga reader, that hurt

When the quality of the manga is so high that even the anime fails to capture it, it's given that the fans won't be happy with it. While the current animation is manageable, I'm also kinda disappointed myself😔

Rough is an exaggeration, it's okay. This isn't an anime with fights, so even mid animation should be fine. The other series Gekkou is working on this season looks much worse imo.

yeah, such a waste of an opportunity.

Also, not a good choice of the director as this is their only 2nd work as the lead Director.

Edit: In addition, I will be grateful if there's any manga reader who is willing to make a "cut content" thread should the anime continue to skip more manga contents. Y'know what, the cut contents were not even controversial!

@_einzi_ That’s fair, I just hope for you manga readers’ sake that Gekkou really does it justice going forward

The animation is alright to me, what really has me disappointed is the art style, the characters look quite different than what they do in the manga. Came thinking it was gonna be Tbate levels of ehh, but I surprisingly enjoyed the first episode much more than I thought I would.

The manga art is so good and I wished a more renown studio would pick this up, but alas.

On that note, episode 1 isn't as rough as I imagined it would be... Well apart from a couple of animation continuation errors, but it's good enough to be enjoyable.

Does animation even matter when comes to school romance anime? The only thing you should worry about here are the direction and the first episode look good enough so far

Not to mention this is nowhere near as bad as Plunderer or Negima in terms of art style comparisons lol

I dropped the manga at 40-ish chapters because I couldn't quite enjoy the harem tropes so I'm not exactly the target audience for this anime, but:

Going off of the PVs, I think the art style is serviceable; it doesn't look bad, at least. Though, I feel like the characters were much more expressive in the manga; this is fine for battle shōnen adaptations but is absolutely not fine for a school harem romance anime. What charm I saw in the manga was lost in adaptation...

I do think this is a medium issue, not an adaptation issue. The manga makes use of so much lighting to create its sense of volume; this simply can't translate over to anime, which results in every character looking kind of flat except for in stiller shots, when the producers can pay more attention to the lighting.

On a different note, I'm genuinely curious: why was the manga so acclaimed, anyways? It still felt like a power fantasy – which most harems are – except this time the male lead is just a gigachad instead of a self-insert pseudo-chad, and the female characters have some sort of motivations / personalities.

His other two shows weren't done by any crazy good studios or anything (Lidenfilms is decent) but this is the first work by Gekkou that isn't some generic isekai slop and they are treating it just like anything else they'd make.

Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again: Am I a joke to you?

Well, I would admit that this is like the second Gekkou anime I watched so far but the first episode alone is already so much better than the entirely of that Grandparent anime in terms of animation since it's almost non existence there (Almost near Gokushufudo level of PowerPoint presentation lol).

this kinda show it seems direction is the most important thing. while the animation could be way better i think they genuinely did a good job with the direction and its at least interesting to look at some of the shading is quite interesting.

Well at least it's not Tezuka Production, have you seen the other harem childhood romcom airing this season? These guys have blood on their hands, they should've never let them cook again after butchering 5toubun season 1 😭

It wasn't bad just serviceable. If the quality decreases later then complain is more valid.

THe studio and production doesn't matter if your series has enough value. You people are algorithm- and hypebeasts that you gonna repeat this dynamic and talking points every couple months
