'Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu.' Unveils Supporting Cast, Main Promo [Update 1/9]

The official website for the television anime adaptation of Yuushi Ukai's Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu. (Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table) light novel revealed supporting cast and the main promotional video on Thursday. The anime premiered with a 60-minute special on Wednesday at 11:00 p.m. on Tokyo MX, followed by ABC TV and WOWOW. Episode two onward, it will air at 11:30 p.m. and stream on Netflix and other platforms in Japan.

Hakushi: Shizuka Itou (Ansatsu Kyoushitsu)
Azuma: Haruka Oribe (Tensei Akujo no Kuro Rekishi)
Mishiro: Rio Tsuchiya (Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku)
Airi: Yume Miyamoto (Blue Period)
Moegi: Natsuko Abe (Momentary Lily)

Souta Ueno (Gimai Seikatsu) is helming the anime at Studio Deen. Rintarou Ikeda (Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia) is handling the series composition. Eri Osada (Sekai Saikou no Ansatsusha, Isekai Kizoku ni Tensei suru) is designing the characters, while Junichi Matsumoto (Mahoutsukai no Yome) is composing the music.

Ukai began penning the action suspense light novel under the MF Bunko J imprint with illustrations by Necometal in November 2022. Kadokawa published the eighth volume in February 2025, with the ninth volume planned for a January 23 release.

Monthly Comp Ace began serializing a manga adaptation by Banzai Kotobuki Daienkai in April 2023. Kadokawa released the fourth volume in September 2025.

Yen Press licensed the light novel in English in July 2023 and released the fourth volume in August 2025. The fifth volume is set to be released on February 10.

I haven't read the LN, nor have I actually watched the anime, but:

Are they really going to have no recurring characters aside from Yuki, just kill everyone else off every episode, and introduce more supporting characters immediately afterwards? This would be really funny.

@detarameMAL From what I've read, the MC keeps joining new death games, so it makes sense they always have new characters. Sometimes she helps others survive but will always prioritise herself. So I think there will be a good mix of people living and dying. So reduces the predictability a little there.
