That's an opinion I have ever since season 1.
What even is the point of them being divided into tier if pretty much every relevant one faced in the entire anime is special grade (And special grades vary too much in power level either way)?
I do care about stuff like that to the point of watching anime that specializes in it: Hell Mode: Yarikomizuki no Gamer wa Hai Settei no Isekai de Musou suru has a level of granularity of starting with H-rank monsters (A rat-sized grasshoper) to the point that something like a sabertooth tiger is an E-Rank monster.
Even something closer to JJK would be Tensei shitara Dragon no Tamago datta, which starts it's classification with F rank, but even monsters classified as D+ are very strong and can use magic.

Granted, currently curses became an afterthought since the story is almost fully focusing on curse-users instead, so what was even the point of introducing them in the first place?

technically in the world of jjk the grades are super useful to the sorceres (their job is to kill courses and not having to fight the ones that are too strong to them) but to us viewers of the show yeah, they are pretty useless after the season 1

From what I heard gege wanted to do a more horror focus thing but he did a pivot so the curses were forgotten

Ya, this is still one of my biggest complain and just a decent downside to this series but at least we get cool curse users like Hakari and others in the future but yeh they pretty much almost went down the drain in importance so far but at least not entirely.

The much bigger question is why even name your characters when they have almost same sounding names?

Rika - Riko
Gojo - Jogo - Todo
Hanami - Nanami
Yuji - Yuki - Yuta - Yuko

And the biggest fucking question ever why do two characters have the same Kamo Noritoshi?

the new Kamo Noritoshi was named after the clan head ancestor Kamo Noritoshi (deemed as the "most evil" sorcerer) bcz he inherited the blood manipulation technique that is believed to bring their clan to redeem the name of Kamo Noritoshi and will become the new Kamo head. He was only evil bc Kenjaku fcked with his body

None.
It’s basically sorcerer vs. sorcerer, with a narrator who likes glazing Gojo at this point

I never denied it, as I thought that would be the situation and I believe I was fair in stating that they sound similar.

The grading system is relevant, we are just watching the most consequential characters and actions in this world.

You could make the same point about lower tiers and rank and file in every single other shonen.

Like Frieren, the first time we discuss the tiers of mages is to apply for the top tier. You could make the same argument about the lower ranked mages.

Or every not captain soul reaper in bleach. Or most naruto characters.

I don't quite understand what your problem is... it's normal for them to divide sorcerers and curse into ranks so they can then assign them appropriate missions. The higher the sorcerer's level, the higher the salary and other benefits. It's normal for them to be grouped together in some way to ensure administrative discipline and order. A sorcerer's work is work, and some structure must be maintained. The fact that most are unlucky and find themselves in a time of overwhelmingly difficult opponents is a different story. Remember that class 1 sorcerers can fight against special classes curse. Their assignments are not exactly classified in the same way as curses. In the anime we had a lot of curses of different classes and fights with them, so I don't really know what the problem is here.

You might as well nitpick any other anime that has rank divisions. Why does Naruto have genin, chunin, etc., divisions when young ninjas fight kage-level ninjas?
Why do they have ranks in Kimetsu when Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke are theoretically low-ranked and then they fight the Upper and lower moons?
In series where we have such opponents and some groups fighting them, there must be some division on both sides, because otherwise everything would be unnecessarily chaotic from the very beginning.

I think Gege was more interested in using curses to add to the story thematically than they were in using them for the type of world building that I think you are looking for. It always feels to me that Gege does only the required amount of world building to try and make the story make sense because they are more interested in the thematic elements and character stuff. Even though a lot of readers end up not really appreciating that aspect of Jjk.
Gege excels at subtext which is why one of the weakest elements of the manga is the over explaination of world building elements and exposition, that is not their strength as a writer but this is shonen so they kinda have to have it there.

Yo, you remember those sorcerers that exorcized the grade 3 curse from that granny's house? No? Nor do I, since it was never on screen. That's the point. They only gave screen time to the curses that are strong and impactful enough for the plot. Not a curse that could be wiped out in a single second. So you see where I'm going with this, right? And yea comparing JJK to the 2 most garbage animes of the season is a crime that you should be executed for, ngl.

@Fayez0001 It's worth adding that it's not that we haven't seen weaker curses in the anime many times, because we have. For example, in the first season, before Nobara, Megumi, and Yuji fought against Eso and Kechizu, Nobara at the beginning of the series, where she saved a boy, or in the movie, where Toge exploded those little fish, or Maki slice that creepy curses. The point is that in the anime, they are so weak that you defeat them in a few moves, and that's it, so it's obvious that stronger curses, those with minds of their own, those that can speak, and are developed, get more screen time.

I don't think you understand.
My issue isn't that the series had a powercreep issue in the later arcs.
My issue is that everything below special rank is already rendered moot as early as the correctional facility arc.

That means we wasted an entire system in things we won't use, while we lack a system for things we ACTUALLY use.

Responding to the comparisons to Frieren: I don't understand your argument since we DO see lower-ranked mages. The whole point of the mage-exam arc was seeing the different levels of mages, and since "being a mage" isn't a linear thing, even lower-ranked ones could still prove useful and did things on-screen.

In fact, it was the fact that they only fight special grades that made half the cast of Jujutsu Kaisen be useless.

well curses were never the biggest deal since no curse in a million year was strong as gojo or any special grade sorcerer tbh, plus watching people fight each other is cool than curses who make wired sounds.

jjk is not a good anime regarding the story and lets be honest the carecters aswell only the hype of gojo and sakuna curried the manga and now strong version of yiji is carrying jjk madulo
people just like strong people when other are penuts compare to them its kinda like solo leveling main carecter formula

World building is not useless just cause some of the information introduced is not the focus of the story as well as it serves as character motivation and background.

Shonen can have great world building. Just don't expect it...even most of the better ones only makes sense in a microcosm. But hey, good plot in a barren world might still be interesting, but a boring story in an vast world is an encyclopedia.

That being said, I don't think JJK is well-written and all it has right now is eye candy.
