Another good episode. A pretty important death, yet again understated in typical LotGH fashion. No cliche, no over the topness, just blunt and sudden. I am of course talking about the death of Reinhard's father. Much emotion in this episode, highlighting the fact that his father was not evil, but simply weak.

Arrgh, I couldn't bear it when Anne-Rose was lead away to attend opera with the old pervert! Damn it, I want to kick the Kaiser in the face!

About Sebastian's death and how it was presented, I totally agree with Beatnik.

Reinhard and Kircheis playing detective feels kinda silly and out of place. The colour-blind suspect is a huge cliché but, fortunately, it seems he is not the culprit. Personally, I suspect the principal since the beginning, and I'm about to find out if I was right. :)

Well, colorblindness doesn't work that way (at least not for me, my father or anyone else I know who has it), but still the episode was great. It seems like even Reinhards hate for his father wasn't of personal nature, but because he was part of the system.
I probably regret this post by now.

I'm liking this storyline because, as I said before, it highlights the flaws in the Empire's system. I actually thought that the idea of the color blind guy committing the crimes because people who have "defects" are ostracized would have been interesting. But, I guess that isn't the route the story is going.

The scene with Anerose was powerful in an all to understated way.

I never even thought about his father before.
How powerless and hopeless it would have been for him.
Say no the Kaiser? Anerose would probably have been taken away, with both him and Reinhard being executed.

I think it's tragic that the relationship between Kircheis and Annerrose didn't have a chance to develop. I wonder what that would have been like...

Anyhow, looks like this case is a bit more complicated than one kid killing the others. I guess we'll see how deep this rabbit hole goes.

Maybe it is the 3rd place dude or multiple people committing these murders, to point the blame at the first place dude. That way getting rid of the top seats . . .

LotGH really hits me with it's understated scenes. The sudden death of their father, Annerose being immediately taken away as if it is insignificant that her father died... To Reinhard that may be the case, but Annerose still probably saw him as a father. Like Sebastian said himself, he couldn't have refused the Kaiser - they'd all be executed.

Personally, I'm inclined to believe that Sebastian turned down the offer to become baron, in some form of rebellion towards the Kaiser. Of course we'll never know, but I do think he was just an ordinary man, unlike Reinhard. Because he's so moral, grand, and ambitious, Reinhard doesn't really understand how the ordinary and insignificant people struggle compared to himself, and cannot relate. Probably why he has so few friends (but many subordinates).

Anyways, I knew he was colorblind! But I doubt he murdered his friend. Although his speech had no heart, I think he feels guilt because he knows who killed his friend. And this second murder is possibly revenge?? Though that would mean he had a sudden burst of emotion, of which I'm skeptical. Well in the end I'm certain it's to do with the blackmarket rumor (school supplies being sold off).

This is so absolutely spot on.

I think it was nice how there was some ambiguity over Reinhard's dad instead of him being portrayed as undoubtedly evil or too weak.

That clue is probably a red herring and I'd like to think that the real murderer is the principal or some other high ranking person who was conducting black market deals as mentioned in the beginning.
"I like young-girl sexual creations, Lolicon is just one hobby of my many hobbies," he says.
I ask what his wife, standing nearby, thinks of his "hobby".
"She probably thinks no problem," he replies. "Because she loves young boys sexually interacting with each other."

More exciting than the last episode.

"Yo, your daddy died, but the kaiser ants the take you to the opera", that's cold

Now the "not the yellow team" phrase makes sense. Excellent writing, great plot twist.

I can't believe the colourblindness hint from before was not perceived by the audience before. o_O The whole scene pinpointed it.

I don't get why "being colourblind" would be a motive to murder his classmates. The only way I could see that as the reason is the colourblind student hates the military school's genetic prejudice, and unsolved murders would make the school look bad. But killing people just to tarnish the school's reputation is ridiculous.

Something was obviously odd when Moritz wasn't able to identify the color of the one team as red. So that's the reason for it.

And you get to symphatize with Reinhard's hatred towards the Empire even more while watching this OVA.
