| Zaine stops for a moment. "If I'm going to go with you, I need to go grab something from the shop quick." Zaine turns and runs in the opposite direction. "I'll meet you at the town gates!" he yells as he runs away. Alexi turns to Brink. "Do you think we should ask Sparrow about him? He did say Sparrow found him. Maybe he'll give us a clue." |
| "Lets walk him there and maybe ask how much he remembers. Then while he get's his things we can talk to Sparrow." He nods and turns around. |
| "Yeah." Alexi turns and heads back to the blacksmith shop. "Ooo I can't wait to see the look on Cyn's face when he sees what we're bringing him! Remind me to get my gun out then. I want to catch the moment so I can keep it forever and replay it for him someday." She laughs at the thought. |
| "Erm, right." He continues walking back towards the shop with her. (Sorry when I got home Friday I got really sick :/) |
| (It's alright hun. I thought something was up. You usually don't ditch unless something's up. No worries. I hope you feel better now!) They reach the shop in a few minutes. Sparrow is outside leaning against the wall by the door as the sound of metal hitting metal and crashes sound throughout the shop. Sparrow looks up when they draw near. "Oy! What are you two doing back here?" Alexi runs over to him. "We came to ask you some questions." "Was my report that bad?" he says jokingly. Alexi giggles. "No. We didn't come back to ask you about the report." |
| (Not really but thanks) "What do you know about Zaine and his exploitation to "aliens?"" He says bluntly |
| Sparrow stares at him a moment. "What?" Alexi rolls her eyes at Brink's blunt question. "Zaine told us you found him. We wanted to ask you about him." "What's the sudden interest in the kid?" |
| Brink nods though he liked his interpretation better. He always liked to ask his questions short and simple and get his answers back the same. "If you please." he says in a non-entreating tone. |
| Alexi continues. "Zaine said he was found by you when you came to this planet. He also said he was from Kavarda, which we all know was destroyed over a century ago. We wanted to know if you knew anything about him." Sparrow scratches his head, then runs a hand through his beard. "Well I did find him. I had business out in the slums. I kept hearing some rumors about a strange boy down there, so I stuck around. Caught him trying to steal from an old beggar woman. He seemed different; distant I guess is the word. Started following me around then. I got attached." He looks to Brink. "I don't know anything about any 'alien exposure' or whatever." |
| Brink nods and looks towards Alexi. (Stealing from a beggar, he should change his motives. After all if he has been stealing for this long he must be horrible. He barely got a scrap off of us.) He stands still pondering this. |
| The noises coming from the shop stopped. Zaine walks out of the door. "Whoa! What are you guys doing here? I thought--" "We wanted to come and make sure it was okay with Sparrow." Alexi interupts. "We are spiriting away your apprentice afterall." "Did you find everything you needed Zaine?" Sparrow asks. "Yeah." he says breathlessly. "I just had to grab this." He holds up an amulet in the shape of a six-point star. The star is raised on a silver disk, with the star itself being a dark blue. In the center of the star is a perfect lighter blue circle. "Great." Sparrow says. "Now get out of here before I ring your neck for messing up my shop!" |
| Brink stares long and hard at the amulet he is holding. He shakes off his gaze and looks to Zaine. "Alright then, have you said your goodbyes? It's getting late we should be heading out." |
| "Yeah." Zaine says. "There's really only one guy I need to say goodbye to anyway." Sparrow pulls him into a massive bear hug. "Be good, kid." Sparrow says as he sets him down. He ruffles his hair. "Yeah." Zaine turns to them. "Alright let's go!" |
| Brink avoids the loving moment. "Farewell Sparrow." he turns to walk away |
| The group manages to get to the city gates before Zaine starts to pester the two with questions, all of which go unanswered. Mostly because he's going from one question to the other with the speed of an Archtaician racer. They manage to get halfway to their camp before Alexi finally snaps. "Alright!" She says. "Enough with the questions! If you really wanted answers, you'd wait like a good boy until we got to the camp. We're almost there. Gods! Now shut up." Zaine just looks down at the ground in dismay. "Okay. I can wait..." |
| Brink sighs. "Don't mind the Captain here, she is still on edge because she thinks you tried to cop a feel earlier." He smirks. "However, she is right we should wait for the answers as excited as you are." |
| Alexi makes a mental note to have Brink reprimanded when they return to the camp for his comment but says nothing. Zaine looks a bit confused, but then looks down at the ground again, realizing there will be no answers to his questions at the moment. |
| Brink looks ahead and sighs. (Children.) |
| After 15 minutes of walking, the company can see a small amount of smoke rising in the distance. Alexi looks up at the tiny trail the smoke leaves in the sky. (Great. I can't wait to see what they did now.) Zaine follows her gaze. "Is that coming from your camp?" he asks warily. She looked at him and shrugged. "We'll find out when we get there, won't we?" (It undoubtedly is. Can't wait to see what they set on fire this time.) |
| Brink looks slightly shocked at the smoke. "We better hurry, then." (I bet it was that stupid blonde, Cyn.) |
| Alexi takes off in the direction of the camp. She's surprisingly agile. Zaine attempts to keep up, but running isn't his strong suit. The camp has been completely removed, except for the fire pit and kitchen area. The chef stands in the middle roasting, what appears to be a deer. The animal has the build of a deer, yet its head resembles that of a long-faced cat with large spiral antlers protruding from its head. The deer, which is at least the size of a small house, is being slowly spun on, what could quite possibly be the biggest spit Alexi has ever seen. She comes to a stop, stunned. Zaine stops a little in front of her a moment later. "Whoa! I can't believe they managed to get one of these!" |
| Brink catches up and views this event. "What is this?" he stares at the being. (Ugly little think isn't it. At least it's out of it's misery now.) |
| Cyn walked over then. "Well, hiyas captain!" He stopped when he saw Zaine. "What the heck is all of this?" Alexi motions to the deer. "Oh, that fella?" Cyn leans up against the spit. "Turstle shot him after he stumbled into the camp. Actually, he destroyed almost everything that was down here. Flung it all over the mountains side. Ate some of it." Alexi started to say something but Cyn cut her off. "Don't worry. We managed to save all of the important stuff. Besides now we have dinner!" Zaine comes over then. "I can't believe you managed to kill a Fornost that easily!" Cyn looks over to Zaine, then back to Alexi and Brink giving them a questioning look. |
| Brink almost turns green with disgust. (What is this fuckery?) "Ekk.." |
| (What is this fuckery!? LOL! You have no idea how hard I laughed when I read that line. Aw man. You're awesome for putting that!) "Who's that guy, and why's he here?" Cyn asks. "Long story short, his name is Zaine Maddox. He's interesting, and therefore, will be coming with us." Alexi answers matter-of-factually. Cyn doesn't say more, but clearly wants to. He turns his attention to Brink. He stifles a laugh. "You look a bit sick there, Brink." Cyn walks over to him. "Don't worry. The beastie tastes better than he looks." He laughs now, ignoring the disgusted look Alexi gives him. Zaine has efficiently mingled with the rest of the crew already, and has begun telling them of various ways to properly cook and eat a Fornost in detail. He also tells them of ways to kill one using different weapons. As he talks, it becomes increasing;y apparent that he has done these things before. |
| (Oh I love your grammar ;y) Brink looks at him fiercely. "Keep it up and you will be getting the effect of the "beastie" all over yourself." He scoffs and turns to see Zaine mingling. (He may prove to be useful after all.) |
| (Shut up. mer.) Cyn gives Brink a stern look, but says nothing. Zaine wanders over then. "So, When are we going to leave?" "As soon as you shut up and help the rest of the crew salvage whats left of the equipment," Alexi says, "and take whatever you want off of that...thing" "Fornost." Zaine corrects. "Whatever." Alexi walks off with Cyn in tow, and starts giving orders to the crew. Zaine stays back. "How long have you been a part of the crew here...uh...Brink was it?" Zaine asks. |
| Brink stops for a moment and turns to him. "AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...........ehm....eh...ha...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!" he stops laughing after a long while. "Ahem, I am merely an officer. I am not of this crew or any crew." |
| Zaine jumped when he started to laugh, not expecting it, then just stared at him. "Oh." He is still taken aback by Brink's laughter. "Then why are you here?" |
| Brink sighs. "It's my job as an operative of Kazarda to follow a crew for their yearly test. Also we have a secret "mission" per say that is going on here." |
| At the word 'secret' Zaine seemed to grow more enthusiastic. "A secret huh?" He thinks fora moment. "So, you are a kind of tester? What are they trying to pass? And what's the secret?" |
| "What did we say about questions?" he raises an eyebrow and tries not to pop a vain. |
| "C'mon!" He pleads, "I want to know. These facts could save my life one day!" He pauses. "If you answer my questions, I'll leave you alone." |
| "Like I haven't heard that one before." He rolls his eyes and walks away. |
| "Aw c'mon man!" Zaine says. "I don't know anything about what's out there. The least you could do is tell me what kind of a guy I'm going to be hanging around with." He stops defiantly in front of Brink. "I don't even know what this thiing does!" He holds up Alexi's CIDU (Cybernetic Intelligence and Database Unit). |
| Brink stops dead in his tracks yet again. "PUT...THAT...DOWN." He looks almost afraid. "I am okay to be around that's all you need to know. Just put it down.....G-GENTLY." |
| A wicked smile psreads across Zaine's face. "What? You think I'm gonna drop this or something?" He flutters the CIDU through the air around him. "No way. This is my ticket to the answers I want. Tell me what you're really doing here, and what the crew and captain here are trying to pass." |
| "It is a test. An inspection. Like for an air craft. Now give me the CIDU." Brink doesn't act frantic but on the inside he is. |
| "So you're inspecting the crew and the ship?" Zaine ponders this for a moment. "What happens if they fail the test?" He continues to toss the CIDU around as if it were a mere toy, completely oblivous to the endless amounts of information it contains. |
| Brinks eyes follow the CIDU intently. "They get fired. Obviously." He tries acting as calm as possible taking deep breathes. |
| "I see." Zaine pauses in his tossing to think. "What does this thing do? You seem to want it back so badly even though it's not yours in the first place. What does it do?" He examines the CIDU in a manner so that he may still watch Brink. "It must be important..." He taps at it here and there, though it does not respond. |
| "It's like a mini super computer. It holds thousands of informational files." He sighs knowing he lost the battle. (How did he finally get his hands on it?) |
| "Oh!" Zaine turns it over in his hands. "How does it work? There are no buttons or--" He stops. As he turned it over, he noticed the creases on the box. "It holds information..." (Does it contain anything on...?) |
| Brink walks closer to him. "What are you doing...?" his nerves prepare to quake yet again. |
| Zaine opens the box. A plethera of screens come up as the box opens, each displaying different information, though most concern their current location. Zaine looks breathlessly at the screens. "Whoa..." He touches a few of the screens. "This is Phanaphos..." He looks on in awe, as he reads about the planet. |
| Brink stands over him carefully. "Yes. We have been studying the planet." |
| Zaine takes a few steps away from him. "Why?" He touches another screen and it brings another planet up. Zaine touches four more, and four more planets come up. "What...? You've been studying all these planets? Why? For what purpose?" His voice has taken on a guarded tone. |
| "We are gaining back the information we lost when Kavarda "died". Now we must feed our data into the CIDU's and then into the main source of information. All in order to better understand the universe." He stops realizing he lifted his head towards the stars while talking. |
| Zaine reaches up and takes off his pendant. "If only..." He taps a few screens closed, then taps on another. He types on the keyboard a moment, then stands back as the CIDU searches. "Please." The word is barely audible. |
| Brink for some reason lets Zaine hold the CIDU. Maybe he felt guilt or something but I knew that Zaine needed it for a while. "Hmm." He watches the CIDU search as well. |
